It didn’t originally have lyrics so free users are not really losing anything.

EDIT: they created an incredible UI around a service that upended the music industry and y’all are mad that they’re charging to use some extra features? u still have your music for free. they probably shouldn’t have had a feature free and then charged for it, but in the end you still have free music. what free streaming service is better?

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

Sure but they’re not leaving... They have the largest user base by over 100M. Is that why u added the “lmao”? Sarcasm?

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

Apples to oranges

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

What is shit about it though? Just pay for it. It’s worth it.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

The TikTok thing is likely influenced by the possible ban in US.

As their users keep growing they can charge more in ads, but to your point, they will have to find a way to get more people to pay for the service. Maybe they need tiered pricing. One price for no ads and another price for additional features like lyrics.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

When you say choose you mean you use it for free or pay for it?

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

So confused. A bunch of people using a platform for free criticizing them for never making a profit, then complaining when they try to make a profit by charging for a feature that doesn’t interfere with listening to music?

Do y’all feel the same way about YouTube?

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

People can try Spotify premium for 3 months free, but I understand what you’re saying. Some people won’t want to sign up for something that they have to remember to cancel, but if they’re truly in the market for a paid service it shouldn’t matter.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

Okay, well YouTube isn’t going anywhere.

Twitter was hardly ever profitable. I understand what you’re saying, that they need to keep growing their free user base to become profitable with ads, but they can’t do it with ads alone and I’m sure they’re time crunched. I could see them selling to a larger corporation at some point you think you dislike Spotify now. Just wait.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

not this alone, but as one person commented, the lyrics were a deciding factor of Spotify over YouTube Music. this among other features could draw more paid users. do other platforms offer lyrics that follow the music for free?

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

what are you using instead?

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah it’s not the status symbol it used to be.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

Haha a little extreme. Thinking about it, I’ve never seen a blue lives matter or Trump sticker on a Tesla so I don’t associate with the KKK type crowd. Lots of trucks tho.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

And then there’s Outlook just being its ancient self.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

Only the US is allowed to steal our data and manipulate us with it. Not another country. Duh

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

“Pacquiao!” That’s what they sound like to me. Or “fuck you”

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

Sounds nice but often times people stand for something because they’ve fallen for something

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

yup

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

It’s a game. Stanley Parable

venusaur ,

it's funny and clever. kind of like Portal without all the puzzles.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

I wonder if a disposable camera at a party back in the day had crazier pics than any one person’s cell phone today.

People didn’t think things would get posted online so weren’t censoring themselves as much, but also, people like showing everything for social media today so not sure which.

iMovie and Logic/Garageband emulators on Switch

Haha. Just a petty way for Nintendo to get back at them.

At the risk of sounding like a Texan governor, what does infinite scrolling porn do to somebody’s brain, and how does that affect their sex life?

EDIT: just do a little research on infinite scrolling and the effects of porn and then think about the effects of those combined. Y’all sound like porn addicts. It’s okay to watch porn. It’s not okay to deny that there are serious detrimental side effects to what and the way we consume it. Take care of yourself if having meaningful sexual experiences with a real human matters to you.

venusaur , (edited )
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

I think this is detrimental quicker than other pleasures, a porn magazine for example, or even a porn streaming site. It hits faster, is more stimulating and is less work to keep it going.

Compounding the negative effects of infinite scrolling and porn seems very detrimental to one’s sexual psychology and in turn their life.

EDT: damn y’all really love porn. clearly no women on Lemmy yet.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

Haha all good. Still needed to be said.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

Church is for pedos. Don’t have to listen. Still needs to be said. It’s for your own health.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

Haha for real

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

It needed to be said. It’s for your health. Like telling stoners that smoking weed every day is bad for you even tho it’s not hard drugs.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

The format is totally diff. This is YouTube vs instagram or TikTok. You know the difference.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

This is what people consider sex now?

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

Sure. People can just not do crack. A more like comparison, people could just not scroll through Lemmy or any other infinite scrolling app, but they do because nobody thinks it has any real ramifications.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

Hahah that’s exactly how I said it. “For your helph”

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

For sure. The question still stands. Does anybody think about the ways this is detrimental to people?

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t think it is though. Lots of articles on the effects of infinite scrolling on our brains. It triggers dopamine and becomes addictive. TikTok is different than going to YouTube for example. Then add the effects of porn on our brain to that and you got a very potent digital cocktail.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

Women wouldn’t be so vehemently against what I’m saying. And keep the conversation civil.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

You can’t disagree with the effects of infinite scrolling vs a streaming website tho.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

Just do a little research on infinite scrolling and the psychological effects. It’s addictive and trains your brain.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

Watching porn isn’t sex and I’m not saying porn in and of itself is as much of a problem as infinite scrolling is. You’re inferring a lot. Just do some research on infinite scrolling and think about it. If u wanna watch infinite porn, more power to you, but doesn’t mean it doesn’t have negative side effects.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah it’s fine in moderation but that’s like somebody denying that alcohol can be bad for you. Bunch of porn addicts in denial. By the time we recognize how detrimental it can be on our lives it’ll be too late. It already is. Too many people brainwashed cuz we don’t take it seriously.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

Wow. Relax, I’m not on a crusade against porn. Many of you are addicted to porn and are in denial, or don’t know it. I’m not saying all types of porn in all amounts and methods of consumption are bad. The types of porn that are popular and seen in the gifs on that site and the method in which it is being consumed can have detrimental effects on our brains.

If you care all you have to do is a quick google search. Here are the Wikipedias on porn and infinite scrolling compiling multiple sources.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Effects_of_pornography

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doomscrolling

I doubt me providing you a link or two is gonna change your beliefs. I’m presenting the issue and it’s up to you to decide.

Just think about the types of porn that is popular, how that is vastly different from what a healthy sexual relationship is like, and how the compounded effects of “doomscrolling” could affect your relationship with yourself, your sexual partners and society in general.

More importantly, don’t keep the discussion limited amongst other men. Go ask women about their sexual experiences. You’ll find that a lot of guys are engaging in sex in the same way they engage with porn and humans really can’t compete.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

Haha right? Lots of people addicted to porn and in denial.

venusaur ,
@venusaur@lemmy.world avatar

I think that’s a fair argument. Infinite scrolling still trains our brain based on the task we are giving it. If it’s entertainment then we are training ourselves to go forever. If it’s orgasm, then we are training our brain to constantly be stimulated by infinitely changing stimuli, which no human can compete with sexually.

And no, there isn’t enough data yet, but there also isn’t enough data around smoking weed and long term effects, especially around pregnancy, but people understand it’s probably not safe. Use at your own risk. I’m just saying that it very likely has some detrimental effect on our brains, but can’t prove how much.
