okay but you end up paying more - if it was just normal data plan and cost of phone it would be even, but there's also something paid to middleman that provides something that is effectively credit and extortion services like simlock and some legal thingies, it might have smaller downpayment but it's not this, see also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boots_theory

this is on top of various security and privacy implications of using a phone which you can't legally reflash

what are you talking about, number stations have very explicit military intelligence purpose, that's not some lightweight trolling

small samples can achieve ridiculous efficiencies. @ me when they 1. can scale this thing to entire panel, and 2. lasts longer than it takes to get it out of lab. silicon can pull 22% and more, scales reliably and lasts longer. also, it's a bunch of marketing fluff, linked to other marketing fluff. if there's anything real, you could just post DOI

people who were using these addons probably had them installed already, so it'll only affect new users

HP bricks ProBook laptops with bad BIOS delivered via automatic updates — many users face black screen after Windows pushes new firmware (www.tomshardware.com)

On May 26, a user on HP's support forums reported that a forced, automatic BIOS update had bricked their HP ProBook 455 G7 into an unusable state. Subsequently, other users have joined the thread to sound off about experiencing the same issue....

A PR disaster: Microsoft has lost trust with its users, and Windows Recall is the straw that broke the camel's back (www.windowscentral.com)

It's a nightmare scenario for Microsoft. The headlining feature of its new Copilot+ PC initiative, which is supposed to drive millions of PC sales over the next couple of years, is under significant fire for being what many say is a major breach of privacy and security on Windows. That feature in question is Windows Recall, a...

yes they are, you can detect lower bands pretty much everywhere. The problem is modulation: AM sucks balls when it comes to noise rejection. Some AM stations switch to digital encoding which uses the same band so good propagation + good audio quality within some range. After you get too far away signal just drops, if you're willing to put up with higher noise level range of normal AM radio is basically global

because the sooner corporate meatheads clock that this shit is useless and doesn't bring that hype money the sooner it dies, and that'd be a good thing because making shit up doesn't require burning a square km of rainforest per query

not that we need any of that shit anyway. the only things these plagiarism machines seem to be okayish at is mass manufacturing spam and disinfo, and while some adderral-fueled middle managers will try to replace real people with it, it will fail flat on this task (not that it ever stopped them)

skillissuer ,
@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

orrrr just ditch the entire overhyped underdelivering thing

lol and what else

this process is already in use in dead sea chemical works and it's about separating magnesium, just this time it uses desalination brine as an input

so it gives some table salt, and depending on what you want it to output, potassium chloride, magnesium salts or metal, gypsum, lithium

Returned brine is damaging to seafloor so returning less salt is a net improvement

skillissuer ,
@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

some of these are removed one step upstream (in desalination plant)

it's worse than reddit, but these come mostly from lemmy world

skillissuer ,
@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

that description is also not entirely accurate, because they're separating magnesium chloride by crystallization i guess, maybe some other methid, and then dry it, melt it, electrolysis gives magnesium metal and chlorine gas. just like in conventional process

It's Not Safe to Click Links on X (lifehacker.com)

As noted by security researcher Will Dormann, some posts on X purport to lead to a legitimate website, but actually redirect somewhere else. In Dormann's example, an advertisement posted by a verified X user claims to lead to forbes.com. When Dormann clicks the link, however, it takes him to a different link to open a Telegram...

there's a difference if the platform in question replaces every link with their own tracking link lengthener which only later redirects where it should. at least twitter and yt does this, preventing you from seeing real destination. some places don't

An Amazon chatbot that’s supposed to surface useful information from customer reviews of specific products will also recommend a variety of racist books, lie about working conditions at Amazon, and write a cover letter for a job application with entirely made up work experience when asked, 404 Media has found.
