LoamImprovement ,

Yeah, it's incredible how the 'seethe and cope' crew never get called out on being shit-stirrers and directly attacking liberals, but the minute you make a joke about convicted felon Donald Trump, all of a sudden cries for 'unity' and 'civility' come out of the woodwork.

Almost like they're massive hypocrites who never gave a flying fuck about unity and use crocodile tears and both sides-ism to avoid accountability for the things they say and do.

I bought a Blahaj the other week and my god it is so soft. I've been cuddling with it every night since.

LoamImprovement ,

Sounds like the company needs to increase its bus factor. Luckily, I can help the company by not doing any of this nonsense, to pressure execs into hiring more staff so that the team is robust enough to weather a catastrophe.

LoamImprovement ,

You wouldn't shutter a studio that produced a critically acclaimed game and then tell your remaining employees they need to make more games like that one.

LoamImprovement ,

The crazy thing is, I enjoy washing dishes. I just don't want to do it 40+ hours a week and still not be able to afford to live.

LoamImprovement ,

Oh shit, that's him? I loved Tales of Middle Earth, used to plug way too much time into that game. I should give it a look now that it's on steam.

LoamImprovement ,

Admittedly, I had only just scraped the surface of Angband likes but I love what the game did with the feat tiering, I was compelled to keep playing.

LoamImprovement ,

JFC. Imagine saying 'Strike One' out loud in person if you're on a date or something. Someone does that to me, the date is over. I don't have a lot of self-respect, but I have enough not to tolerate that bullshit.

LoamImprovement ,

I actually found a file format that VLC won't play, .MJP, yanked off of our network's security camera system. It requires the security company's proprietary video player.

LoamImprovement ,

I don't know what that is - I'll have to look into it on Monday.

LoamImprovement ,

No discredit to R.E.M. but my world's been ending for over a decade and I feel like dogshit constantly. Nobody told me the apocalypse would be heralded by the dumbest fucking cryptobros and AI prompters the world's ever seen.

Meta acquiring Oculus

As someone with industry experience working with VR, I can tell you it's a mixed bag. I think there's certainly no way Oculus (and consumer VR in general) takes off the way it did without Facebook's dollars behind it, and it's certainly paved the way to the outstanding quality of standalone HMDs that are on offer today. However, it killed the initiative for PCVR hardware with the non-consolation that Meta, Pico, and HTC offer "Link mode" on all their headsets and it's iffy on good days, which makes B2B PCVR very difficult to facilitate without some serious legwork on lowering latency over the air connections. Would that we could revive the Rift S, that headset was perfect for our needs.

The Markiplier E is the most poignant example I've seen of this phenomenon.

LoamImprovement ,

The day the $1.50 hotdog dies is the day my membership ends. Muffins already went up $3 in the last two years.

LoamImprovement ,

I'm not concerned with the people who keep their blinds closed. I'm concerned with the people who want to peek in windows.

LoamImprovement ,

Yeah, even with years of experience, LI has been my go-to for speccing out a build. They update pretty regularly and they offer tiers even without dGPUs that'll still hold up for last-gen gaming. Good way to introduce people to the basics of computing hardware.

LoamImprovement ,

Is it? The call of the void sounds better than 40 more years of this shit, if I even make it that far.

LoamImprovement ,

I'm thinking I might switch, I'm only a casual user (Literally just for shitposting) but they changed how the brushes work as far as I can tell, and it's thrown me off.

LoamImprovement ,

Palestinians are literally starving to death because this administration gave your tax dollars to the AMIC to arm Israel for a genocide. The entire world sees what we're doing and abhors it. I don't pretend it would be somehow better under Trump, but this is not good by any definition.

LoamImprovement ,

Yeah it's not just the fucking internet, doc. The world's on fire, capitalists own everything that hasn't been burned to the ground yet, and they're leasing it out to the rest of us at a rate that ensures we'll die in debt.

LoamImprovement ,

You can get kicked out any time you like

But you can never leave

LoamImprovement ,

Like that's the thing, nobody ever got attention for their cause by standing on the sidelines. The students on college campuses are lucky if they fill even one sheet with signatures, and ads are pointless because we've been so inundated with marketing that we've collectively learned to filter it out.

