Bernie Sanders: It’s time for a 4-day work week | CNN Opinion (www.cnn.com)

The wealthiest people in this country have never had it so good. While income and wealth inequality in the United States is soaring, more than 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, we have one of the highest rates of childhood poverty among major countries on Earth, and more than 650,000 people are homeless....

I love my 4-day workweek. My company still gets 40 hours of work out of me each week (minus mandatory breaks) and I get a bit of overtime on some of those hours. Better still, two people can cover an entire day, whereas three were needed back when we worked 8 hour shifts.

And yet, half of my website is hosted on Azure Storage. That little unsolicited remark about Microsoft's valuation at the bottom is clearly the result of smoking too much copium by the biased author.

Can confirm that Windows Server is taught in school IT programs, and can confirm that Windows Server is still being used for both Active Directory and on-premises virtualization (Hyper-V). I interned at a large international organization with networks on 6 continents and it was moving its server infrastructure back to its own datacenters because of rising costs of cloud hosting. It used Hyper-V on Windows Server to host every thing.

She could donate a life-changing amount of money to every Fediverse user and still have more left over than she knows to do with.

I went to my Glassdoor account and the only place I could see my name was in the community part, where people ask questions of other professionals. Some users still seemed to have their names hidden, so it must be possible to do so. My company reviews are still anonymous.

I honestly can't find any evidence that what the media are saying is happening is actually happening. I feel gaslit tbh lol

BaldProphet ,
@BaldProphet@kbin.social avatar

Lol not sure why the somewhat gratuitous character attack there, but whatever.

BaldProphet ,
@BaldProphet@kbin.social avatar

"The media" is a common term in American English that refers to mainstream news outlets. I said I felt gaslit because the early headlines and articles on this topic suggested that names were made visible, not that they were merely added to accounts.

Regardless, there is no call for personal attacks. I'm sure you can find the maturity to respond to comments you disagree with in ways that don't involve attacking the users who post them.

Perhaps there is a tonal message in your words that you didn't intend (your native language seems to be German?). This paragraph comes across as dismissing my comment while making a sweeping, inaccurate, and baseless judgment that I "distrust any media that contradicts my beliefs:"

But by you talking about “the media” I guess you are trying to find reasons to further your already present distrust in any media that contradicts your beliefs?

Hard to see how that couldn't be meant as, at best, a passive-aggressive dig, implying some level of instability or paranoia.

US companies != US federal government

BaldProphet ,
@BaldProphet@kbin.social avatar

No, you're misunderstanding. The Chinese government has significantly more influence and power over Chinese companies than the US federal government has over US companies. People are acting like both are the same, but they are not.

BaldProphet ,
@BaldProphet@kbin.social avatar

You're also misunderstanding. I won't deny that US companies seek profit wherever they can, even from unethical sources. I also don't doubt their involvement with law enforcement and intelligence agencies. But a company seeking profit through a partnership with the United States federal government is not the same as the totalitarian Chinese government requiring oversight of Chinese companies.

It might not seem like a big difference to you, but it's an important one to me.

BaldProphet ,
@BaldProphet@kbin.social avatar

Yeah okay. Your far-left talking points aren't convincing me and are definitely making your point harder to parse.

Sounds like a bit of a desperate reach to attach the EEE label to this.

BaldProphet ,
@BaldProphet@kbin.social avatar

To be honest, it just sounds like you have an unnecessary chip on your shoulder.

BaldProphet ,
@BaldProphet@kbin.social avatar

I would. Some things are really enjoyable to do, and can earn you money. Whether or not the things you enjoy doing pay enough to cover rent is another problem entirely.

The real problem with that Guardian piece is the insistence on perpetuating a superficial identity marker well past its expiration date. Why do we keep breathing life into the dead horse that is racism? Let it die along with the aging population of people who grew up when it was still cool to think that race exists.

They're cliches that only apply to affluent boomers.

Is Framework actually "good" for the industry?

Framework as in the laptop company, just for clarity. https://frame.work/. For those unaware, the idea is that these are laptops built with a high degree of modularity so that you can replace far more than a single stick of SODIMM with the goal of even upgrading your CPU and mainboard a few years down the line....

BaldProphet ,
@BaldProphet@kbin.social avatar

The GPU module is actually an industry standard created by... Dell, I think? So that, at least, is technically non-proprietary.

Either way, Framework has been open about specs and has encouraged a cottage industry of third party bespoke mods and modules for its laptops. I wouldn't worry to much about that.

@ernest @melroy
lol this whole conversation is a microcosm of the open source community. I agree with ernest that forks are great and would add that they show that the open source system is working as intended.

Ernest said he didn't introduce bad code on purpose:

I assure you that I didn't intentionally push incorrect code into the repository. These were my first lines of code in a really long time. I simply got involved in other things that I wanted to finish first, and I noticed the edge case in the meantime, but it wasn't a priority.
