It's not so much that I think mine will be the one to rise from the ashes, it's that I'm willing to chance it and just see what happens

A_Very_Big_Fan ,

I wanna play Doom on it

A_Very_Big_Fan ,

Yea but I'm pretty sure it's just the models lol. But to me it sounds like a good excuse to put all those coding classes I took in highschool to use and make a renderer that'd support hardware like this...

A_Very_Big_Fan ,

It sucks to lose work, but this is clearly a user error.

Didn't wanna say it but yeah, 100%.

Also I was kinda suspicious of the simultaneous claim that the PC randomly restarted and LO crashed. And there's no recovery file. But that's probably just me. For all the faults Windows has, failing to catch programs with unsaved work when restarting isn't one of them I've ever experienced.

Tbf I'm sure this is an unpaid version of some online LLM, you can only expect so much lol.

When I use GPT3.5 for things like finding specific quotes from famous books, it's excellent... but asking it to play chess gives you blatantly illegal moves. Then GPT4 kicks my ass in chess.

A_Very_Big_Fan ,

Steve Lehto speculated they might have done it just to get the program off the air when he covered this story. He also mentioned the equipment would sell for practically nothing, so it was probably motivated more by the financial damages the station would incur than what they'd be able to sell the equipment for.

I'm inclined to believe him as someone who worked in 6 radio stations across his lifetime

OpenAI wants to raise 5-7 trillion dollars. Yes, Trillion (decrypt.co)

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is in talks with investors, including from the United Arab Emirates, to raise between $5 trillion to $7 trillion in funding. The goal, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal, is to increase the world's chip manufacturing capacity and enhance AI capabilities....

A_Very_Big_Fan ,

I, too, would like 5-7 trillion dollars

A_Very_Big_Fan ,

Drugs!

I'd probably give Louis Rossman and the institute for justice a trillion each. Rossman would use it to lobby for the Right to Repair movement, and the IFJ would use it to get rid of blatantly unjust legislation like civil asset forfeiture.

Donating a billion to GDQ while they're live would be pretty funny

A_Very_Big_Fan ,

He works for a non-profit organization as a Right to Repair lobbyist, so idk what you're on about. You'd already know this if you did any research beyond what you probably heard on Twitter.

If you think he's "greedy" for using his AdSense and MacBook repair money to create tutorials/Wikis for circumventing anti-repair measures and spreading awareness about unethical tech practices, idk what to tell you.

A_Very_Big_Fan ,

The ego at work, ladies and gents

A_Very_Big_Fan ,

You started belittling that guy as soon as you couldn't back up your accusation. That's literally what the ego does lol

They actually do this? Isn't one of the intended activities tracking down people trying to sell cars and destroy them before they get to the destination???

    A_Very_Big_Fan ,

Put it all the way to the left with the foot facing up. Gotta build for the next Tetris somehow

    A_Very_Big_Fan ,

OP didn't say general intelligence. LLMs mimic what actually intelligent beings do, AKA artificial intelligence.

Claiming AGI is the only "real" AI is like claiming Swiss army knives are the only "real" knives. It's just silly.

    A_Very_Big_Fan , (edited )

    ...yeah dude. Hence artificial intelligence.

There aren't any cherries in artificial cherry flavoring either 🤷‍♀️ and nobody is claiming there is

    A_Very_Big_Fan ,

Nobody is claiming there is problem solving in LLMs, and you don't need problem solving skills to be artificially intelligent. The same way a knife doesn't have to be a Swiss army knife to be called a "knife."

    A_Very_Big_Fan ,

Buddy, nobody ever said it would

    Keep seething

    Keep projecting

    A_Very_Big_Fan ,

He said AI, not LLMs specifically.

    A_Very_Big_Fan ,

There's a lot more to intelligence and sentience than just problem solving. One of them is recalling data and effectively communicating it.

    A_Very_Big_Fan ,

The comment you replied to first said "AI", not "LLMs". And he even told you himself that he didn't mean LLMs.

I'm not saying he's right, though, because afaik AI hasn't made any noteworthy progress made in medical science. (Although a quick skim through Google suggests there has been). I'm just saying that's clearly not what he said.

