Campaigns Can Now See What You Watch on TV. (www.notus.org)

Televisions that can stream platforms like Hulu or Max usually come loaded with technology that collects information on what viewers are watching, and buyers consent to have their viewing tracked when they open their new TV and click through terms of service agreements. Sometimes, data firms can connect those viewing habits to a...

My God the Brits just love to keep on bending over and taking it. I'm constantly amazed by their apathy.

Does anyone really care at this point?

You could put 10 phones next to each other and they all basically look the same.

If you're getting exited about this year's model having a glossy finish, then you might need to reconsider your goals.

I'd say this is just some PR bullshit article to make people think other people really give a shit.

@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

Last time I had my phone plugged in to charge it, I noticed that it wasn't on charge mode exclusively, but it was actually on File Share Mode.

Now I don't know if the airplane was able to instigate that connection mode, or why my phone was on that mode, but it did concern me incredibly that they were able to browse the files on my phone, when I just wanted it to charge.

And so it begins. Soon this will be real time reporting.

Agree. Straight back for refund. In Australia we can legally choose the manufacturer, or the retailer. I'd go straight to Asus, to give them the message directly.

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

I've been down that road with Samsung. One mention of our consumer laws, with a link to the contact form where I can report them, and refund issued immediately. Australia has good laws. People just need to flex em.

That was an incredible read. Terrifying actuality. So obvious once you think about it.

My goodness. If you don't work in advertising, then get your arse into it now.

Mr Hicks. A total legend

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

Incredibly dark. That's a harrowing read. Why do UK citizens allow this? I had always seen them as a mix of 'ard' and 'smart as hell'. But this. This just shames them.

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

I'm also interested, so I hope you don't mind me joining the ride. Personally, I'd like a self hosted tool, but am happy to see what the community says.

Well that was apple's exact argument when they would not release phone cpu specs back in the day. "It's not relevant" they would say, as the whole experience is faster. It's really just whatever suites their marketing people. Slowed down your phones, oh, we got caught. But, it's a FEATURE, and so we don't get dragged through lawsuites, we're adding it as an OPTION. Look, the M4 looks great. But any spin they put on anything, I just take it with a grain of salt.

looking forward to linux being able to run hard and solid on them

N8N is great and just keeps getting better. I can only hope enshitification doesn't ensue as it gains popularity

I have about 12. Anything from checking emails for something I'm expecting and telegram messaging me. Scraping game websites for deals. Auto responder emails when I'm away. Just day to day stuff to automate. But, they've restricted their cloud version and are allowing self hosted a good run still. But, I suspect they'll want more money and chase the wrong people. Self hosters.

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

I agree. It's great software. But a home user simply can't justify that price

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

The forums seem to indicate self hosters are going to be screwed in time. Fingers crossed it's not true

We handle support in our company as part of our day to day. By and large the bulk of support is people simply leaning on us, rather than relying on common sense, or using the docs. Only a small percent is what would be considered essential.

However, each industry is different. This is just ours.

Generative AI could easily help the bulk of our support load.

Are you using a self hosted open source system, or a saas subscription? I'm genuinely interested.

It really is so slow it's not study worth using unfortunately.

Syncthing and some nice caldav and you're mostly good.

Comments no longer visible with youtube frontends?

Are comments no longer visible for anyone else using the youtube frontends? I can no longer see comments with either invidious, piped, or viewtube, and I've tried several instances of each. With invidious there's just nothing there below the video description. With viewtube I get an error message. And with piped I see...

True that. Google are starting the big crack down.

I personally feel these are the end days of what's left of the freedom internet.

Until platforms like Lemmy and mastadon and tools like blender, godot, etc etc, take over every aspect of the commercial systems, then we're beholden to the corporates.

We need to evolve, and move on.

    That's not what this is about. It's about Apple controlling it so heavily, that nobody can compete. Do you see any other Tap n Pay apps other than Apple Pay, for example? Why not? Because Apple are stifling competitors, which is illegal.

    I certainty hope so. If not, I'm out. I'll make my own with another system, or just Django something up

    Looking for a REALLY simple video editor for win10, nothing fancy please! [E: already solved. Amazing, thanks!] (kbin.social)

    Windows Movie Maker used to be good enough, but for a while now it won't load mp4's anymore and I can't be bothered to try and fix it, and I'm really hating the online editors I've tried, so it's time to download some software!...

    Looking for FOSS WYSIWYG HTML editor

    I'm making this request on behalf of a community I'm part of, which has some fairly specific requirements that we're struggling to fill. Basically, we're an art and writing group that makes extensive use of building our own old-school webpages (almost exclusively HTML, some of us use some CSS as well). This group has been...

    This thread made me a bit sad, and concerned. I didn't realise the world was losing these tools. Facebook has gobbled up the personal website space, etc.

    It makes me want to make a cute, personal homepage now.

    Do you feel comfortable sharing some of your pages here?

    makingStuffForFun ,
    @makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

    I'm going to. I've just spent the night trying to find personal art/sketching blogs. Not easy. It's all pintrest, artstation, etc. Very sad.

    Totally understand by the way re your sites. I can code Web pages, so I'm lucky. But I'd love a good dream weaver or similar for Linux. Just for the lazy and fun side of it all.

    One hundred dollar fine. Talk about corruption of the courts. That judge needs to be named and shamed. The police officer is a sexual preditor.

    Same here but I sync via my home server and syncthing to 4 devices.

    I've recently started using also as a wiki. As I found I'd save a bookmark in Firefox, go to view it down the track, and the site is gone.

    So it's now also my recipe book. My python / django / flask etc knowledge base.

    My to do list.

    Etc etc. Really have gone all in, and loving joplin

    Sounds like they have a loaded up landcruiser or similar, and maybe are towing?

    I have a loaded up (and I mean fully loaded) Nissan, towing, and i get about 400km to every 60ltrs. Not good.
