Sorry to ask but where's sync? I know it's closed source but it's the most comfortable Lemmy client (I tried thunder but it felt a bit clunky with how the menus are designed) that also doesn't bug out like summit (for some reason when I open a post the title and the text above it gets shrunk to the smallest height possible and it's not readable at all)

This, MFers will have the most top spec computer and worry about bloat while I install random shit for fun on my 320gb had drive that's also my boot drive on my core 2 duo computer with 3 gigs of ram that struggles to run firefox and thunar at the same time (also cinnamon is the best running on my computer from my testing, xfce is laggy af and I'm not even going to mention kde, bspwm or any other since the, either lag beyond usability (KDE) or just straight up crash my computer into tty when i try to launch them (bspwm), one massive note is that I'm using software rendering since the GPU on the core 2 duo is struggling with even drawing the boot screen)

Literally have probably a ton of overlap software from installing the desktop environments and other random (well not very random, stuff I used on windows before) software that I don't bother googling the deleting commands since apt installed them all as snaps because I never noticed in my first three months of use, fuck you Ubuntu, Xubuntu and all other derivatives, this shit makes me not want to use Ubuntu ever again (not like i can, my pc is fucked and no other drive is bootable, i can't even boot an install usb)

Yeah, I'm not actually not very into the tiling window manager thing, I tried bspwm just for the sake of wanting to try one but I since lost interest, I'll keep it in mind though and maybe come back and try it one day

Sad iMessage didn't get categorised as a gatekeeper, even though in here, the absolute ass of Europe called Czechia the iPhone market share is just above 1/3 of all phones active (which if I remember is way higher than it used to be) I completely expect for this number to rise, since people buy for the brand, and these brain-dead people are the ones to use the default messaging service, thus I can't wait to get shamed in 10 years for using my android phone and not being able to use iMessage

    Honestly the Murder Drones "Worker Drone" is an awesome base design (the disassembly drone just looks like an emo version of the base design), if I ever wanted to be a robot I would be that, too bad they (canonically) run on core 2 quads(or maybe even core 2 duos), which I had the experience to deal with irl and even on Linux they're painfully slow

    Well considering here in Czechia (the country that's 90% "middle of fucking nowhere") it's scary that a third of active phones are iPhones, how does anyone except the people living in big cities afford this shit? People around me are getting iPhones, but it's always like 4-5 year old 11s and 12s, literally the shittiest investment you can do

    Also can't wait in a couple of years when this number will probably go up and iMessage will take over any other messaging app

    I got a phone that's 2/3s of the price, started on android 13, got 14 recently, yeah it's the same but the advantage of it being newer means I have a bigger battery, 90hz display, and more that you just don't get with a 4-5 year old phone

    14 year old PCs are quite capable for may everyday use

    I got a core 2 duo (3gb of ram and a HDD as a boot drive, really ancient I know) computer, it's the only computer I have and I absolutely hate it since it sucks, even with Linux (xfce as a desktop) it takes so long to boot (usually 3 to 4 minutes, windows took like 6 to 7) and not to mention it being so laggy it struggles with launching Firefox and for example a file browser at the same time, and loading a webpage also takes a long time (around 20 seconds for Google, YouTube about 30 s)

    Yeah, these computers are really just unusable even for really lightweight work, yeah "upgrade to a SSD, it will be blazing fast", wouldn't that just speed up the boot time? The least important thing? Since like I can just walk somewhere and then come back before it boots, but when I'm waiting for a webpage to load or a program to load up it's really that I do have to wait there, doing nothing in the meantime

    Well it still works, it's just that it's "locked" to Linux, no matter what I change in the bios it refuses to boot anything else, live USBs, my old windows drive (since I installed it separately), nothing, only just that install of xubuntu, nothing else

    I learnt this when trying to distro hop, that was like a few days after I installed, that was like in September of last year, I haven't fixed (or bothered with) it since

    The thing is it works, just that other bootable drives don't work, only this Linux drive, no live USBs not my old windows drive, nothing else works no matter what I Change in the bios

    Yup, tried just loading the windows drive inside and setting it in priority in bios (just in case), in the top left corner it just showed something along the lines of "Ubuntu - success" (don't remember now since it was so long ago)

    Yeah but I would need another drive to now install another os on, but yeah it might be worth giving a try

    No the weird thing is that I had only one sata cable for my hard drive, so I just plugged in a new replacement drive and installed it, only when the live USBs didn't work I tried plugging in the windows drive

    Well there was only one physical drive to install on do it had to install to it's drive, so idk what's going on, and it wouldn't explain me not being able to boot live USBs either

    I did had to turn on uefi to install, so idk if that had to do something with it, can't recall if I tried turning it off yet

    Yeah I need to get a new drive to test as I said, as for the usb ports I tried all of them on my pc, none worked, about reformatting idk if you mean Linux or windows but I have some important stuff there (the reason I installed on a new drive without having another sata cable) so it's not the preferred option for me

