PNG is fine for this. A palletized PNG on max compression would be smaller than the game and totally lossless unlike this. First you gotta take this image and map/quantize it to the original palette though to destroy the JPEG artifacts, which produce colors in between ones that would have existed in the game's output.

Obligate carnivores in nature. Why do you care if a cat is fed with fortified plant bits vs fortified animal bits? Neither product exists in nature and the cat can live a healthy life on both. Also breeding cats to be pets is completely unnatural, so why are you fine with that?

Floey ,

This is bullshit because pet food exists where the proteins are denatured because some animals have serious allergies. Animals can build the proteins they need from the constituent parts. There are surely proteins unique to cats, where do you think they get them, cannibalism? Are you saying veterinarians recommending such products are harming animals?

Also who said I have a cat companion, even if you were 100% correct about what constitutes neglect it would not apply to me. But you're obviously not engaging in good faith and just want someone to paint as a monster. What's really monstrous is we have an industry that brutally harvests billions of sentient creatures every year just to feed ourselves and other animals.

Floey ,

When you eat animals you give the market a financial incentive to breed and slaughter more animals, who inevitably have to eat a bunch of plants to grow. It's not that you eating a burger kills a cow, but you eating a burger helps make it financially sound and socially acceptable to murder cows for burgers.

Floey ,

Link to studies please.

Nobody is suggesting we feed cats tofu and spinach. The naturalistic argument and yelling "We don't know!" a bunch really only works if you are proposing we feed cats only raw meat from fresh kills, what they would eat in the wild. Pet food isn't a pet's natural diet, vegan or not, and it all has to be fortified.

I don't believe in such a naturalistic argument though. Humans are able (key word, able, most don't) eat healthier with modern diets. Why would we assume we can't develop food that is just as healthy or even healthier than an animal's natural diet?

This fear mongering is just beneficial to Altman. If his product is powerful enough to be a threat to humanity then it is also powerful enough to be capable of many useful things, things it has not proven itself to be capable of. Ironically spreading fear about its capabilities will likely raise investment, so if you actually are afraid of openai somehow arriving at agi that is dangerous then you should really be trying to convince people of its lack of real utility.

Floey ,

I didn't think it was a choreographed publicity stunt. I just know Altman has used AI fear in the past to keep people from asking rational questions like "What can this actually do?" He obviously stands to gain from people thinking they are on the verge of agi. And someone looking for a new job in the field also has to gain from it.

As for the software thing, if it's done by someone it won't be openai and megacorporations following in its footsteps. They seem insistent at throwing more data (of diminishing quality) and more compute (an impractical amount) at the same style of models hoping they'll reach some kind of tipping point.

Floey ,

You are paying for way more than the sum of the parts when you order a cocktail, I'm not really sure why you'd suddenly be concerned about doing so when it comes to a mocktail.

Floey ,

I'm the opposite. Usually listen to full albums and even if I really like one or two songs, if the album sucks otherwise I'm unlikely to listen to them much, if at all.

Floey ,

What's the good in this case?

Floey ,

Vegetarianism (or in his case pescetarianism) is not inherently reductionarian, so him saying he's become much more vegetarian isn't really meaningful without knowing how much of that land based meat was replaced with fish and cheese. Dairy comes from cattle or other ruminants, just like red meat. Fishing is ravaging the seas like agriculture is ravaging the land.

Floey ,

They aren't vegan judging by the crazy amount of cheese. Also you can eat an entirely plant based diet that is both high in protein and very cheap.

Floey ,

Needs more legumes, nuts and or seeds, maybe some starches and fruit.

Floey ,

Pretty much every whole food contains every essential amino acid, you just have to be careful with overeating certain grains like wheat and rice which are low in one or two specific aminos and overeating fruit which is low in protein in general. If you specifically want high protein you eat lots of legumes, nuts, and non starchy vegetables (especially dark leafy greens like spinach and kale). If you want really crazy protein go for stuff like tofu and other refined products.

Floey ,

Tofu should be cheaper than meat (like $2-3/lb, and maybe cheaper at Asian grocers), dehydrated soy products like TVP are even cheaper.

Beans and lentils are some of the cheapest foods available both by calorie and by gram of protein, this is doubly true if you get them dry.

Nuts can be expensive by weight, though they are very calorie dense. Peanuts and peanut butter are usually quite cheap, some stores might have cheap mixed nuts as well.

Leafy greens don't pack many calories but are fairly close to being just protein and fiber and also very nutritionally complete. They also aren't expensive, I regularly get bunches of kale for under $2 for example.

Bike lanes tend to be really dangerous. Better to bike with traffic on side streets and on busy streets you really want a separated bike path rather than a shared road.

Floey ,

You're doing free advertising for them so I'd say their campaign is potentially successful.

Floey ,

You're implying that you would have been a customer. Maybe they lose some current customers off such tactics but if their stuff is being reposted everywhere a lot more people are s hearing about the existence of the service who have never heard of it before, and some of those will be new customers. Obviously many will find it distasteful, but most weren't customers in the first place.

Floey ,

Demonstrably effective

Where's the logic in looking at something successful and picking a singular thing to be responsible? What seems more likely is you are looking for an idea you are attached to that exists adjacent to something successful. It's like a Mormon looking for successful Mormon CEOs to then claim the company's success is due to the Mormon work ethic. It's like how in Whiplash the Charlie Parker story is venerated and seen as explanatory by the characters.

This is a ridiculous argument when taken to the extreme. Say you have three bags. Bag A contains 100 blue marbles. Bag B contains 99 blue marbles and 1 red marble. Bag C contains 100 red marbles. You reach into a random bag and draw a red marble. You've only eliminated bag A. Would you say it is a 50-50 whether you are left with a bag now containing 99 blue marbles or 99 red marbles? No, the fact that you drew a red marble tells you something about the composition of the bag you drew from. The odds that you drew out of bag B is 1/101, the total number of red marbles in bag B divided by the total number of red marbles across all bags. The odds that you are dealing with bag C is 100x that.

Now let's say you have 4 bags. BB, BR, BR, and RR. You draw an R. There is a 50% chance you are dealing with bag 2 or 3 because together they contain 2 out of 4 R. There is also a 50% chance you are dealing with bag 4. So it is equally likely that you draw either color of marble if you take the remaining marble out of the bag you randomly selected despite there being twice as many BR bags as RR bags.

Criticism of China isn't necessarily sinophobic. However being particularly concerned that a Chinese automaker is doing something most US automakers do might be. Especially when you consider that on an individual level it is less of a concern for Chinese companies to be tracking you then US companies. If you live in the US then local companies will gladly turn over information to authorities or shut off features for some reason. And to be fair I also think it would be better for a Chinese person to use a foreign for similar reasons.

Floey ,

You know what has protein? Every whole plant food. You don't need a dedicated part of a meal that is high in protein when the whole meal contains protein.

Floey ,

Think this post confuses veganism and vegetarianism. Also it's chemicals all the way down. Those spices? Made of chemicals.

Those alternative burgers are actually pretty tasty but also very heavy because they are imitating beef. For American fare I'd generally prefer a sandwich with deli style meats made out of tofu or seitan, or a bean burger.
