They OCR the entire screen and store it in plaintext?! There is no way... I know it's Microsoft we're talking about, but are they really this stupid?

simple ,
@simple@lemm.ee avatar

This truly says a lot about our society. 4x4s and jeeps never existed before OP found out they did. Truly sad. Car bad.

simple ,
@simple@lemm.ee avatar

For the record this was made 8 years ago and is pretty out of date.

simple ,
@simple@lemm.ee avatar

Be aware OP that local LLMs are quite a bit worse than what's available online. Llama 3 is (probably?) the best one available now and even that has a habit of being very stupid sometimes compared to claude or chatgpt.

Step 1: Reformat your Android phone

Step 2: Turn on ultra power saving mode (this disables everything in the system except a few apps such as phone and messaging)

Step 3: Never connect to the internet

Et voila. You have a dumb phone.

@simple@lemm.ee avatar

You will definitely notice better battery life as an end user.

It has more to do with manufacturers than Microsoft. Nobody was making high performance ARM chips, so there was never a market for windows on ARM until now

Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time... I remember when hold forward line rider maps were all the rage on early youtube.

Hello GPT-4o (openai.com)

GPT-4o (“o” for “omni”) is a step towards much more natural human-computer interaction—it accepts as input any combination of text, audio, and image and generates any combination of text, audio, and image outputs. It can respond to audio inputs in as little as 232 milliseconds, with an average of 320 milliseconds,...

I hate everything about the AI trying to be funny and faking laughter. Insanely creepy.

Other than that, seems like a good step forward from GPT-4. Cheaper API will make a lot of people happy.

It's just really difficult and expensive to make proper games for VR, and the market isn't quite there for it to be worth it. Lots of people still say Half Life Alyx is the only "full" VR game made by a popular company while a lot of PSVR titles felt like tech demos.

What happened to sub $1000 phones?

Brother you are the one who bought the most expensive phone on the market. You realize that you're reinforcing the market you don't like, right? Your purchase sends a message to Apple that "Yes, we want crazy expensive phones because people keep buying them"

simple ,
@simple@lemm.ee avatar

Wow, how disappointing. One of the quotes say they got less than half as much performance as was promised, I'm hoping it's a driver issue and not just outright scam marketing.

simple ,
@simple@lemm.ee avatar

It was already confirmed to be actually Nintendo earlier

@simple@lemm.ee avatar

Yeah the rates of new stickers should be a bit less but it's way better than what it used to be, at least you're not losing on ante 2 constantly due to bad rng

I've been using it via the LibRedirect extension for a while now and it's great. Feels a lot more reliable than LibReddit ever was.

A group of Korean researchers, known for its controversial claim of creating the room-temperature superconductor LK-99, has newly unveiled its discovery of a new superconductor.

These people AGAIN? I expected them to drop off the face of the earth when it turns out they had no idea what they were talking about and riled up the entire scientific community over nothing.

simple ,
@simple@lemm.ee avatar

So you think they should just make no money because you're mildly inconvenienced?

simple ,
@simple@lemm.ee avatar

You laugh but there's actually a very big and active piracy community on Telegram sharing videos

    Least insane apple fanboy

    If you'd read the article it's about Apple intentionally imposing restrictions that nobody else does, like not allowing getting apps out of their store and putting roadblocks for Android to support things like their messenger

    The case is that they're abusing their market lead by forcing people to stay on iPhones, all these restrictions Android/Google DOESN'T do

    Oh give me a break. Unlike crypto, AI actually does have a lot of uses and it makes sense for many industries to push for it so they don't need to hire as many people or make their work more efficient. Customer support and language translation comes to mind.

    But also apps intended for kids have been complete failures. The only thing they succeeded in was making platforms where advertisers target children easily. Youtube kids feels like a nightmare of elsagate and shovelware, and it's scary parents are letting their kids use them without realizing just how bad they are.

    Awesome. People were worried Stability will focus on enterprise AI after SDXL and completely forget making consumer AI, but this is definitely not the case.

    This model is being released under a non-commercial license that permits non-commercial use only.

    God bless.

    I'm afraid to even ask for the minimum specs on this thing, open source models have gotten so big lately

    simple ,
    @simple@lemm.ee avatar

    It's like calling a laptop "Laptop v3.5". They decided to name their product on the literal technology they use which was just a bad idea from the start, and is still causing confusion to this day when open source models are also called GPT.

    simple ,
    @simple@lemm.ee avatar

    You don't say. Chatbots are trained off of average raging people on the internet, there is no way they can be in a position of military power.

    I had a friend in this exact situation where every time we hang out his GF would constantly speak in his name when I ask him anything, and he'd just shut up and let her do it.

    "Hey dude, do you like X?"

    "GF: Yes, he does."

    Unsurprisingly it was a toxic relationship and they eventually broke up but it lasted way too long...

    Speaking of, does anyone remember Rockmelt? It was a weird older browser that had all the popular chats in its sidebar where you can access them without going to each website separately. It was pretty cool until Yahoo bought it and it died instantly.

    I'm not controlling what people are posting or reading, I'm just voicing my opinion.

    These types of points are repetitive and have pointless discussions. "Elon Musk is bad stop using twitter" Yes, we know, we have this thread virtually every day now and get the same exact comments with the same exact responses. I'm tired of seeing them constantly on my feed is all.

    Definitely depends on the school and where you live, but in my experience the rules have become really loose. Every kid has a phone and mobile data. They're banned in class but kids always try to open their phones to check them and hide them quickly anyways. Many kids spend breaks on their phone. Banning kids from coming into school with phones in their first place is what the article means.
