Rage Against the Machine doing this concert would just be Tom Morello beating every one of them to death with his guitar.

Mirshe ,

Their home version of Spokesman is great.

Mirshe ,

Other people have said (keep in mind that neither I nor they are capable of diagnosing anything long-distance) that his posture is characteristic of certain degenerative brain disorders like Alzheimer's.

Mirshe ,

We sure do NOT have universally mandatory civics, not anymore. I graduated in 09 and my school district didn't teach anyone anything beyond the basics of the voting system.

Mirshe ,

Pretty much this. It's the radium craze, or the ozone craze, or a whole bunch of other fads - everything has to have AI/LLMs integrated in some way or it's not "interesting" to shareholders.

Mirshe ,

Pretty much this. Elon was never interested in what he SHOULD HAVE BEEN: making an inexpensive electric vehicle that's widely available. Tesla had the tech to do so, but they were being driven to make insane decisions like moving the gearshift to a touchscreen (gee, I love taking my eyes off the road to shift gears), or making "futuristic" doors that actually cannot physically open from the inside (whoops, guess those just can't be recalled since DOT has literally no teeth).

Mirshe ,

Also, I think Tesla saw the way the wind was blowing on standardization. Eventually, the DOT will enforce a standard plug, and if it's not YOURS, suddenly you have to either remanufacture the cars you're making, or otherwise refit them to work with the new standard.

Mirshe ,

One can seriously hope, and moreover hope that the trains are electrified. We seem to be pathologically afraid of re-electrifying rail in the US.

Mirshe ,

Behind the Bastards also did a hilarious episode on it.

Mirshe ,

The Superdome thing is especially egregious, because a ton of people had worked to convert it into a refugee camp, including several armed patrols to make sure people didn't steal shit they didn't need.

Court Bans Use of 'AI-Enhanced' Video Evidence Because That's Not How AI Works (gizmodo.com)

A judge in Washington state has blocked video evidence that’s been “AI-enhanced” from being submitted in a triple murder trial. And that’s a good thing, given the fact that too many people seem to think applying an AI filter can give them access to secret visual data.

Mirshe ,

Don't forget people thinking that scanlines in a news broadcast over Obama's suit meant that Obama was a HOLOGRAM and ACTUALLY A LIZARD PERSON.

Mirshe ,

Not really laws, at least in the US. So long as they don't claim it's made of things it isn't, they can say "well the packaging clearly states it's not real, actual leather".

Mirshe ,

Also have to pay and credit two actors for one role, which might get sticky, especially with awards.

Please, for the love of God, VOTE! (pawb.social)

I don't like Biden either, but anyone with half a brain knows there are two choices in the 2020 election. If we had a sane voting system, voting third party might be worth it, but as it stands, no one but you knows your favorite candidate exists and unless you want to become their campaign manager that will still be true in...

Mirshe ,

Even if you're in a solid blue state, vote for Biden. Because you don't know if it's your vote that pushes your state over that line.

Mirshe ,

Which, even assuming a generously low run of 100k, is still $4 mil. That assumes that Evangelical churches won't buy these by the millions - and I assure you, many will.

You'll also get megachurches getting in on the action - there are a scary amount of mega pastors who are just waiting to be the new face of propaganda for a theocratic regime.

Mirshe ,

Fun fact: Tom has said this is the highlight of his career, over anything else he's done professionally.

Mirshe ,

Basically this. Look at all the big fusion reactor projects - they've been going for decades and JUST NOW hit a very miniscule amount of net output within the past several months.

Now i'm definitely cheering for Rulestein (lemmy.ml)

alt text: A "xit" from user @ChrpngBrd in which he responds to another "xit" from @BlueBoxDave that says "If Israel falls then America falls. It's that simple." @ChrpngBrd's response is a thumbs up emoji, and two stills from The Simpsons S02E19 "Lisa's Substitute." In which, the first image is Martin Prince putting up a poster...

Mirshe ,

And they only used that because it was cheaper. The entire massacre was carried out with a total of about $16 worth of ingredients.

Evangelical app 'Bless Every Home' is mapping personal information of immigrants and non-Christians in a bid to conduct door-to-door religious conversions and “prayerwalking” rituals targeting them. (newrepublic.com)

It puts a lot of features at the fingertips of the faithful, including the ability to filter whole neighborhoods by religion, ethnicity, “Hispanic country of origin,” “assimilation,” and whether there are children living in the household....

