25% less revenue is 25% revenue lost. I don't think the shareholders would welcome that.

And that is why I criticized the decisions every time I read about it. Every time I got mixed responses but ultimately got a higher downvote ratio.
Also a reason I participate(d) in the archive warrior reddit project.

Can be automated. Creating a new e-mail account is more annoying.

What's a good NAS and server system under CAD$900 (USD$658)?

I am currently using an old laptop (circa 2015) with a 250GB SSD in it, and 4GB of RAM. It runs Fedora 39 Server, and only hosts a Jellyfin instance through Docker right now (though I want to use Nextcloud later too). There is only 15GB of storage left on it, and the CPU is constantly overloaded (due to forced transcoding). I...

@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Currently ugreen has released some nas systems that seem powerful but have yet to be shipped (reviews are out though).

I got the surprise treatment.
Saw the announcement on the telegram channel (I use the app exclusively for notifications by my services) and noticed that my watchtower container already upgraded it :p

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Now we only need it in the AndroidTV app. Then I'd be 100% happy (basically 95% with the app atm) :)

I would assume that the amount of people working in the IT-sector far outweighs any other job occupation.

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

LTT mentioned some time ago on the Wanshow about how gaking away is destroying more goodwill than adding new stuff only to the premium tier.
This is probably why most are so worked up about the issue.

Appoxo ,

Too bad (for me) it doesnt have most of my library.

Added a new link.
Last time I tried adding the torrent the magnet of OP also failed me. Dunno if it has to do with the client or aomething.

Hardware manufacturers hate this trick to multiply devices.

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Don't consume stuff over your device?
I have several bottles on my desk but if I eat or drink messy things near my keyboard, I place a towel over it.

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

When I shop stuff on yahoo.jp I get blocked by Google due to the VPN I utilize to connect to Japan.
At least Google allowed me to still access it.
But I use a free VPN so whatever.

At this moment Aegis is far superior to bitwarden auth. But it looks promising.
I really like the ability to "sideload" the icons for the codes and automatic encrypted backups to cloud storages.

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

For now: Nothing. Pretty bare metal atm.

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Not yet.
No icons, no ability to save notes, a URL or back it up in an encrypted json.
I will definitely keep an eye on it though.

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

For 10€ a year I will pay for a feature I don't even use voluntarily.
Just because the app is great and works really well with multi accounts.

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

So is Bitwarden? Even more so if it's selfhosted?

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

personell doesmt matter as it's zero knowledge?

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

And seemingly reading beyond the headline is also not your thing.
This is a separate app unconnected to your bitwarden account...

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

For now: No.

I supply mine with fake info with the google rewards app :p
I answered the question as if I was a mother (am not and male) of 4 children, which has higher education, is into tech and fashion, has 4 children and a house.
So far I made 29,30€ in total in Play Store cash. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sadly some of the funds lapse after some time but I have used it for smaller apps and such.

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It just not stores the session >_> Nothing was ever fully incognito about it beyond the icon looking like a spy.
Also it's made by Google. Not much of a surprise.

Now for Firefoy I would be interested.

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Even then there would be at least that someone that would refuse it or would only sell out for (example) 1 billion €.

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Why does it matter? The devs make the program not the investor.

The only reason I would refuse the tech was if the investor would try to change the direction of development or is giving out money from questionable sources...

You can alao invest without influencing?

Appoxo , (edited )
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

What I personally use and what I plan to do. Maybe it's worth something for you:

Currently in production:

  • Intel Nuc 11th gen i5-1135G7 wirh 8gb single Sodimm
  • Storage: 8TB external hdd via USB 3.0
  • OS: Debian with OMV6
  • Jellyfin running in docker. Media is organized with the *arr suite

HW transcoding is fine for single 4K HDR -> 1080p but I probably misconfigured something and it could be better or the linuxserver container is bad.
Don't care enough to fix it :p

Planned in the future:

  • Ugreen DX4800+ NAS as NFS or iSCSI storage with 8-10TB of Raid1 (for now) storage.

Btw: This is my hardware (literal) stack :)

local cloudflare alternative

hi is there any local cloudflare alternative becourse from my reading it seems that that using it for jellyfin is against cloudflares TOS and i would like to get jellyfin to my domain but i dont wanna pay for it, so a loxal alternative would probably be my best bet, i also would prefer not to open any ports

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Don't proxy jellyfin through CF.
Using it for the domain or subdomain is fine.

You know it's not proxied because the cloud is gray instead of yellow.
And if you ping the domain it's your own IP instead of a cloudflare ip.

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Do it with a reverse proxy and set 2FA before it (and break native app functionaility).

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Set proper ACLs and you are probably fine.

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Nope. It's doable and permitted as long as the traffic is not proxied (gray cloud)

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

My forecast is lovely...

You got the wrong application. Since other users already mentioned plenty of alternatives this comment is also redundant and can be ignored.

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I mean you can kinda do it with one way syncs (e.g. read only shares and give a friend the code so they can connect to it).

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

You just called a woman

Gender doesnt matter right now. You could be an alien for what I care.

with a master’s degree in a STEM field, dumb.

In that case you are a professional educated type of dumb ;)
In Germany we have the saying "Fachidiot". Doesnt really apply here but the term is funny.

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

He... give it a Go. ;)

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yaml is better.
But it has a dashboard.

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Juat an error due to the swarmRefresh setting in the traefik.yml.
Because I am not running in swarm mode it threw an error.
Oh well. Life and learn ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yeah...I should be doing it but I am honestly too lazy to change my compose.
The only place I actually did it is my mongodb container bexause I know absolutely nothing about it.
At lwast I can rescue my traefik config :p

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Huh?
4x 30€ is not 150€ on my calculator (DDR4 RAM I bought for my Intel NUC which I use as my server)

Now if we talk about DDR5, 2x 16GB, ECC and registered Kits...That might fit.
The kit I bought was 148€ in April 2023. Even now it's 125€.
And it's not really an isolated case of cheap ram...

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I ran about 10 orb12 docker containers on my raspverry pi with 4gb of ram + Debian (and OMV5).
Red lined the thing plenty of times.

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Wouldnt bother with Gen8. We literally throw them in the e-waste recycle bin.
Either get a Gen9 if tight with cash (also EOL) or Gen10 servers which are currently supported and get current updates.

Appoxo ,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Not the cores but you can get 2x16gb sodimms for something like an Intel (now Asus) NUC. But that won't be cheap lol.
Dunno if there are 2x32gb kits but maybe some higher end mini-pc has 4 bank ram or even full length dimms.
