What gets me about this change is that it hurts enterprise more than anybody. I don't use chrome anymore for anything in my personal life, and haven't in several years now. However, it's the only browser I can use for work. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Lemonparty ,

There is absolutely nothing difficult to use in Firefox. If anything it's easier, as most of the settings aren't arbitrarily hidden to prevent you from changing them. There are also fewer bullshit settings because they aren't harvesting your data.

Lemonparty ,

So September 2025ish is when I need to decide which Linux distro to go with.

Lemonparty ,

For what it's worth I've had Google Fi for eight years. My bill has never increased, and we have unlimited data. I'm on a plan with my wife and her dad and we pay 167 per month for all three lines including insurance on two phones (12/month total). We are in an area with 5G coverage, it speed tests between 100-300 Mbps generally.

Sure they could kill it at any time but 🤷🏻‍♂️

Lemonparty ,

Now pretend your electric blower is actually a super loud and inefficient two stroke motor.

The movement of air isn't noisy, the motor is.

Lemonparty ,

Meanwhile pirating content and streaming it has never been easier. Jellyfin and private trackers ftw

Lemonparty ,

Idk what newsgroups are

Lemonparty ,

Mine can run it but requires reinstalling my entire OS because something in the bios wasn't enabled before it was installed. I mean...okay that's certainly a design choice but I'm 100% not doing that

Lemonparty ,

I don't think it would matter what it was, I'm not doing an entire OS reinstall to "upgrade" to an inferior experience. If it can't apply the update itself, it's not going on until it absolutely has to, and even then it's looking more likely to be Linux next boot install.

Lemonparty ,

It blows my mind how slow mine is now. I don't even use the UI really, I only switch between ps5 and my shield tv, but that switch takes SO LONG

Lemonparty ,

Yes, and it works better. They said over a year ago that wallet would replace GPay, and remind you that it will stop working basically anytime you open it. I'm all for shitting on Google but being upset over this is dumb.

Lemonparty ,

That's all well and good and fair, but this isn't new news is more my point. Google told everyone, every device, that they were switching to wallet and phasing out GPay over a year ago, in fact I'm almost positive it was when Android 13 released (we are on 14 now). Like the annoyance should've passed by now, you know?

Lemonparty ,

Idk I've never used it for anything other than tap to pay, and that was also true for gpay. I personally would recommend you use something that doesn't farm your data for transferring money anyway. Zelle is what most people prefer these days, usually goes straight through your bank, no separate app, not invasive, more secure.

Venmo and cash app are trash (especially Venmo) but they are alternatives that work for sending money and have been around way longer than GPay. I still use Venmo for a few things for my parents and father in law.

GPay had tons of bloat to it which I didn't like. I don't want Google tracking my spending and tailoring "offers" for me, and I definitely don't want them sending me notifications about it. I'm not delusional, I know they're still tracking it and still sending it to advertisers but at least wallet isn't shoving my face in it.

Musk says Tesla will hold shareholder vote ‘immediately’ to move company’s incorporation to Texas::Billionaire Elon Musk justified the decision on the results of an unscientific poll run on his X account a day earlier.

Lemonparty ,

Is it hard being as stupid as you are? Like, I mean, does it hurt? Cause it hurts the rest of us, let me tell ya.

Lemonparty ,

What site? DM if you'd rather not comment. I ain't no snitch

The apple watch also failed to sell well initially. Now just about everyone has one. I don't own a single apple product, but the one thing Apple has going for it with new tech is that they invest in their ecosystem and don't give up on products too quickly.

Lemonparty ,

The limited production numbers indicate that too. They're essentially banking on using fanboys (no negative connotation here) to beta test and see what they gravitate towards, and where it shines. Then like the health stuff for the watch, they'll capitalize on whatever the standout becomes and sort of cater development around it for mass appeal.

Lemonparty ,

I'm not sure if using the longest running and best smelling smart phone line in existence as an example of a product apple gave up on top quickly is a good strategy there champ.

Lemonparty ,

Same with Macbooks too. The first few iterations were kinda ass but around 2005-2007 they exploded in popularity. By the time I got to grad school nearly 50% of laptops in any given class were those white or black Macbooks.

Lemonparty ,

Almost every new iPhone. The product line is the iPhone. The product in the like is the specific phone. Saying apple abandoned the iPhone is like saying chevy abandoned the Silverado, the longest running truck model in America, by releasing a new one every year. It's literally the exact opposite of the point you're trying (very very very badly) to argue.

Lemonparty ,

You are not a smart person.

Lemonparty ,

If you can see it at all you're positive.

Lemonparty ,

They're choosing not to drive for the same reason they're choosing to be more thrifty, choosing not to go to college, choosing to live with their parents longer, and choosing not to buy homes. See if you can find the common denominator.

Lemonparty ,

They've already been adding them to mine. My home screen inputs got smashed into one (because I don't use any of the home screen apps, I only use the two HDMI inputs) so they could jam a bigger ad on the right, and then make suggested things some of the options. Like the last month or so it's been wanting me to watch super girl or Wonder woman or some dumb shit.

My other personal favorite thing they do is that they load slowly so sometimes I'll go to select an input and the cursor will jump to the wrong place because an ad loaded. Fun!

Lemonparty ,

How do you map the custom buttons? I've literally never used mine

Lemonparty ,

Oh I think mine is too old. Mine just had like a plus quadrant, power button and then there pre-programmed buttons that I've literally never used.

Wayfair lays off 13% of its workforce weeks after telling employees to work harder (www.cnn.com)

Wayfair lays off 13% of its workforce weeks after telling employees to work harder::Wayfair is laying off 1,650 employees, amounting to 13% of its global workforce, as the online home goods retailer struggled to rebound following its success amid pandemic lockdowns.

Lemonparty ,

We’re hitting the point where people are finding out just how shitty their stuff is because they’ve owned it a couple years.

I think this is the big thing. My (now) wife and I moved in together in summer 2019. We bought just about everything we needed on Wayfair. Coffee tables, book shelves, lamps, tons more.

We owned literally none of it by end of 2022.

Lemonparty ,

I vaguely remember some people experimenting with replacing the head unit with aftermarket ones, but no idea how well that would actually go in practice

This varies wildly from manufacturer to manufacturer and even year to year. For example, GM cars used to route damn near everything through the entertainment unit, so that was your central computer. Cell antenna, on star control panel, every that phoned home. That was as recently as mid 2010s. It also led to hilarious problems where a relatively simple issue like an OnStar button not working well required a complete replacement of the stereo unit (which was $8k or so in parts and labor). Now that instrument clusters are doing more while also getting more diagnostic and digital, things are transitioning to a more centralized computing system somewhere else. This can make it easier OR more difficult to get around, depends on design.

For other brands it's borderline impossible to even use an aftermarket system. Mazdas for example the entire infotainment system relies on itself. There's nowhere to even put a traditional aftermarket. I'm sure it's possible, but the design of the interior is completely based around the infotainment unit.

Lemonparty ,

I mean you could see what was on it before you bought it, that's on you dog. All you did was prove people will pay that much for a shit sandwich.