Mirshe ,

Yup, this is a hitlist, not a "prayer list" or whatever.

Mirshe ,

Before we started legislating car safety, more often, if you got in a crash at speed, you would be either dead or seriously injured. It was not uncommon for a front-end collision to shove the entire steering column into, in some cases THROUGH, people's ribcages because there was no shock absorption. "Defensive driving" - avoiding a collision at all costs - was taught mostly because of this sort of problem.

I'll speak to the effectively of modern safety engineering myself - I was involved in two serious accidents within the past two years that, were I in a vehicle without safety features, would've left me dead or crippled for life. One, my Jeep spun out on a patch of wet road and got slammed by two other vehicles in a pinball situation - airbags deployed and I was left with some soreness and a thoroughly-wrecked vehicle. The other, my work van got T-boned by a semi truck at speed while crossing an intersection - once again, the airbags deployed, the seatbelt locked me in place, and the fact that the rear of the vehicle was designed to squish in on itself saved me from, at the very least, a severe case of whiplash, and more than likely some severe head injuries.

Mirshe ,

There really aren't any. No candidate has withdrawn or died before the election, and nobody ever really considered the possibility even as candidate ages grow older and older.

Mirshe ,

Here's one near me!
https://www.ourharvest.coop/

And the larger collection of coops that they associate with.
https://coopcincy.org/overview

I'll bet that no matter where you are in the world, there's a large collection of coops that are functioning and have functioned for quite a while.

Mirshe ,

Yes, actually, BECAUSE THEY DO ALL OVER THE WORLD. In fact, worker-owned cooperative businesses are MORE common in the third world than they are in the "developed" world - mostly farming coops like the one I linked first, but business, banking, and all sorts of cooperatives are VERY common even in economically-depressed areas.

Nigeria: https://www.cfan.coop/

Nicaragua: https://coopcoffees.coop/las-diosas/

Honduras: https://coopcoffees.coop/category/producers/latin-america/honduras/

Ghana: https://ghanacooperativescouncil.com/

Papua New Guinea: https://www.croptocup.com/community/aaak-cooperative/

I can go on, but just search "[insert country name] coops" and you'll find some, almost guaranteed.

Most coops start from workers in other sectors, or with other income streams combining their money together and using those funds to start their cooperative, or workers in a company will buy out or convert their company into a worker-owned cooperative. They all share in profit from the cooperative, the revenue is held by an elected treasurer, the management and directorial staff, if any, are voted upon by workers, and workers vote and have an active voice in how the proceeds are spent to better the cooperative. This is INCREDIBLY common the world over, and in some places, these types of businesses have existed before capitalism was spread there.

Mirshe ,

His manifesto is full of a bunch of problematic racial overtones as well.

Mirshe ,

Scoobynatural is one of my favorite episodes of Supernatural, right up there with Changing Channels. I wish they had gotten the rights, the time, and the cameo money to do an X-Files crossover.

Mirshe ,

Actually had a coworker who refused to cook or eat anything with salt on it, or any sort of spice. Apparently she had grown up eating pretty much nothing but plain boiled meat, and never tried to branch out from that, ever.

Mirshe ,

This is true with most off-label stuff. It comes off the same lines as name brands, it just goes into a different package.

Mirshe ,

Alternately, they can hold elections and still make them corrupt by holding them at the most inconvenient times for everyone except the people they want. "Our election is a voice vote, the week before Thanksgiving, at 2PM in a conference room in town 50 miles away" sorta stuff.

Voice Ruler (pawb.social)

A screenshot of a tweet from @zumo_zd, which reads "I like it when this happens". The attached image is a drawn mock-up of an IMDb-style page of "Popular Voice Actor Man, known for Lord Darkness Edgeman from Blood Dying and Screaming". On his list of roles, this casting is listed, but he is also listed as voicing "Fish" from...

Mirshe ,

And like 40 other characters from every piece of media ever. He was Long Feng in Avatar (there is no war in Ba Sing Se), he was Rawhide in Buckaroo Banzai, Parallax, Taskmaster, Surtur (from Thor: Ragnarok), Sergeant Zim (the DI) in Starship Troopers...
