Timeless (sh.itjust.works)

[panel 1: a large dodo approaches a clean, well dressed vagrant youth sat beside a well fashioned wood and stone building. The youth warily guards a bag holding their belongings and the stick they use to travel with it. The dodo asks “Pardon me, do you have the time?” and the youth replies “yes, it’s -“]...

Amazon Ditches 'Just Walk Out' Checkouts at Its Grocery Stores (gizmodo.com)

Amazon is phasing out its checkout-less grocery stores with “Just Walk Out” technology, first reported by The Information Tuesday. The company’s senior vice president of grocery stores says they’re moving away from Just Walk Out, which relied on cameras and sensors to track what people were leaving the store with.

13esq ,

You're right, they're not people, they're fucking parasites.

13esq ,

Keep kidding yourself that you can hear the difference.

Vinyls have their appeal but they get dusty, scratched, they skip etc. Only snobs truly think that they sound better.

Digital music can be taken as easily as it can be given.

CDs are the best compromise. They have sound quality as good as digital but you also get the lyrics and artwork that come with a vinyl, they're also much easier to store. The best thing though, is that if I get bored of a CD, I can sell it or even just give it away for free, you can't do that with digital music.

13esq ,

The only vinyls I buy are from charity shops or because I love an album so much that I want it as a collection (I'd also buy the CD to actually listen to)

13esq ,

I hate subscription services, for the cost of a Spotify subscription I can but one or two CD albums a month.

I buy a vinyl here or there but just to collect. I listen to my CDs.

13esq ,

I view vinyls as collectors items, not something you actually listen to. I still buy CDs because I hate the idea of subscription services.

13esq ,

I'd buy the vinyl as a collectors item, but the CD to upload on to my phone.

13esq ,

I agree that some cases are brittle but I've not seen a disc get fucked since I was a kid, when I couldn't be bothered to put them back in the case.

13esq ,

Retro sound of a CD?

They sound exactly the same as the digital releases. Only audiophiles up there own arses believe that they can hear a difference. Vinyls sound different but for obvious reasons.

13esq ,

They're absolutely objectively worse from an audio stand point.

I agree that they give you a different listening experience, which is subjective.

13esq ,

I liked Google play too. I was not pleased when they moved to YouTube music and made accessing your own music a total pain in the balls.

13esq ,

Fair play

13esq , (edited )

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out

Edit: It needed me to sign up with an email address and I saw it had in app purchases that put me off a bit. But when looking for that app I found Musicolet which looks pretty perfect, just a simple ad free music playing app without all the bollocks!

13esq ,

That's not what this comic is about, although I can kind of see why you thought that.

Instead of just downvoting you, shakes head at fellow lemmings, I'll explain what sealioning is.

"Sealioning is a type of trolling or harassment that consists of pursuing people with relentless requests for evidence, often tangential or previously addressed, while maintaining a pretense of civility and sincerity, and feigning ignorance of the subject matter." - Wikipedia

13esq , (edited )

It sounds like what you're saying is that you only think it's only bad for someone to sealion if you personally agree with the original sentiment, which is kind of missing the point.

Sealioning is always bad and it is a terrible debating style.

It's about arguing in good faith, what ever the position and not just shutting down the debate via the text/verbal equivalent of a DDOS attack, simply overloading a target with questions via an insincere pretence of ignorance.

You see, the comic is meant to be ironic. The character says they don't like sealions, then a sealion (which is a visual metaphor for the concept of sealioning) shows up and is increasingly unbearable for the next five panels despite maintaining a pretense of civility.

Passenger sees Boeing 757-200 “wing coming apart” mid-air — United flight from San Francisco to Boston makes emergency landing in Denver (www.cbsnews.com)

Passenger sees Boeing 757-200 “wing coming apart” mid-air — United flight from San Francisco to Boston makes emergency landing in Denver::A United Airlines flight to Boston was diverted to Denver because of an issue with the plane's wing.

13esq ,

Where does it say that the airline didn't send the plane for maintenance?

Airlines don't do their own maintenance, they send them back to Boeing.

