The "empty" half of the plug (with the two hollow squares) is either at the top or on the right in 99% of cases. Once you realize that you barely ever have to flip it even one time.

I'm European but I'm an English second language speaker, so that may be the reason I use this words that way. However wikipedia for example calls the male part the plug and the female the receptacle as well

Hmm, why need dark mode in VLC? You launch a video file and watch it full screen anyway. Also, VLC has themes and last I checked there were couple of them which were sufficiently dark

If I were to only use legal sources of media, then I would stick with either Apple TV or HBO Max (yeah it's still called that where I live). Otherwise I recommend Cloudstream for Android TV

It's different in Poland, because we don't normally use credit or debit cards for online purchases — we use Blik, which is a proprietary inter-bank payment system based on one-time tokens which are only valid for 2 minutes. You don't give your card information to Amazon or wherever you make a purchase (also compatible with regular contactless card terminals in physical locations) to charge you themselves however much they feel like, but rather provide a one-time code, confirm the transaction on your phone and you're charged immediately.

EDIT: oh and also it supports contactless payments via NFC on rooted phones so we got a workaround to Google messing with Gpay 8)

I think it's about money, just like with Vanced. Google didn't care for the hacked YouTube client before the team behind the mod tried to make money off of it. Now Yuzu did the same and Nintendo went after them.

I use Antennapod on Android, it syncs with Gpodder (which requires self hosting on Nextcloud) and then there's plenty of compatible clients over on desktop

I recommend Material Files from f-droid, it seems more barebones, but is superior in terms of functionality, especially for power-users and rooted devices (also available in the Play Store)

It is not, there are actual colour categories at the top of the page which allow you to filter by thumbnails. This is what the Red page looks like for me:

This was probably a joke but I can actually answer that for you.

First of all, afaik there is no scientific consensus that people see the colours the same way. In fact, we most likely don't. The visual colour interpretation is mostly likely merely added on by our brains basing on the knowledge of wavelengths. In other words, there is no such thing as "absolute blue". There is "a blue" which is the colour each one of us' brains was taught to call blue by simply showing the sky. If I were to look through your brain (but not through your eyes, eyes understand wavelengths), we would probably disagree on each and every colour.

Second of all, there are different kinds of colour blindness. It is in fact an umbrella term for different disabilities. My understanding is that they usually involve a spectrum between two hues. So most colourblind will simply be unable to tell a difference between objects of two colours: for example red and green. They see them as slightly different versions of the same colour. However it would be wrong to say that the person in question sees red as green or vice versa, because, again, there are no "absolute colours". Their eyes cannot distinguish between these two ranges of wavelengths and the brain interprets them as the same colour.

And finally, colourblind people, when diagnosed, are fully aware of being colourblind, and furthermore, they DO NOT see in black and white. Even if a person cannot distinguish red and orange, then they still are aware there is a difference that most people around can tell and that there are concepts and feelings associated with them.

What I am trying to say is that a colour-blind person would probably still be able to, for example, associate "red" videos with action and blood, and "green" ones with nature and calmness, even though this distinction is not palpable to them.

Either way, this filtering with thumbnail colour is fucking stupid.

This reminds of how Xiaomi introduced sorting by colours of the app icon in their launcher. But that was different and I believe actually helped getting around

Then why did you recommend FreeTube in the first place? I'm fully aware of LibreTube, Newpipe and Grayjay, but I choose to use Revanced due to factors mentioned in other comment. Using an alternative clients such as those listed above does not solve the global issue of Google making fucking stupid decisions, even if you yourself are not touched by them because you happen to use Newpipe

This is a necessary reminder that Ecosia is a scam:

  • they don't "plant trees" but rather contribute very little amounts to existing programmes
  • "Every search plants a tree" is a lie. It's not every search, but rather every couple clicks on an ad
  • They use Bing results making them useless

If you're using Ecosia with an adblocker or knowingly skip over sponsored results then you are NOT in any way contributing to the tree-planting

they are not "clear about that". I can see they removed it now but for the longest time the main page had a banner saying "every search plants a tree" and also an actual counter which went up by one every time you made a search -- which was misleading, because it wasn't every "search", because you would have to click on an ad, and it wasn't "every", because it took several clicks on an ad to actually contribute an equivalent of a tree
