Think about the Pentium versions of the Celeron, too. XP was their peak time.

ursakhiin ,

Do it 2 days before highly anticipated mod drops

This interaction is so indicative of the reality of device fandom.

The Android user isn't storing information about the iPhone in their brain.

The iPhone user is responding like everybody knows everything about iPhone features and it was dumb of the android user to not know this thing.

ursakhiin ,

Dude is effectively open challenging data-miners. Regardless of how people feel about them, this is going to motivate them to try.

Even if this one game limits them until things are found, the techniques likely won't work again as the data miners will then look at how they could have discovered the keys given knowledge of how to find them.

This is what is meant by it being an arms race.

I've seen scrub/dish daddies and did not know the mommy existed

ursakhiin ,

Yes, but other cars aren't operating inside enclosed tunnels at all times.

My hot take was "the notoriously hackable companies are now trusted to not get hacked"

ursakhiin ,

I think we just found out why they needed to charge for the API all of the sudden.

I am genuinely horrified to see how much data google collected from me

I created a google takeout and in that zip file I found some files containing a ton of data about me. It has logged every single page I visited while using the google search engine and chrome browser. It even logged every single time I opened an app on my old android phone. It even has VOICE RECORDINGS of me and a log of every...

ursakhiin ,

This is entirely speculation on your part.

Google has been more transparent that it happens. Apple is definitely collecting information on everything you do on their devices as well. It may be just as much info.

With their new pay later feature, you know they are at least collecting enough info to make financial decisions based on your profile.

They also collect health data using the watch.

They collect more than that in order to better understand how to keep people in their ecosystem. I'd wager the latter will about cover what OP was surprised by Google capturing.

Microsoft is another story. They are the most valuable tech company in the world right now due to AI. Which indicates that they are training some powerful AI on data that has been gathered in a number of places.

What can you get to within a 15-minute walk of your house?

A recent YouGov survey asked Americans what they think they should be able to get to within a 15-minute walk of their house.

Of these choices, I can currently walk to all of them from my apartment, aside from a university (no biggie, I'm not currently studying, although there is a Tafe within walking distance), a hospital, and a sports arena.

How many can you get to with a 15 minute walk from your house?

Suburbs weren't from a fear of communal parks. Parks are still common in suburbs that have larger yards.

Suburbs were a way to continue segregation in schools and services by moving further away so that minorities wouldn't have immediate access in a logistics sense.

It's it possible the meme isn't as good as you think it is?

ursakhiin ,

Man. Maybe I'm lucky, but the five guys near me is 11.29 for a full sized cheeseburger with no sides. 12.69 is the most expensive one with bacon but I usually just do the little one which is 8.79.

They do charge an arm and a leg for the fries, though. Which I guess is to be expected since their measurements for a small fry is "all of them"

ursakhiin ,

Something I'm not seeing here is many people in the cyber and info security spaces will have a homelab capable of complex configurations in order to mimic enterprise environments for their research.

This could be as simple as a single VM or as complex as multiple segregated networks to try to traverse.

How Do I Avoid Giving Home Address to Bank?

I've heard of things like iPostal and Traveling Mailbox. Do these services allow you to register with bank, DMV, IRS, Voting, etc? How do they work? Would a normal P.O box using its physical address from USPS work? I've tried researching it and haven't gotten clear answers....

ursakhiin ,

Unless your government id has a PO box on it you're likely not going to get the results you're looking for. As somebody else mentioned, that info is public record.

ursakhiin ,

Back in my day we just looked at photoshopped pictures of celebrities like respectable men!

I will say that Apple is 100 percent collecting your data. Health, financial, biometric, anything you put in an Apple Device is subject. Like most large companies, the are probably also purchasing profile data from Acxiom and Experian.

I don't know if they are doing it with this service but Apple is definitely not respecting your privacy. If you are concerned about privacy, you're better off trying to use more specialized tools for a job than any singular ecosystem. Apple wants everybody to be in their single ecosystem to better build profiles in their systems.

As somebody who frequently dislikes extremely popular movies, everybody else has trash taste.

Inception was just ok and Interstellar got me to stop watching Nolan movies all together.

ursakhiin ,

I had this thought all the way to the airport, once. Got on the plane without knowing the answer for sure.

I did lock the door, it turned out.

ursakhiin ,

"Racketeering" is definitely the wrong word.

I'll put it like this. I think YouTube Premium is too expensive. I also think YouTube is too aggressive with it's ads.

I opt to send them that message by using an ad blocking service tailored to YouTube and paying the content creators in other ways.

If the family plan weren't 20 dollars a month to cover 2 accounts I would probably buy it. But they opted to offer only 1 or many never just 2.

I'm capable of affording it. I pay nearly every major streaming service monthly even when I am not using them, so long as their cost is reasonable.

YouTube Premium's cost is not reasonable. Especially when you consider they are still collecting and making money off of your data in the end.

ursakhiin ,

It's completely fair that your view on the pricing is different than mine.

Complete transparency, I do play their ads sometimes. I only refuse if I'm watching on my phone directly, but I cast from the official app. And I will have YouTube playing when I'm eating or playing a game on the steam deck.

The thing people should be referring to instead of it being a racket is that YouTube has a stranglehold on creators. I can watch streaming vids on another service, but if I want to consume content from small creators, I have to use YouTube. There isn't a real option for alternatives.

So, I do provide the platform with some money. Then I pay creators in a way where they get a higher dollar amount than YouTube would give them.

I don't think USA today or any other outlet should be protected. I do think the reporters that work there should be protected.

Corporations should be held accountable for what they say or "strongly encourage" others to say. Individuals should be protected if they get things wrong, though.

ursakhiin ,

I definitely drink Stouts year round.

Personally my issue with IPAs is that so many of them are generic IPA that tastes the same as 75 percent of the other IPAs and everybody that successfully brewed an IPA things they need to open a brewery with a bunch of IPAs.

When I go to a brewery and the option is 7 different variations of IPA and a guest beer, I usually know that the master brewer doesn't know much else about beer.

ursakhiin ,

Might have been a wording mistake but I was replying to the idea that I wouldn't do it.

And there are breweries in my area that seem then year round.
