Blackmist ,

The good old Arr Stack is worth looking into.

Radarr (movies), Sonarr (TV), Prowlarr (for finding things), Bazarr (if you're in the subtitles gang, but most newer rips already contain it), VPN (to keep out nosey lawyers).

Only the VPN costs money, and it may be optional depending on where you are.

Blackmist ,

I know the nVidia Shield doesn't have it, and I'm not replacing that any time soon.

Blackmist ,

Over h264 sure, but h265? Hardly worth it for me.

Blackmist ,

I suspect it is the case.

The issue doesn't seem to be the Fediverse itself, rather the fact that images uploaded to Lemmy are handled in a separate program that isn't linked to it in a way you can delete from by just deleting posts. The images aren't marked as owned by you, so can't be deleted again. You'd need some way of storing those image deletion tokens against your account, so you can manage them yourself and be able to delete them again.

And this would have to include images that you uploaded and didn't make a post about. As far as I can tell they're just left there on the server forever. Not even sure if it tells you which user uploaded it, although it might log by IP address. I haven't looked too deeply into the code but there's potential for abuse there.

Blackmist ,

The images aren't federated afaik. They live on your home instance. If somebody else views them, they're loaded directly from there.

However there's no link between the images and your account. You can't delete them yourself because Lemmy doesn't store the "delete token". They're effectively orphaned.

Blackmist ,

Just assume anything you post here will be scraped by Facebook, Google, Amazon, the CIA and the CCP, regardless of what the Lemmy devs and admins let you do with your data.

It's a public forum. Once you post something there's no guarantee it will ever be gone.

Blackmist ,

I did check a few embedded images, and they still seemed to be served from the original. So I dunno. Maybe they're copied and still served from the original, which would be an odd thing to do.

Blackmist ,

Fuck everything, we're doing seven blades.

Blackmist ,

The real question is what is Roku doing that might necessitate a jury trial in the first place.

The answer is spying and selling all your data to advertisers. Using ACR they can tell everything passing through that box and display adverts accordingly. Just what you want when watching a DVD.

Blackmist ,

But if he's watching the porn on a Roku TV, they'll know what porn it is and what to recommend next.

Blackmist ,

I'm interested to see what comes of Sony adding PC support to the PSVR2.

If it just drops right into SteamVR I might pick one up.

Blackmist ,

Days you should book off as a developer:

Feb 29th. Clocks go forward day. Clocks go back day.

If you've done anything with dates or scheduling, these days will fuck it.

Blackmist ,

It hit 40 in the UK a few years back, and I spent the whole day dying. Fucking horrible.

Blackmist ,

Kit Kat's were in foil with a paper wrapper.

I bought some recently and was dismayed to see they were now in plastic as well.

Blackmist ,

It's Glasgow mate, you're not allowed to mix it with heroin.

Blackmist ,

So why is it rejected?

Just because they're still trying to use HDMI to prevent piracy? Who in fuck's name is using HDMI capture for piracy? On a 24fps movie, that's 237MB of data to process every second just for the video. A 2 hour movie would be 1.6TB. Plus the audio would likely be over 2TB.

I've got a Jellyfin server packed with 4K Blu-ray rips that suggest there are easier ways to get at that data.

Blackmist ,

I just use the trusty old Radarr stack to find them. Pulls from https://1337x.to/ https://thepiratebay.org/ and https://therarbg.to/ on my set up.

You have to get there early to have much chance of getting a full 60GB+ 4K Blu-ray rip in a timely manner, but the ~15GB x265 rips are indistinguishable to me.

Blackmist ,

I'll have to add them to the list.

Blackmist ,

Sure. But why bother when you can rip it right from the disc in higher quality than you could ever hope to capture in real time?

Blackmist ,

If your users don't get what you're trying to do, maybe try to do something better?

As far as I can tell this is a really nice and well built headset, with a great screen, but it doesn't actually do what all the other VR headsets do: Play VR games. Telling that even people already used to forking over large sums to Apple aren't really interested in paying $3500 to arrange iPhone apps around their living room.

Blackmist ,

There's a craze for plastic grass in the UK.

It looks awful and you won't even get flies, let alone anything useful. Getting dog shit out of them is a nightmare as well.

Blackmist ,

I can tell you from experience that if you neglect your garden for about 15 years, it does not look like that top one at all.

Blackmist ,

Yelling at other lefties for not being left enough is a long and proud tradition.

Blackmist ,

Thank you for demonstrating my point without the slightest hint of irony.

