GrayBackgroundMusic , to Technology in Gamers enraged at Ubisoft for injecting ads into the middle of video games

Ah, my hard line stance of "never buy anything ubisoft" is still working out for me.

Duamerthrax ,

Ubisoft, epic, ea, Blizzard/Activision...

I wont say Bethesda because I'm hoping for another Doom or Quake.

MycoBro ,

_EA is the fucking devil. They bought my favorite game, Ultima Online, and ruined it. _

fluckx , to Technology in Gamers enraged at Ubisoft for injecting ads into the middle of video games

Can we boycot the companies that do this already.
I get the AC IP is nice, I've certainly enjoyed my fair share of their games.

But the ad industry is completely getting derailed. What's next ? Watch a 15s promo video every time you want to open te fridge? Watch a promo video before you can open the door?

Have your walls randomly show you ads?

Stop buying their shit. Regardless of how decent the game is. Punish them for the predatory practices. Demand refunds.

But no. People will likely be outraged, and then next game angry and then the next game they'll suck it all up and complain about the good all days.

I always thought the cyberpunk genre was a warning, not a blueprint.

id say its like the dotcom bubble.
yeah its incredible new & emerging tech,
but that doesnt mean it isnt overhyped.

TimewornTraveler ,

What's the dotcom bubble?

someguy3 , to Technology in Over half of all tech industry workers view AI as overrated

Best assessment I've heard: Current AI is an aggressive autocomplete.

blackwateropeth ,

I’ve found that relying on it is a mistake anyhow, the amount of incorrect information I’ve seen from chatgpt has been crazy. It’s not a bad thing to get started with it but it’s like reading a grade school kids homework, you need to proofread the heck out of it.

hushable ,

I just reviewed a PR today and the code was... bad, like unusually bad for mycoworkers and left some comments.

Then my coworker said he used chatgpt without really thinking on what he was copypasting.

thal3s , to Technology in Meta given 30 days to cease using the name Threads by company that trademarked it 11 years ago
@thal3s@sh.itjust.works avatar

It appears that Meta was aware of Threads before launching its platform of the same name. Company lawyers made four offers to purchase the domain 'threads.app' from Threads Software Ltd from April 2023, all of which were declined. Meta announced Threads in July 2023, the same time that the British company says it was removed from Facebook.

Classic Facebook douchebaggery.

@moss@lemmy.world avatar

I live in the area and the streets are just clogged with these fucking autonomous cars. Traffic is slower, people end up having to swerve, it's just a constant persistent headache. If I had it my way, they'd all be off the streets and into the crusher

dustojnikhummer ,

Almost like public transit is better than self driving taxis

SCB ,

Public transit is better, but self-driving taxis are absolutely coming to every city in this country, which is great if you live in a city like mine that has little to no public transport infrastructure.

Also, automated taxis can service more rural areas, which is the key driver of lack of public transport in many "commuter cities."

Luddites gonna Luddite, but this tech is coming, and it's coming to logistics and taxis first.

dustojnikhummer ,

Yes, but SanFran ain't one of those. Taxis have the same problem cars do, which is size.

Thousands of accidents a year from human drivers. I sleep

90 accidents a year from autonomous vehicles. Lazer eyes
