A 62-Year-Old German Man Got 217 Covid Shots—and Was Totally Fine

Summary:

A 62-year-old man in Germany got a whopping 217 COVID-19 vaccines over nearly 3 years. Surprisingly, he reported no side effects and seemed healthy. Researchers studied his case to see if such extreme vaccination would weaken his immune system, as some have theorized.

The man's immune response was indeed different, with higher antibody levels and specific immune cells. However, it functioned similarly to people with standard vaccination doses. He also hadn't contracted COVID-19 (though this might be due to other factors).

While this is just one case, it suggests over-vaccination might not be detrimental. However, researchers strongly advise against this as a strategy to boost immunity.

What does this have to do with technology?

Jakeroxs ,

Healthcare and vaccines are technology driven these days

aDuckk ,

We wanted to know how good his 5g reception is

gareppa ,
@gareppa@programming.dev avatar

He just walks around and eradicates COVID19 from entire towns now.

Treczoks ,

According to the predictions of the antivaxxers, he probably should have been exploded with the force of a hydrogen bomb long ago...

bionicjoey ,

Or be able to move cars with his mind because he's basically Magneto now

Guntrigger ,

Just imagine how much Bill Gates knows about him. He's got more microchips in him than a supercomputer!

He is AI now

Womble ,

And there was me thinking ai meant artificial inteligence, when really it was just some guy named Al

dukethorion ,

This tells me a few things.

  1. One man has no reaction to that type of vaccine. So, either it works perfectly, or is perfectly worthless.

  2. Nobody is really tracking these vaccines.

  3. 216 other people might not have gotten a needed shot because this dipshit likes needle pricks, and it was cheaper than acupuncture.

randint ,
@randint@lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz avatar

I know you meant that as a joke but I feel the need to point out that acupuncture isn't just randomly stabbing needles in your body (nor into your veins) just in case someone didn't know. Acupuncture is inserting needles into very specific positions on your body according to what your symptoms are or what you want to achieve.

Jakeroxs ,

And it's bullshit!

I have gotten the covid vaccine about 20 times now. 4 Pfizer, 12 moderna, 4 Johnson. Once I got my first vaccine, I started cravings for it. There is something so great knowing I am reducing the spread of the coronavirus with each of them. I am feeling so empowered. I think I may be addicted ngl 😅. At least it won't kill me.

JustUseMint ,

I had a similar experience.

I got the phizer vaccine in June, the first shot hurt and made me queasy, the second shot was the same but I had an extreme craving for it again afterwards, now I have taken Phizer 19 times since, and moderna is even more addicting, ive done that shit atleast 35 times, Ive overdosed on both, and I still want more, I need rehab but atleast I’ll never get covid.

He's totally fine.

Yeah, I don't think totally fine would be an apt description of someone who willing shoved 217 COVID shots into himself.

superb ,
@superb@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

He probably didn’t shove them

Tetsuo ,

At this point I think he was on a vaccine IV.

BananaTrifleViolin ,

Yeah the actions of one probably mentally ill person is nothing more than a curio.

Someone using a vaccine 217 times is interesting from a science curiosity point of view but useless when it comes to safety or efficacy. All it tells us is that repeatedly using the vaccine in someone who never had a problem with it didn't cause problems. 1 person taking the vaccine 217 times is useless - 217 people taking the vaccine 1 time tells us much more.

suzune ,
@suzune@ani.social avatar

They found out that the biggest anti spike protein boost was at the 214th shot. So maybe all these weren't that useless...

dgriffith ,
@dgriffith@aussie.zone avatar

It's a similar data point to those people who accidentally got a single 10x or 100x dose. We know from those people that very large doses don't seem to have any major negative effects, we now also know that a long term "continuous" dose doesn't have much of a negative effect.

randomaccount43543 ,

That’s a single datapoint. You should probably get more to be sure

kometes ,
@kometes@lemmy.world avatar

I read somewhere that he was given some food with the vax -- he did them for the food.

INHALE_VEGETABLES ,

What kinda food are we talking here

shasta ,

Probably shnitzel and sauerkraut

kometes ,
@kometes@lemmy.world avatar

I cannot find where I read this. I suspect that it was speculation by someone on Lemmy. Please disregard.

SomeGuy69 ,

How the heck did he even manage to find that many doctors to give him a shot?

bitwaba ,

Public transit and nationalize healthcare are fucking impressive aren't they?

TimeSquirrel , (edited )
@TimeSquirrel@kbin.social avatar

Here where I am in the US there are probably like 200 drugstores and doctor's offices in a 30 mile radius that will give me a Covid shot no problem.

cyd ,

He's more mRNA than man now.

qaz ,

I doubt it made any change, considering mRNA has a half life of 10 hours.

redcalcium ,

So he got vaccinated every five days for 3 years?

altima_neo ,
@altima_neo@lemmy.zip avatar

I wonder who was giving him weekly shots? You'd think they'd raise issue with it.

Squire1039 OP ,
@Squire1039@lemm.ee avatar

... officials had opened a fraud investigation against the man, confirming 130 vaccinations over nine month... The man then reported an additional 87 vaccinations to the researchers, which in total included eight different vaccine formulations, including updated boosters.

ripe_banana ,

for “private reasons.”

That's such funny phrasing. Why not say like a misguided effort to protect better against covid.

tsonfeir ,

217 shots, my guy went straight for that 6G.

Maybe he got mad at the antivaxxers and said to them, "fine, more for me then!"

adam ,
@adam@doomscroll.n8e.dev avatar

He was selling the vaccine passports that he was issued to anti-vaxxers.

ripe_banana ,
@ripe_banana@lemmy.world avatar

Ah that makes so much more sense.

Tetsuo ,

I understand it as placebo effect.

He got a shot, felt better overall and then just kept going.