A plane isn't like a car, you don't just have a go at changing the oil or fixing the brakes yourself and then hope for the best, you send it to the approved place when scheduled or you don't fly.

In a post about the EU denouncing the US support of an apartheid state, you want to pick the bones out of a reaction image?

I know you're butt hurt but most people couldn't give two fucks about Joe Rogan.

13esq ,

And people can't understand why I still buy CDs and DVDs, , ,

13esq ,

There's no evidence of this. Pet cats mostly take weakened or frail prey.

13esq ,

Literally nowhere? What absolute bollocks.

Cats moved across a land bridge to the UK over 9000 years ago, long before the Romans had anything to do with it.

13esq ,

The absolute brain-dead mentality of the people who will just downvote anything that doesn't fit their predetermined conclusion.

13esq , (edited )

I live in the UK where there are an estimated 10.8 million cats and have literally never seen "a dead cat on the side of the road". I appreciate that it is a real risk and that it does happen, but you're either blowing things out of proportion or there is something weird going on with Finnish cats and or Finnish drivers.

13esq ,

Cats are natural in many parts of the world.

The Scottish wild cat for instance came to the UK across a land bridge 9000 years ago.

This thread is full of people that have probably never left America, regurgitating virtue signalling nonsense that they know very little about.

I understand that in some ecosystems that pet cats are devastating, but it's just not true for most of the world.

13esq ,

230,000÷10,800,000÷4x100%≈0.5%

If I had to personally take that risk or stay in the house for the rest of my life. I'd choose freedom every time.

What's really more selfish and entitled? Imprisoning an animal for life in return for an increased 0.5% of safety or letting it makes its own choice?

13esq ,

If we're going to get philosophical, is there truly such a thing as an unselfish act?

So you wouldn't let a kid ever do anything that had any sort of risk at all? Do you know how many children die in RTAs each year? Would you stop your child from ever walking down the street or being in a car or bus?

If not, why is it ok to put your own child at risk of an RTA but not a cat?

13esq ,

You're going to ignore the challenge that it's ok for kids to be near roads and in vehicles on roads but too risky to let a cat out?

13esq , (edited )

You're not debating in good faith.

78 children died on the roads in the UK last year. Presumably most of them were supervised at the time.

I'm making the argument that if safety is your only priority that you would never allow a child anywhere near a road, nor would you ever let them travel in a vehicle on the roads. Please understand that I'm not talking about supervision, I'm making the argument that you can guarantee that your child will not die in a road traffic accident if you refuse to ever let them leave the house.

There is a balance to make between safety and freedom that you are being willfully ignorant of.

13esq ,

Oh fuck off. I really can't be bothered to argue with someone so willfully ignorant of the point I'm making.

13esq ,

Brilliant comment!

This thread is for debate. No one cares that you disagree with me personally unless you actually have a point to make.

13esq ,

If you want someone to engage you in debate, you should probably attempt a more personable writing style. Until then, have a lovely life!

13esq ,

We should consider the centuries of persecution by humans and the severe habit loss.

13esq ,

You're still not understanding or being willfully ignorant of the point I'm making.

If your kid never leaves the house then they will not die in a road traffic accident. I can't put it more simply than that.

I'm not talking about constant supervision.

13esq ,

You know you can set channels to "not interested" and "don't recommend channel", right?

13esq , (edited )

It's a shame that your first thought is for physical violence. You must be quite emotionally immature.

Edit: I guess this is just a joke that went over my head

13esq ,

We're clearly doing something different because I never get Mr Beats recommend.

13esq ,

How many people have you murdered so far?

13esq ,

What a lovely young man!

AI cameras being set up on highways to catch drivers who throw trash out of their car windows::The decision to install cameras in UK lay-bys aims to prevent littering but one campaign group described the approach as "meaningless."

13esq , (edited )

If you were going to consider the UK monarchy in it's most recent form, you'd go back to the Norman invasion of 1066 and King William the Conqueror.

Most of the big land owners in the UK to this day can be traced back to the Norman conquest.

If you were going to consider the UK in its modern parliamentary form, you'd go back to the English civil war (1642-1651) where Oliver Cromwell overthrew King Charles I.
