The thing to remember is that cryptography is very tricky business, and even when an algorithm is sound on paper that does not guarantee that it's implemented in a secure way. A famous example is when NSA "helped" develop the Diffie-Hellman cryptographic key exchange standard and introduced a vulnerability that nobody noticed for a very long time.
Any standard that's been developed in conjunction with US agencies should be considered compromised in my opinion.

There would be a few levels of complexity to it. But if you're hosting a lemmy instance already, it shouldn't be any trouble for you ... basically make yourself the only account but allow people to federate with your instance. Add your own modified front end too if you like (as lemmy has separate backend and front end software stacks AFAIU). Interestingly, I think it would be a cool project for people to work on ... a front end suitable for hosting a single (or even multi) user blog on the fediverse.
An additional option would be microblog: https://docs.microblog.pub/. It's a single-user fediverse platform written in python and relying on sqlite (which sounds to me like a nice sweet spot for single-user instances).
Ahh, I didn't get that far in the docs, but seeing as there are no (that I can tell) post limits, running a blog on Lemmy would work pretty well with a bit of a UI change.

At first I considered using the official Lemmy UI with custom CSS & JS injected, but versioning is still zero-based (0.y.z), which means breaking changes can happen at any time, and that can cause huge issues with customization.
Now I'm considering alternative clients, like Alexandrite, but it's unsupported despite being maintained.

Well there are blogging platforms for the fediverse (ie they federate) I forget their names but in it sure WriteFreely is one.
Beyond that, Wordpress has integrations now with the fediverse which federate as user accounts. It seems to work ok, in that I’ve seen blogs appear in mastodon. But one point of friction I think is how comments are federated. Maybe it works fine but I’m key sure they’ve made a choice to not federate comments from Wordpress to mastodon so there’s context collapse.
Otherwise, the idea I’m thinking of hasn’t been realised yet AFAICT. TBF, it would probably require more than a front end for lemmy, I suspect some backend features would be required too. Nothing too big I’d think. But alas no. Still think it’s be cool!

In the docker-compose.yml, you specify services, and these services can use the official container images.
The only thing the docker-compose actually does is define your services so you don't have to specify them each time starting a container.
It's more closely related to the initial intentions of the internet than most other social platforms. Ideally it could get things going back in the right direction again iif nothing else!
This describes me perfectly. Most of the alternatives I saw previously just ended up being coopted by the alt-right crowd who got chased off of Reddit. Lemmy (so far) represents what I want from an online community.

Peertube is a good federated alternative to Youtube, it also connects to the Fediverse and there is a central search engine called Sepia Search, which makes it easier to find content on the different instances.

At this point, it's only going to get worse. It's a very large Venture Capital backed company, on track to IPO.
Large VC/public companies goals will follow more of what we see with "mainstream" sites and social media. It'd be against their goals and their business to have less ads, less agorithms showing what their partners want to see and not what the user wants to see, less bloat on their front end. Even if the CEO wanted to go that way, he'd quickly be replaced.
It's a self sustaining movement of capital now and users are annoyances that they have to deal to achieve their goals.
I'll be honest, I started using redding decade ago because most forums were very niche, specific, with weird to follow rules, very low on users, and reddit seemed to always have a community for each topic I had an interest on. It still does, but the end is approaching fast, and I don't want to search Discord servers, social media videos, or even ancient methods that are alternatives like IRC servers, mailing lists ; search results are useless in Google due to SEO and already affect other search engines
It all comes up to finding one or more sites that don't look ancient or too mobile focused, and if enough people are going to use it and stick to it. Otherwise it'll just be another corner of the web filled with a few crazy users
@const_void the school traffic situation was the tipping point for getting a #cargobike for us. Much calmer and faster way to do it, with opportunity for spotting and chatting about stuff going on in the neighbourhood. There’s the occasional poor driver behaviour that affects us but it’s quite rare compared what you get in the car.
