Can't wait for any $$ fined to be evenly split between the editors, publishers and their lawyers.

swope , to Technology in Hertz 180: Rental giant to sell 20,000 EVs and replace them with gas-powered vehicles
@swope@kbin.social avatar

I rented a Bolt EV from Hertz once. The car was fine, but the charging stations in the area were mostly broken, or they required downloading an app and giving personal information to charge.

I got the feeling the charging networks are all about collecting government incentives and the sale of private information from subscribers, and not at all about service.

My new preferred rental car is no rental car at all.

Radiant_sir_radiant , to Technology in Hertz 180: Rental giant to sell 20,000 EVs and replace them with gas-powered vehicles

IMHO the full title should read, "Hertz replaces shoddily built and expensive-to-fix cars, which just happen to be EVs, with more reliable models, which happen to be ICE cars."

That, and there was something about charging infrastructure.

Thevenin ,

Exactly. Hertz vocally blames higher repair costs and long repair times for the Teslas that make up the bulk of their EV fleet. Other EV manufacturers don't share those problems.

gaael , to Technology in Hertz 180: Rental giant to sell 20,000 EVs and replace them with gas-powered vehicles

Amended title:
Rental giant to take a huge step back in climate change fight and generate more GHG to protect their bottom line.

yo_scottie_oh ,

Alternate alternate title: EVs’ cost of ownership too high compared to ICEs.

intensely_human , to Technology in Hertz 180: Rental giant to sell 20,000 EVs and replace them with gas-powered vehicles

Yeah a company called Hertz pushing DC powered cars is absurd

Norgur , to Technology in Capcom caught adding Enigma DRM to older titles, for no good reason

It's baffling how so much of the world is driven by the blind grasp for the feeling of being in control by executives and how nobody stops the nonsense when it's just that: nonsense

These the guys that notoriously violated emissions standards and created software to hide the fact from testers? Some pretty spectacular claims you got there. Would be a shame if someone... doubted your reputation.

    Kiddkao ,

No. Most of the time there is a Accept all button, but a Manage button and then another popup where you have to uncheck everything and then Save. Pretty annoying, especially on mobile

    ADTJ ,

You are both correct, the law states that it has to be as easy to opt out as in, but most companies are not implementing it correctly

    phoenixz ,

Yeah, they "accidentally" did it completely wrong because fuck the customers and the law.

erranto , to Technology in European Union set to revise cookie law, admits cookie banners are annoying

I bet they will keep adding loopholes to keep websites bullying their visitors.

why bother making legal frameworks when you can't enforce them, there are hundreds of thousands of website including very prominent ones that hide the "reject all cookies" button after a second screen prompt. or flat out force you to opt-out of every second cookie category , just so you give up. they haven't been fined. and they know EU authorities aren't bothered either, so they keep infringing on the GDPR.

    Exosus ,

My biggest qualm is that usually these sites won't save it when you only allow necessary cookies. So they will ask you for every single session until you give in.

Blackmist , to Technology in European Union set to revise cookie law, admits cookie banners are annoying

Just make it illegal to sell user data to "data partners", and use cross site tracking.

Nobody actually "consents" to this shit. They just don't read.

TWeaK , to Technology in European Union set to revise cookie law, admits cookie banners are annoying

Not only are they annoying, they go half way to legitimising the theft of user data.

Collaboration is important and a key part of sustaining a culture with your peers, with your colleagues," Tan added.

BS. Collaboration does not require people to physically occupy the same space. It does require communication though, which happens quite easily thanks to the internet.

This is just an excuse to get rid of people or to fill empty offices to appease money hungry property owners.

    spaxxor ,

If physical contact was necessary for collaboration, then nearly every foss project would fail.
