I’m not sure you can even eat fungible sandwiches

NightAuthor ,

I watched a YouTube video where this guy buys thinkpads that are “broken” and often they just need ram installed or something simple, and for a minor risk of buying a dud, he gets laptops for super cheap.

Moving a prosthetic arm. Controlling a speaking avatar. Typing at speed. These are all things that people with paralysis have learnt to do using brain–computer interfaces (BCIs) — implanted devices that are powered by thought alone.

NightAuthor ,

Most tools miss a ton bc of the limitations of the website and api. The best, pretty much only, way to get everything is to get an export of your data, then use that csv to delete all items one by one

What can you get to within a 15-minute walk of your house?

A recent YouGov survey asked Americans what they think they should be able to get to within a 15-minute walk of their house.

Of these choices, I can currently walk to all of them from my apartment, aside from a university (no biggie, I'm not currently studying, although there is a Tafe within walking distance), a hospital, and a sports arena.

How many can you get to with a 15 minute walk from your house?

I definitely don’t refer to it as a gas station if there’s no gas, but… I may very well refer to the convenience store attached to the gas station as a “gas station”. Like “I’m gonna stop at a gas station and get some coffee”, even if I mean any convenience store, gas or no.

It’s like a rectangle-square situation

I think straight is more about sex than gay is.

Stop wearing Vision Pro goggles while driving your Tesla: U.S. transportation officials, Calif. police (www.nytimes.com)

Stop wearing Vision Pro goggles while driving your Tesla: U.S. transportation officials, Calif. police::Videos, many of them stunts or jokes, of people wearing Apple’s new virtual reality headset while driving Teslas in Autopilot mode prompted officials to issue warnings.

I can assure you, there exists no such consensus on the definition of any of the terms.

The most universal you’ll get for AR is the combination of primarily real-world with some digital aspects.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reality–virtuality_continuum

I’ve read extensively on the topic. Albeit a couple of years ago.

NightAuthor ,

The terms are up for definition, I’ve read a ton and there is no specific consensus about optically seeing reality

NightAuthor ,

I might try that, city subreddit is a huge resource

That seems like a lot of new features for x.x.1 update

Ideally, in SemVer, I believe xx1 updates would just be bug fixes that are unlikely to have any regressive impacts. It should be the absolute safest to update to automatically.

Home Depot, Staples, B&HPhoto (decent selection of general tech merch, but tons of photo/video)

As much as I dislike it, google shopping helps me find where I can pick things up locally.

There are things that I’ve been unsatisfied with the alternative options, or particular brands that only sell on Amazon, so I use it occasionally. But I don’t have a subscription to prevent the compulsion to use it.

State taxes are probably an additional complication in the calculations that hasn’t been implemented yet for all states. And for those without a state income tax not covered, probably some other state-tax-adjacent thing

The Pentagon Tried to Hide That It Bought Americans’ Data Without a Warrant (www.wired.com)

The Pentagon Tried to Hide That It Bought Americans’ Data Without a Warrant::US spy agencies purchased Americans’ phone location data and internet metadata without a warrant but only admitted it after a US senator blocked the appointment of a new NSA director.

NightAuthor ,

As much as I hate it, I was under the impression that US government agencies routinely purchased user data from brokers because it was a workaround for warrant requirements to acquire the data themselves.

NightAuthor ,

Ah yes, the condescending prick with poor reading comprehension.

NightAuthor ,

Just on the math rq, 25% almost certainly means 25% of the risk is reduced… therefore 60%->45%

Big wiki is coming for you

Jk, I’m probably just as out of the loop as you. But maybe it’s OP that out of the loop.

I thought wiki was one of the good-ish guys.

I think printer purchasers are an “investment” to the company because they are a loss leader (or close to it)…. Low to no margin to pull you into the shitty ecosystem.