    A_Very_Big_Fan ,

I just realized I interpreted your comment backwards the first time lol. When I wrote that I had "people don't have issues with problem solving" in my head

The top right panel is borderline incomprehensible

    A_Very_Big_Fan Mod ,

    I'm nervous about growing tiddies. What if they're really big and inconvenient ;-;

    A_Very_Big_Fan Mod ,

I wouldn't say "preach" but I do have conservative friends that openly tell me that being gay or trans is wrong. (I'm trans, and they know this). I'd love it if they kept that shit in the privacy of their own homes

    A_Very_Big_Fan Mod ,

Conservatism is a choice! And it's arguably the wrong one

    A_Very_Big_Fan Mod ,

To be fair it rarely comes up, and they're not really judging me over it. It's just shit like complaining about pronouns. Or if we're talking about religion they're usually pretty clear that they don't think I'm disgusting or anything, they're just holding to what they think is biblical.

But it does kinda feel bad knowing that they'd vote away my right to HRT in a heartbeat

    (@rambling_lunatic also)

The difference between 35% and 60% isn't insignificant...

I mean you're not wrong about emotional maturity but the less years you've been alive, the less time you've had to emotionally mature

George Carlin Estate Files Lawsuit Against Group Behind AI-Generated Stand-Up Special: ‘A Casual Theft of a Great American Artist’s Work’ (variety.com)

George Carlin Estate Files Lawsuit Against Group Behind AI-Generated Stand-Up Special: ‘A Casual Theft of a Great American Artist’s Work’::George Carlin's estate has filed a lawsuit against the creators behind an AI-generated comedy special featuring a recreation of the comedian's voice.

    A_Very_Big_Fan ,

Take a Taylor Swift song. Sing on top of it.

We've shifted the goalpost from splicing together her entire discography to singing on top of a song. Neither of which is what AI does, or what that channel did with Carlin's work.

A person who cannot read would not be able to differentiate

A person who can't read or hear. If you can't understand the narrator telling you for nearly a full minute that this is not George Carlin's work then you can't understand the next hour of the video that uses his voice anyways.

    A_Very_Big_Fan ,

Impressionists have nothing to do with this. If I scraped all Beyonce's videos, cut it up and join it into another video, and called it "Beyonce: resurrected", I'm not doing am impression. I'm stealing someone's work and likeness for commercial purposes. Are you sad that your garbage generator is just a plagiarism machine?

Actually cutting it up into another video makes it transformative and it's protected under the DMCA. Thank you for proving you don't know what you're talking about. Take care.

Sure mate. You try selling a copy of it. Likewise. You're either too dumb or stubborn to even google what "transformative work" is. Typical "AI" techbro.

Then I point you to the mountains of monetized, copyrighted and most importantly transformative YTP videos... and all of the sudden your new example is

Take a Taylor Swift song. Sing on top of it. Try selling it with the name "Taylor Swift - I'm Not Dead"

Which is a copyright violation, and still not how the Carlin vid was made. But yeah...not shifting goalposts.

Making your examples more irrelevant and "dumbed down" isn't going to convince anyone. But maybe you're not even trying to convince anyone. If you want to make a convincing argument, tone down the vitriol and seething, and just talk about how this vid was actually made and how this actually constitutes a copyright violation.

    A_Very_Big_Fan ,

Ladies and gentlemen, the ego at work

    A_Very_Big_Fan ,

You started at "all these things that aren't analogous or comparable to AI violate copyright" and never strayed from that 🤔 but ok bud

This thread didn't need any more AI hysteria, but it's your prerogative to tap out before talking about how AI actually works or how the Carlin vid was actually made

    A_Very_Big_Fan ,

Not trying to be glib but

Not at all, I think this is the most valid take in the whole thread.

Personally I don't think automating the process should have all that much of an effect on whether or not it infringes on copyright, but I definitely see where you're coming from. I can see that being a big point of contention in courts if/when they try to sort this stuff out.

    A_Very_Big_Fan ,

Is there something wrong with being cute and being male?

No, but it might remind someone who's transmasc about traits that give them dysphoria, or if they're trying not to appear cute it might make them feel like they're doing a bad job

    A_Very_Big_Fan ,

For the last 3 years he's been saying it's no longer possible to be successful financially doing what he does. He did used to say that, though, because at one point it was true.