    I was a lot into drawing a few years ago, moderately good I would say, nothing exceptional I would say, then I got bored of drawing with a pencil and paper and wanted to try out digital drawing, never got one and I didn't draw ever since, I've had some hand injuries in that time (nothing serious but it definitely left a mark) so idk if I can still draw, and this just turns into a spiral of demotivation

    Yeah but if you live in places as Eastern Europe there aren't a lot of "yay LGBT" people (yeah sorry for me saying it that way, couldn't think of any other way to describe it), especially in the more remote parts (like for example, Prague is like an American city in this regard, a ton of support and stuff, and when I compare it to the middle of nowhere I live in it's the complete opposite)

    I at least get the luxury that they don't get the "uwu Linux turned me into a femboy" post on their tiktok fyp (ofc they have that app installed so they can get their daily dose of homophobic bs)

    To note these aren't my friends but classmates, we had an event a few days ago about learning how to stand up for our opinions and the first thing they pulled out is about this, ofc 95% of all guys in the class went to the "ban and execute" group, they lost their argument since their only opinion was "well it's not natural", I hate how they just dragged this for the rest of the event (the next task was to come up with a list of the most common positive opinions of society, ofc since they are the majority of out class the result was "banning LGBTQ", and not to mention they dragged it for next three days after the event too

    TL;DR

    It just depends on where you live, and what the common opinions there are

    Yup, can say that firefox is quite a bit slower on android (but honestly it's still quite ok, unless it decides to loop loading the page, or it bugs out in another way, at least on my phone it's quite prone to breaking, for comparison brave is really a bit faster than Firefox

    You wouldn't believe how many people are actually incompetent using a pc beyond using default values and browsing the web, for example in school one day I had to help classmates save their project documents to the school's server, because they didn't know how to browse the select folder dialogue box (or whatever it's called), and another dude in my class didn't know how to use the shortcut bar at the bottom of the window in PowerPoint so he literally scrolled through the ribbon for like 2 minutes before he managed to launch the presentation (and this guy is a straight A student to note), I also heard stories about coworkers which didn't know how to open a zip file or how to forward an email

    The oversimplification of software is really problematic, since everything is made to be as straightforward as it can be people just go with it and then have a problem when they need to do something a different way

    Well of course, that's why I compared brave and not chrome, although the brave adblock sucks sometimes

    But yeah, the firefox on android is good enough to set it as a default browser (never actually noticed that the Google discover page just opens in chrome and ignores your default browser before doing this, interesting how some apps do this too)

    There's this dude on YouTube called oats Jenkins and makes better versions of things, he made a "traffic 2" video and in it he said something along the lines of "oh and you will need a permission ticket for a pickup added to your driving licence if you want one, so that only people who need a pickup truck can have one"

    This is absolutely genius in my opinion, and I saw these big ass pickups spreading into europe, and like where I live (pretty small far away town of which there's a ton of in Europe) they would take up somewhere to 3/4 to the full damn road (I saw someone drive one and it really went like that those things are as big as a bus)

    I'm a newbie, used a derivative of Ubuntu (xubuntu) since my computer is slow and old as fuck, it ended up somehow breaking my pc into only booting the drive with the Linux install on it and refuse to boot anything else not even live USBs (putting back in my windows drive just shows "success Ubuntu" in the top left corner)

    If you think it's bios related please tell me, because I tried to mess with every damn setting related to this (I didn't try resetting the CMOS but I doubt it will do anything)

    If anything it probably made me hate Ubuntu based distros in general (couldn't try anything else because the pc is fucked)

    I'll try that, it's actually the opposite, it has an uefi switch in the bios since it's so old it probably was the standard to use legacy boot, guessing by the CPU (core 2 duo, idk what model though) it's probably a 2007/08 prebuilt (by the weird PSU)

    It would make sense that it would be a problem with windows if it didn't have the uefi setting on, but it still doesn't explain the "Ubuntu success" message I got instead (and that was the case when the Linux drive was completely disconnected )

    Will reply after I try it out, if it doesn't work I'll try the CMOS instead, if that doesn't work either then I guess I fucked up my computer beyond repair

    Idk, in Rufus I set it to MBR (well it set to that automatically if I'm not mistaken) since I didn't know if it would support GPT (it's an old pc as I said), also I only had a single sata cable available so I installed it without the windows drive connected, the error message popped up only after I replaced the drives and tried to boot to the windows one, which wss supposed to be untouched, also as I said no bootable media (I made with Rufus, I could try balena etcher or what you said) but it just skips the boot media when i turn it on, even if i set it to the highest priority in bios (tried Debian, mint, kubuntu, but I'll try fedora to see if it's any different)

    When I was making the drives in Rufus it didn't say anything when writing to the drive
