Yeah, down with the violence of the state! Although, to prevent bad actors and armed gangs we do need to have some sort of militia to protect the vulnerable from the greedy and cruel, human nature being what it is. And to prevent said militia from turning into the very thing it was supposed to protect us from, we need some sort of oversight, preferably from a democratically elected body, that tells the militia how to act and prevent them from violating the rights of the people. Oh wait I just reinvented violence of the state hehe.

People in Somalia hearing that America has a 1.8% homelessness rate: "wow. Things are really just as bad over there."

LaLuzDelSol ,

No it's still definitely violence. Like, day to day, you try to use violence as little as possible but it is necessary for the laws of society to be backed by violence or people would ignore them. "Violence" doesn't have to refer to killing people, it means the use of force against somebody without their consent (killing them, arresting them, or evicting/exiling them).

The state we have right now in America and most of Europe is a community that decides how it wants to be policed (i.e. a democracy). Different jurisdictions make different policing decisions and have different outcomes, but they all follow that structure.

The point I was making was that any attempt by anarchists to "overthrow the state" is silly because the "state" will return in a new form as power reconsolidates. If you consider a recognized federal or state government to be a "state" but an armed "anarchist" militia that runs a city to not be a state, that's just a silly semantic argument.

LaLuzDelSol ,

Well yeah, that is the social contract. It's how society works.

LaLuzDelSol ,

There's a balance to be struck, I think most people myself included would benefit from more walking and standing but I remember reading that a study showed people who are on their feet all the time for work had more joint problems. Which isn't surprising.

LaLuzDelSol ,

Is it? It's just a forum it's not like he's asking the devs

LaLuzDelSol ,

Some aspects of it. "The voice" is basically jedi mind tricks. People that are attuned also get visions/senses of foreboding about the future. There's no telekinetic stuff as far as I know.

LaLuzDelSol ,

Man that's the weirdest thing too... like in what world is Russia remotely communist? They're not even socialist they're just a good old-fashioned fascist dictatorship.

LaLuzDelSol ,

You got a source for "the majority of Jews condemn Israel"? Idk what that means but Im sure it doesn't mean "the majority of Jews think Isreal has to go"

LaLuzDelSol ,

Isn't that exactly what Repubicans did with the election?

-Make a bunch of baseless claims of fraud

-"Look guys we need to do something, trust in the election process is low!"

LaLuzDelSol ,

No I get that, but this is different honestly. Look up rates of teenage depression/anxiety/suicide attempts, it's a stunning correlation with the advent of smartphones and social media. Millenials got out just in time.

LaLuzDelSol ,

Right but if everyone sends 16 petabtyes a month the internet would collapse. Data caps do absolutely work to reduce bandwidth on a network scale. Bandwidth is measured in mbps. Limit the Mb and you reduce the necessary bandwidth.

LaLuzDelSol ,

TikTok is very heavily influenced by the CCP and could be used to collect data from Americans (probably they already are). Not wanting your biggest geopolitical rival to harvest data from your citizens is pretty understandable.

LaLuzDelSol ,

At least the US government can't harvest US citizens social media data without a warrant (excepting all the patriot act stuff). But there is zero protection for your data from the CCP if it's on TikTok. That's understandably a pretty huge security concern. I can also understand China not wanting data from their citizens in the hands of American social media companies. Idk if any if it is good or bad but it's certainly common sense on a national level.

LaLuzDelSol ,

Nah that's not true. Neither part is true. Go out and give blood!

LaLuzDelSol ,

The enslavement of the Uighur people? I work for an American renewable energy company and a lot of contracts were disrupted by the US' Forced Labor Prevention Act. I suspect that the sudden jump in domestic Chinese installation is partially caused by Chinese exports being restricted by western nations.
