It would be funny if true.
Sadly the reality is me calling with a client because this one single PC refuses to apply the damn GPOs... :(

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I would like to. Sadly there are programs on it that can be reinstalled and configured by the respeonsible 3rd party but are still annoying.
The best: No other pc has trouble applying the damn gpo.
Even the DNS resolutiom seems to work on this shit thing... :|

I have tried to narrow down the cause of the issue. Since I wasn't successful I ultimately escalated the ticket to my colleague and communicated to the client that if they can't narrow it down either, we will ultimately have to do that.
Not a pretty way to resolve the issue but sometimes it is like it is :/

My ultimate goal with every ticket is to not just close the problem but to resolve the root cause for the long term. But that (sadly) clashes with the amount of resources a client is willing to spent.
Solve the issue within 5min that arises every 10 days or so or solve the issue with 2 hours spent on troubleshooting and eliminating the issue

Roku has patented a way to show ads over anything you plug into your TV (arstechnica.com)

A patent application from the company spotted by Lowpass describes a system for displaying ads over any device connected over HDMI, a list that could include cable boxes, game consoles, DVD or Blu-ray players, PCs, or even other video streaming devices. Roku filed for the patent in August 2023 and it was published in November...

(Right now) I am jappy with my GOOGLE Chromecast with Android TV.
I enabled the App only mode and just watch Youtube and Jellyfin on it.
Besides youtube showings ads I have not seen any other in app only mode (though I believe the start screen has a banner though I am not sure as I automatically ignore it and launch my app).

Not like any other app store does take 30% except for some high volume games/publishers.
Apple does the same. Hell they seem to have custom rules for each of the app devs (according to Linus and Luke from LTT: I believe this clip contains most of it. They recently talked about it again. Essentially they developed the app payment like Netflix. Apple said "No, that's against our rules" and refused the submission of the update. Meanwhile Netflix supposedly still had the same communication for a long time.)

Same goes with Google and probably a number of other external stores.
Amazon seems to take up to 20% depending on the item (Source: sell.amazon.com/pricing.

At least Steam does provide a forum, community features and the update framework and infrastructure.
Personally I would be happy to take the offering over maybe needing to host and maintain the tech stack myself.
Now mind you, maybe some other dev would rather do it themself and maybe wish to opt-out of the ecosystem. That is totally valid.

(Warning/Disclaimer: I only heard about that. I do not have first hand experience!) Apple for example takes a percentage for processing a payment and offers an invoicing system. Some may like that. Others could maybe negotiate a better deal with another provider and maybe even offer tools that integrate better with their existing accounting and ERP software.

If you market your game better it can "survive" outside of steam as well. I didn't hear about Ready or Not having funding issues. They didn't even announce a Steam release when they started their funding campaign.
It may result in less sales because users have to download and update the game manually. Can't deny that assumption but it's not a mandatory thing to publish on steam...

Epic could compete. But I believe they did their approach too forcefully.

I personally refuse to use EGS because I don't like how they approached the market by starting this exclusive war on PC. I wished they kept that to consoles only. If they did a co-release on both Steam and EGS but offer a consistent 10€ discount compared to Steam I'd be more open to it instead.

This in addition to Tencent (and by that extent the chinese gov) have a ~40% of shares of the company. That's a considerable amount of foothold. And I vote with my wallet by not giving them more of my data.
I have to mention though, that I have an EpicGames account and have played Fortnight as well as use and play UE-games and tried out the UE-engine. But I have the option in life to not give them more.

A German state is ditching Windows and Microsoft Office for Linux and LibreOffice on the 30,000 PCs it uses for local government functions (www.theregister.com)

Schleswig-Holstein, Germany's most northern state, is starting its switch from Microsoft Office to LibreOffice, and is planning to move from Windows to Linux on the 30,000 PCs it uses for local government functions....

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Meanwhile another german city (munich) is going back to MS

but maybe with the increased user base it can become one.

You think the state will contribute? I highly doubt that. At best it will be gov specific functionalities.

Producing documents or e-mails can't be that functionally different, right?

If you do complicated stuff in docx and then try open it in something like Libre the formatting will be interpreted differently.

German history class is as much as a lottery as anywhere else.
Didn't really enjoy English class until my I got my last teacher for the remaining 3 years.
Same for Maths: I did not enjoy it but she explained it so well I got a solid B in my finals.

The following teachers were basically trash in comparison to motivating me.

So in essence: It usually depnds on the teacher.

I did order the 4800+.
I have no need for the Ugreen OS and will replace it.
Every report I have read about say that the hardware looks very good for the (kickstarter) price

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

You can. But you need to circumvent the default settings and deactivate the watchdog in the UEFI.
There are already guides out there by reviewers. Youtube review about the NAS and how they replace the OS (around 11:00min)

@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

If Synology decides to not support your NAS it can't even load anything else.
Synology dexided for the DS218j (or DS220j) that it suddenly can't use BTRFS anymore. If I remember it correctly it was due to not having enough memory.
But that was only after the upgrade to DSM 7.x
Yet I see only confused posts on the web instead of rage and "I wont bzy Synology anymore".

I can easily ride my bike at 25-30km/h on flat even surface.
Light hills are more difficult on the long run but I can probably manage 20km/h.

Edit:
A relative worked in the ER so I have some ideas why e-bikes are maybe more prone to accidents. My theory: Older folks.
The usual demographic driving e-bikes usually are/were +50 years old.
With reflexes being not what they were and them going out more due to being mobile again, they surely are more prone to be involved in traffic accidents.

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Maybe in NL.
On my bike commute (about 4km one-way) lightly down hill I can easily reach 30km/h.
Uphill the same route (depending on how fit I am) I can more or less pull 25km/h through.

Though I am not in a busy city. I would probably get killed with the way I am driving where I live.

7th gen i5 business laptops already had hardware TPMs included.
So I'd guess this is either a heavily business sided feature or most OEM machines (not DIYs motherboards or systemintegrators just buying off-the-shelve hardware in bulk!) like the ones from HP, Dell, Lenovo probably had those fpr whatever reason as well.

For those argumenting like that it does. It's obvious neurotoxins and carginogens are the same.
