AtariDump ,

The one right before the pandemic was good.

AtariDump ,

Core2Quad?

That thing is a space heater that can do some math.

AtariDump ,

I used to until I realized that I’ve got bigger threats to worry about.

And like someone else mentioned, if I have to do data recovery for some unknown reason I want to make sure the data’s not encrypted.

AtariDump ,

I miss the pebble and fsck Fitbit for killing it.

AtariDump ,

Agreed. Kinda glad I didn’t back the third watch.

AtariDump , (edited )

Not in dreams, no sirre!

AtariDump ,

Is that a scale so you can weigh your gas?

AtariDump ,

In another thread someone said they carry a sharpie marker with them and label the button(s) you need to press to mute the audio for future people.

AtariDump ,

Took me a minute but when I heard it I can’t unhear it.

Roku has patented a way to show ads over anything you plug into your TV (arstechnica.com)

A patent application from the company spotted by Lowpass describes a system for displaying ads over any device connected over HDMI, a list that could include cable boxes, game consoles, DVD or Blu-ray players, PCs, or even other video streaming devices. Roku filed for the patent in August 2023 and it was published in November...

Roku explores taking over HDMI feeds with ads (www.lowpass.cc)

Roku is exploring ways to show consumers ads on its TVs even when they are not using its streaming platform: The company has been looking into injecting ads into the video feeds of third-party devices connected to its TVs, according to a recent patent filing.  ...

I'm making a list
and checking it thrice
Gonna ban IPs
and all major sites
The In-ter-net isn’t what it used to be.

Jayjo , to Selfhosted

@selfhosted strange problem. I have a raspberrypi as vpn gateway. I have a reolink cctv. It emails me when motion. If i use openvpn, it works fine. If i use wireguard, it does not work. If i connect to the vpn gateway on my laptop, openvpn and wg forward the laptop traffic fine. The openvpn and wg is connects to the same commerical vpn service.

AtariDump ,

Are you using FQDNs (Full Qualified Domain Names)? WireGuard doesn’t resolve FQDNs.

AtariDump ,

So the Pi connects to a commercial VPN?

AtariDump ,

Try taking pieces out until you narrow down the issue.

IE: bring a WG tunnel up direct between your phone and home without the commercial VPN. Keep adding layers back in until something breaks.

AtariDump ,

Wait, do you have an issue when you go out where people always shout?

AtariDump ,

Because I can’t power an N100 via PoE.

AtariDump ,

Is there an intel/amd/x86_64 computer I can power via PoE?

AtariDump ,

Though I don't see the point in powering a home server over PoE.

There’s a lot of technology I don’t see the point in; it doesn’t mean it’s not useful to somebody else.

AtariDump ,

Neat, and agreed that the price is probably stupid money.

With that in mind, it’s why I like the Pi for smaller projects - I can power them via PoE.

AtariDump ,

It used to be that you could leave airdrop on for everyone at all times.

Then China wanted to crack down on dissidents so Apple changed it to “Everyone… but one for 15 minutes”. Apparently it then made it’s way to ALL iPhones so now you can’t have any airdrop fun anymore.

AtariDump ,

Because I liked playing the random meme airdrop game. 99% of the time being in the receiving end.

On a more serious note, it allows people to freely transfer information between each other in a method that can’t be controlled by a firewall / government / etc.

AtariDump ,

I get that and I’ve been there, but it sounds like you have an existing homelab that can do most of what someone else might do with a broken laptop.

What ideas did you have?

And recycle it could mean wipe the drive and donate it to someplace that will recondition it and give it to someone who needs a computer for school/work but can’t afford one.

AtariDump ,

Got it.

Then do what you’re thinking about doing with it :)