Sublinks Aims to Be a Drop-In Replacement for Lemmy (wedistribute.org)

Seems like an interesting effort. A developer is building an alternative Java-based backend to Lemmy's Rust-based one, with the goal of building in a handful of different features. The dev is looking at using this compatibility to migrate their instance over to the new platform, while allowing the community to use their apps of...

They’re sticking to the existing standard tho

Computer RAM gets biggest upgrade in 25 years but it may be too little, too late — LPCAMM2 won't stop Apple, Intel and AMD from integrating memory directly on the CPU (www.techradar.com)

Computer RAM gets biggest upgrade in 25 years but it may be too little, too late — LPCAMM2 won't stop Apple, Intel and AMD from integrating memory directly on the CPU::LPCAMM2 is a revolution in RAM, but it faces an uphill struggle

But even soldered ram isn’t as bad as in-cpu ram. Soldered ram can be replaced/upgraded by skilled technicians. I don’t think that’s possible at all with in-cpu ram.

NightAuthor ,

Yeah, I agree.

As for who those few are, well, I wouldn’t myself… probably… but I’d definitely like the option of taking my laptop to someone like Louis Rossmann who can do such work. He’s even shown that sometimes the ram gets destroyed by apples weird circuit designs and if it was just soldered on, the laptop and all your data would actually be salvageable.

On the other hand, As a guy who’s great with computers, nothing is hotter than a woman troubleshooting her own tech problems.

NightAuthor ,

And base 3 and 12. But we don’t really use those numbering systems.

NightAuthor ,

So my question is, which is next: up or down?

NightAuthor ,

I believe my Prius is up for next, as in go to the next highest index song.

Both make sense, so in a way neither do

Gen 2 Prius had both left and right, with the volume clearly labeled as up to the right

NightAuthor ,

You usually have the option of installing for just your user, and I think that usually doesn’t require admin permissions.

NightAuthor ,

lol, -3k in comments. Sounds like you’re having a great time w your account.

NightAuthor ,

I dabble a bit in trolling, it’s fun, though it still only has modest appeal to me… I figured if they got 3k score, they must really like it, and enjoy the process of getting to -3k

NightAuthor ,

No, yeah… I agree

NightAuthor ,

I think you can be a “trust fund baby” and still only have like millions or 10s of millions. Which is enough to squander in your lifetime…. I can be jealous of people in that situation and not hate. It’s the billionaires with more money than their families could use in 5 generations and who are still accumulating more. Those people can get guillotined.

NightAuthor ,

But instead of trying to stop it, we buy bigger and bigger vehicles.

NightAuthor ,

Well at least someone managed to get a lawyer to fight my insurance company who’s leveraged AI to auto process claims and it’s issuing unfounded mass claim denials.

NightAuthor ,

Well, I hate this comment and I’ve downvoted it.

NightAuthor ,

But what if I saved money not talking to a lawyer and never had the client sign an indemnity?

NightAuthor ,

Maybe we should up the ante on this war, and start actively making fun of those who be hating on peanut butter. There are plenty of arguments for either pronunciation, but jiffers are losing the war bc we’re being so passive. Just living our lives, as if the pronunciation of a word doesn’t fucking matter if everyone knows what you mean…. We need to eradicate the culture of soft-g giffers

NightAuthor ,

I wonder if we can actually adopt technology so fast as to completely ruin our economy before we can notice that’s what’s happening.

Businesses are going to adopt AI and robotics to increase productivity and drive down costs. But it quickly becomes a tragedy of the commons if every business only considers their own selfish interests. Eventually there will not be enough employed consumers to be able to buy those products your pumping out at record rates.

NightAuthor ,

What’s that, can I put this on my face? I don’t wanna shave my beard anymore. -90% cis male

NightAuthor ,

Maybe we devise a machine like the laser hair removal ones, but instead of applying lasers to the hair follicles, we put a super tiny drop of acid?

NightAuthor ,

That’s interesting, I may give that a shot, the cream
