Why is being a landlord any different than owning some other commodity to make money? Like if I bought shares of a company that pay a dividend. Or I bought a car and rented it out. Or buying land and selling tangerines I grew on it

Bye ,

Good. Kids don’t need cell phones, and they really are a huge distraction.

Safety standards caused passenger cars to get larger more than anything else (trucks got bigger because of weird fuel economy regulations).

Roll back safety standards and we can have small cars again. It’s probably worth the amount of excess deaths it will create, but someone should do a study.

Absolutely true, it’s why there aren’t any more fun pop up headlights, or hood ornaments.

Picking up my shit and moving to the EU, maybe northern Spain. I have zero idea how to buy housing there (I’m a citizen though) but a bit of uncertainty is better than the alternative.

Hahaha python

They don’t even have math in the base language, you have to import numpy to do basically anything.

I use mpv but the configuration is a big pain. Just try overriding a subtitle font in mpv, there are config files to change that don’t even exist by default and they live in different places depending on mpv version and it’s a huge mess.

I still do it because it’s lightweight and for some reason has better performance for me than VLC.

The day I learned that Linus shares my disdain for all things OOP was such a good day for me.

Bye ,

He’s not though, you should look into it

The censorship gets to me, too.

Try asking bing image creator to draw Jesus. Not a problem. Buddha, Ganesha, David and Goliath, Zeus, no problem. It will give you great depictions.

Now try asking it to draw the prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him. No joy.

Censorship.

Older Computer Programmers & Engineers

Lately, I was going through the blog of a math professor I took at a community college back when I was in high school. Having gone the path I did in life, I took a look at what his credentials were, and found that he completed a computer science degree back sometime in the 1970s. He had a curmudgeonly and standoffish...

I went to school in the early 90s and we didn’t really have IDEs. Just text editors with regular expression find and replace and syntax hi-lighting, none of this “show a semitransparent box with your functions arguments” stuff or linters or whatever.

I still don’t know how to use a modern IDE, I use sublime text. And I debug my code using print statements.

It still is defensible. I can quote a whole bunch of lines from “talladega nights” and “old school” verbatim. I can sing the entirety of “Amish paradise”, with close to 100% accuracy.

My recall ability does not mean that I’ve violated copyright.

Bye ,

Nope that was true when interest rates were low.

Now they care about the bottom line.

It can change again.

Are people downvoting this because you made a fair comparison between something they like (flipper) and something they don’t (guns)? Like are you being downvoted out of cognitive dissonance?

Holy shit I thought the 6.6 in my 2500 was huge, but imagine how much the block would weigh on an 8.3L. I mean at some point your front suspension gets absolutely crazy. Would be smart if they could make it a straight six though instead of a V8, way better balance characteristics and that’s why many of the big diesels have that layout.

Because it had worse margins than other cars they could be selling. Heard an interview with their CEO about this exact thing. Other vehicles make them more money so they are focusing there.

How is this different than gas stations looking at a price tracking app to set their prices? You know, the apps that show you what gas costs all over town. It’s just information, and they obviously make the choice to raise prices when theirs are low compared to peer competitors.

That doesn’t mean a gas station doesn’t charge less when it’s in an undesirable location, or charge more when it’s in a busy location. Same is true for housing.

I know everyone is pissed about the high cost of housing, but this case doesn’t really have merit. It’s not the horse to cheer for.

Bye ,

Thanks so much for the reply. I didn’t understand that it’s private; I figured it was just aggregating Zillow and Craigslist postings etc, which are public. If that isn’t the case, then yes I can see how it might be illegal.

Pretty sure it means accepting that you’re trans

And the blue pill symbolizes continuing to pretend to be someone else

Like the whole movie is a trans allegory, especially considering the creators.

Bye ,

Pretty sure in the old days, when there were fewer people, you could just fuck off into the forest and build yourself a cottage. If your feudal lord found out you’d be in trouble, but they didn’t have satellites or whatnot to track you down.

We have this weird unwritten assumption that the cost of technological advancement (esp medical) was our own domestication. That we sacrificed freedom and privacy for health and safety. I wonder if that’s really the case, or if it’s some bullshit post hoc justification
