I don't get the name calling.

I support Israel right to defend itself (and by logic, Hamas will defend as well), but fully acknowledge challenging the methods, actions and propaganda of each side.

This is a conflict, there is enough shit going around - we don't need to bring religion into this. Call out shit people, call out bias, and absolutely call out people who think they can hide behind religion.

And I can also argue that when you have a neighbor that launches soo many rockets across the border that you have one of the best and most expensive anti-rocket defenses in the world, that has proven in the last few day that it still exists, you won't stop until its gone.

This conflict exists because politicians and the intl community failed miserably - Rwanda level failed. I blame the UNSC personally.

As I've said in other comments before, I seriously hope that regardless of who you support, at the end of this conflict the acts above and beyond proportionality are thoroughly investigated, and I hope to see militants and politicians on both sides swinging in prison by the end of it.

Quick mental exercise - the conflict is suspended in the next 10 minutes, a "permanent ceasefire". Every aid truck is permitted in, Israel withdraws to their state, intl community is released.

Do you think Israel will go "we achieved everything we want to, Hamas is no longer a threat, let's disband our Iron dome, cease CMT, live our best lives".

Do you think Hamas will unify Palestine and usher in a new era of peace and stability, cease attacks on Israel because its not worth it, join the international community in rebuilding Palestine to be prosperous.

Do you think the intl community is shocked enough to never let this happen again?

While I agree on the statement of Hamas goals, we can't deny a number of Israeli politicians have said comparable things.

Assuming yes, I don't know if I'd call it ironic. Any group is just as capable as any other regardless of history.

And before you call me a genocide denier, there is a good reason I've reserved that statement at this stage. I wouldn't be surprised if that changes shortly.

I want to say yes, but also aware that legal definitions take a long time to work through. Current discussions by those much further in the know are "allegations" of genocide, "could amount" to genocide, "could lead to" genocide.

Are the flags there - absolutely. The hold out (as far as im aware) is the intent vs causality aspect. I suspect investigation will start to lean to intent existing.

While I get your understanding from my comment, I don't know if I'd call it both-sideism as much as I would neither is innocent. Either was quite capable of taking steps to stop this before it happened.

If it wasn't for the fact it had happened before in Ireland I would 100% say there is no way the differences could be reconciled to a permanent two-state solution - but clearly there must be a pathway to peace. Unfortunately I don't hold much confidence in it actually happening and more will continue to suffer because of it.

Doesn't work - this also eliminates any investment and repairs into a property that has already reached that cap. This is where you get slum lords and no future builds.

On the other hand, put in a mass government housing development program that is rent controlled and doesn't need to profit would both increase housing stock, improve investment in quality to attract tenants and lower rent prices.

Let's start with the fact we have 5% inflation in my country, down from ~8% as we push up interest rates and deliberately drive down GDP including to -0.2%.

Same, and discussed with my lecturers.

Especially 1st year business - we use the same text book as the last 10 years (just different versions), where nothing has really changed in the last 30 odd years, using the same template that runs through 600 odd students a year, where nearly every student uses the same easy three references that we used in class.

Its new to you, but no one is going to have an original idea or anything revolutionary in that assessment.

Tangently related- im a big fan of the easiest 10%. Effectively, the easiest 10% of change does just as much as the hardest 10%.

Want to use the dryer less? Big stuff on line, little stuff in the dryer. That kind of thing.

Chucking a solar panel on your roof gets you 10% of the way there in a weekend then forget about it for 5 years.

Different country, all our dryers and appliances run off mains power - 220v 10amp. The big issue is that they can't be mounted upside down, so we can't have one.

Because you put them above the washing machine, and flip them upside down so you can reach the buttons - its a space thing. They even have mounting brackets they come with and the front panel removes so you can turn it upright. I never did though, mine are upside down. But I don't care.

But yeah, means we can't use heat pump or condensation dryers unless you have extra space.

Top load washer, front load dryer. Its a lack of floor space - just uses the empty space above the washing machine. Out of one, into the next, towels over the shoulder to go on the line.

I never knew you could get stacking kits for heat pump dryers - just told that you can't flip them so have to be on the floor

Interesting we use Taylor swift as a discussion point on supply/demand for first year economics.

Effectively, there is a shortage of tickets vs demand so those at the higher end of the demand line can buy for ridiculous prices, everyone else misses out.

So they tried a lottery system - you get a ticket, if your number comes up you buy at a lower price as less people can now buy. Doesn't work because scalpers push in as well, then sell to those with a higher WTP, pocket the difference, price doesnt change and venue/her miss out.

So she tried a point system- buy her cd, follow on insta, join fan club, get points, higher points get early access to lower priced tickets, actual fans get tickets and not worth effort for scalpers. But she got hauled over the coals for turning it into a popularity contest and had to stop it.

And now here we are.