Blackmist ,

Have you lot just rebadged Libertarians?

Blackmist ,

OK, I agree that libertarians are not liberals. They are mostly conservatives who don't want to pay tax.

I'm still not following on why you don't think Liberals are Left wing.

Blackmist ,

So not what most people think of as "liberals" then.

Neoliberals are to liberals what National Socialists are to Socialists.

Take it back to the dictionary definition.

Liberal (noun)

  1. a supporter of policies that are socially progressive and promote social welfare.
  2. a supporter of a political and social philosophy that promotes individual rights, civil liberties, democracy, and free enterprise.

Going by the first definition, that's left. Even going by that second definition, I see three left policies and a right. That's essentially a lefty being not left enough.

Blackmist ,

So that's it, is it? I can support all the social progressiveness I like, but as soon as I balk at the prospect of an autocrat hosting a violent revolution and instating communism, I'm the enemy?

Here is the definition I run on: Anyone left of centre is left. Anyone reaching for the guillotines (or more likely just meming about them from a basement) is far left. So far left that they will never see power and see everyone right of them as an enemy.

Blackmist ,

You don't get to gatekeep leftism behind communism.

Blackmist ,

Some places seem to do this through a shitty app, that only gives discounts at unpopular times.

Of course it only does this like twice, so you never get any good deals once you've used it a few times. RIP Double Bacon XL for like £2. No way am I paying normal Burger King prices. There's a fucking Greggs next door you chimps!

Blackmist ,

Read that in Rhys Darby's voice by the end.

Blackmist ,

It really is telling that even Microsoft don't find it viable to maintain a browser engine.

The "standards" are an absolute fucking nonsense, and boil down to "just do what Chrome does because nobody can stop them".

Blackmist ,

I have to use Chrome for...

  1. Logging into PSN, since something in Firefox hard locks when I try it. I think it's to do with Firefox's password manager.

  2. VR porn.

  3. Some videos. Firefox doesn't support certain video types (namely HEVC/H.265) due to patent issues.

Blackmist ,

Firefox doesn't appear to support it. Chrome does.

At least on this site.

I think it's to do with WebXR support, but I'm not digging through 10 layers of bullshit JS to find out for certain.

Blackmist ,

Yeah, it's alright.

You can install an ad blocker in it, so it's automatically better than Chrome.

With that and a few cookie popup removers, it's almost like the web is usable again.

Maker uses Raspberry Pi and AI to block noisy neighbor's music by hacking nearby Bluetooth speakers (www.tomshardware.com)

Maker uses Raspberry Pi and AI to block noisy neighbor's music by hacking nearby Bluetooth speakers::Roni Bandini is using a Raspberry Pi to power his AI-driven assault against his neighbor's regular 9am reggaeton music.

Blackmist ,

Well as long as he's not got (1) written on his RPi, I'd say we're all good.

Blackmist ,

You have to use your hands? That's like a baby's toy!

Blackmist ,

"Privacy."

They keep using this word. I do not think it means what they think it means.

Blackmist ,

I don't think he's seen the absolute fucking drivel that most developers have been given as software specs before now.

Most people don't even know what they want, let alone be able to describe it. I've often been given a mountain of stuff, only to go back and forth with the customer to figure out what problem they're actually trying to solve, and then do it in like 3 lines of code in a way that doesn't break everything else, or tie a maintenance albatross around my neck for the next ten years.

Blackmist ,

Had a movie stop playing the other week (I use my PC as a Jellyfin server and watch on a Nvidia Shield in another room). I thought something had crashed, but when I went upstairs to check, it had realised nobody was watching it and fucking rebooted.

Blackmist ,

If it was only used as a server, then I would. But it isn't, so I don't.

Blackmist ,

True Detective season 2 might not be that great, but "the fundamental difference between the sexes is that one of them can kill the other with their bare hands" is a sentence that stuck with me.

Like it or not, one sex is, on average, in considerably more danger in a bad relationship than the other.

Blackmist ,

Plus he's got to find a load more guys called Tony.

Blackmist ,

But that would have cut into their enormous share of the profits. What kind of monster are you?

Blackmist ,

I can honestly say I've never used one. I looked at the prices, realised they were all jacked up before the delivery fees were added, and then just got it myself.

My local Chinese takeaway employs their own guy. I really don't know why we had to farm this problem out to silicon valley shysters.

Blackmist ,

Unfortunately he saved it as a JPEG 87 times in a row.