You know what gets eyes on your cause? Blocking roads. Being an impediment to someone else's routine. They won't like it, you probably won't either. But it fucking works.

LoamImprovement ,

Don't trust the surveillance device to turn off because you ask nicely. Leaving it at home helps sell the idea that you weren't at the protest you were at.

LoamImprovement ,

Yeah, like if you're going to the trouble of getting a faraday bag or a lead lined case or whatever you think makes it untraceable... Just leave it at home? It's a liability.

LoamImprovement ,

I live in rural Washington state. The nearest bus station from where I work is a two mile walk. The nearest bus station from where I live is a three mile walk. I live twenty miles from where I work. Biking and Bussing simply aren't feasible.

I like bikes and busses. We don't need bikes and busses to solve this problem, we need telecommuting and walkable communities.

LoamImprovement ,

I feel like I should point out, this woman did not lie on the resume. She teaches yoga to kids and does events for schools, she would absolutely have been qualified had this event not been the shitshow it was.

LoamImprovement ,

Thank you. I really hope the other photo of her gets some traction because it seems much more indicative of her experience working these sorts of functions:

https://beehaw.org/pictrs/image/82df5ee0-78f9-40eb-9ed9-816a3357b06f.webp

LoamImprovement ,

Oh man, where to begin? So there was an event advertised as an 'immersive Willy Wonka's Wonderland experience' with all sorts of AI art and marketing:

https://amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/feb/27/glasgow-willy-wonka-experience-slammed-as-farce-as-tickets-refunded

The long and short of it was that the event, not officially licensed by WB (quelle fucking suprise) hosted in a dirty warehouse with little more than cheap props, tacky holiday ornaments and shower curtains, ended up being a complete shitshow. They gave each child, I shit you not, a couple (literally 0-3, dependent on how early your time slot was) jellybeans and half a cup of Tesco lemonade. No actual chocolate to be found in the entire chocolate-factory-themed event. The actors, including this poor woman, were hired and briefed literally the day before the event, handed 15 page AI-generated scripts that, predictably, made no fucking sense, including original characters like "the unknown," and basically had to just wing it in poundland costumes. And like, in spite of it all, they really did give it their best effort, and from what I understand still haven't been paid for their work.

Predictably, the event organizers ended up having to refund people for this sham of an event that they claim "failed to materialize." Well of course it did, the people who were responsible for putting it together cooked up a dozen AI images and shat out a "legally distinct" script and thought it would all come together. Much like Fyre Festival, it's another failure on the part of hucksters who do not understand that events require planning and don't care to understand because they're just trying to make a buck.

LoamImprovement ,

I like it, thank you!

Make it quirky and hang lampshades on every video game trope.

This is what its like working in childcare. Kids do stuff like this all the time.

I feel like I should be concerned about the emotional intelligence of today's youth, but at the same time I'm imagining this pokemon-esque abomination flying around and saying "Homander" before laser blasting the hell out of things and it makes me giggle as it probably did this child.

    LoamImprovement ,

I mean, I think Mattel probably would have hard vetoed that. I'm honestly shocked they got the fascist line in.

    LoamImprovement ,

Great film. Real weird to see Alex Jones pre-rightwing Infowars downward spiral.

    LoamImprovement ,

I'm going to second this, with a couple asterisks. $800 for the computer is probably about where you get the most bang for your buck in terms of AA/AAA gaming, but you will still need peripherals - keyboard/mouse, speakers/headset, and a monitor, that can tack another $1-200 on the price (notwithstanding that even if the controllers come with the console, you still need a TV.) Logical Increments puts their "good" tier at about $761, suitable for 1080p 60FPS with medium settings.

Arguably the bigger value here is not being locked into a platform - if you find yourself with a little more budget down the road, you can piecemeal out your old PC with newer parts for a lower cost than a new console (with the possible exception of the GPU) and you can get more utility out of a PC than a console.

    LoamImprovement ,

Generosity is not a substitute for justice. A billionaire could give up literally every dirty dollar, but the people who worked themselves to a walking death to make that money can't get their time back. That's lifetimes of separation from family and community. That's an avalanche of mental health issues that never go away. The damage is already done.

    LoamImprovement ,

Without even clicking the link, I'm going to bet it's the stupid fucking double hack scene.
