Y-y-yeah that's it, t-t-that's why he's crying alright. I mean, I'm he's not crying, shut up! /s :-P

This alone is enough to answer why people need to vote for Biden next term!!!

How did you know that I was referring to (that famous person) from (the other side)? Blast, I would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for you meddling sleuths! :-P /s

Yup, sounds about wrong :-P

Not a terribly accurate portrayal... (cop was way too accurate, not involving bystanders, and actually bothered to clean up the mess!)

USA bias strikes again! :-P

This does not go nearly far enough imho. The woman on the right needs to be literally enslaved, in bondage (but not the fun kind) while the woman in the red dress needs to be appreciated not just in passing but during every waking moment of every hour of every day, with every thought, hope, wish, dream, prayer, and most importantly action dedicated to her eternal happiness, but more importantly her happiness right the fuck NOW in the next quarter.

Also it's not just the USA but the entire Western world... and quite frankly the entire non-Western one too just with Profit substituted with Power.

But the REALLY fucked up part is that literally nobody that I have ever met IRL has ever acted that way, though conversely who doesn't have that culture going on at their workplace? It's a HIGHLY skewed distribution where the "job creators" act that way, and not even like 99% of them but only the billionaire and wannabe class, and bullies, whereas everyone else seems to remember the human... except, for whatever odd reason, when it comes time to vote.:-(

That might have been some kind of fad in 1999, when that movie (Office Space) came out? I dunno, it was before my time. But I choose instead to think it was perhaps intentional, to help make this guy a highly visible parody of just an absolute dick. Ofc, both of those things could be true at the same time - it may have been those type of people that liked to wear that type of clothing style!:-P

OpenStars ,
@OpenStars@startrek.website avatar

Oh no, think of how that will affect your coworkers!?

The TV series Earth: Final Conflict, made by Gene Roddenberry, had a story based on this premise:-).

OpenStars ,
@OpenStars@startrek.website avatar

Not only that, but also under these conditions. Blaming others for one's own problems used to be a sign of mental unhealth, but now it is considered a sign of "proper management"!:-P

I use Blokada - but not the latest version since the company switched from the free open-source standalone app paradigm to a cloud-based continual paid subscription model. It seems like Blokada version 4 (obtained either from the company's webpage or F-droid I forget which) blocks a heck of a lot more stuff than version 5 for some reason.

On the other hand, it also noticeably heats up my phone if a not-well-behaved app (examples include Freemium games) continually resubmits queries over & over again every (or even multiple times a) second. You can block every request that it makes... but it can also keep making them so... at some point you may question whether the cost is worth it.

This arguably relates more to "tracking" than actual advertisements, since there can only be a finite number of the latter but the former can happen all day every day even when the app is not running, if it decides to be aggressive about checking in with its home base. These days, even if you do pay for something, your data is STILL the actual "product" that is the reason the company is in business at all to obtain.:-(

OpenStars ,
@OpenStars@startrek.website avatar

Thank you for helping fill out this list. May I ask why you moved away from Blokada? Version 5 is bad ofc, and 6 is far, FAR worse, but 4 worked well for me.

It looks like AdAway has some nice features since I saw it last, like the ability to whitelist a particular app. If it does not require root permissions, it might be a clear winner even.

OpenStars ,
@OpenStars@startrek.website avatar

Yeah I still use Blokada 5 on my daily driver - it generally works "well enough" for most things, so I never bothered to switch to 4 on it. But I did notice that if you try to play a game on it, it's like the ad blocker isn't even there, whereas version 4 worked a lot better straight away. I may just not have played around enough with the settings of 5 though:-).

But I did not say that I knew them! :-P

However, at a guess, she has trouble letting go of her "baby boy". That type of marriage would be quite difficult, for the new wife & especially the husband caught in the middle.

Congrats, you just entered the running to become the next CEO of Boeing. :-|

How many people were inside the trolly though, and would die if it derailed?

OpenStars ,
@OpenStars@startrek.website avatar

"Safe" for the passengers then, but is nobody else truly around that could get hurt by the derailment?

Also, how many tied to the tracks are literally murderers who if not themselves killed in this manner, will go on to kill many more again?

Or did these people - cult members? - have themselves tied to the tracks willingly, wanting that easy death rather than slavery of the continued drudgery of existence?

I... might be overthinking this.:-P

Why do we have to do the health insurance company's job for them?

Just so tired of almost every time a doctor submits stuff to insurance, we have to be the ones to make multiple phone calls to both the doctor's office and insurance to iron everything out, figure out what the issue is (it's always a different issue), and basically be the go-between for the office and insurance. What am I...

OpenStars ,
@OpenStars@startrek.website avatar

And if you happen to die in the meantime, well then in that case you cannot sue :-P.

There really has been nothing even close to it since. I hoped OnePlus would at least be a fairly clean flagship killer, but then the cofounder left it enshittified so bad. The Nexus was the BEST!

And what is it that plants crave? Why, electrolytes ofc!

What I wonder is... how?! A quick search shows that half of people in the USA use Chrome, another 30% Safari, 8% use Edge, and only 5% Firefox. This study was done by Ghostery so perhaps they chose a biased subset of the population? It just seems weird to me to think that more than half of average users use ad-blocking, these days.

OpenStars ,
@OpenStars@startrek.website avatar

Yes it is available. It in turn points to another site Censuswide, but does say:

The figures are representative of all US adults aged 16+

That boat show, made by the same people who made Dark, was pretty good. Think like LOTR's first movie - it does wrap up, even if it had also meant to go onwards (and in this case did not).

OpenStars ,
@OpenStars@startrek.website avatar

Or worse, after a successful first season, enshittify the entire thing for the sake of moar profitz. Stranger Things...

OpenStars ,
@OpenStars@startrek.website avatar

Including one of its two cofounders. They agreed they they would use puppets but never CGI, and they said that they would remain pure to the storyline rather than "sell out" for the sake of profits.

But then season 1 was a success and one but not the other cofounder wanted moar monay, so as soon as the second season it had already begun to lose everything that it spent that first season building up.

The magic was gone, not entirely, but mostly, having been sacrificed for the sake of chasing profits "above all else".

OpenStars ,
@OpenStars@startrek.website avatar

Bold of you to assume that thing on his head is "hair":-).

Pre-xactly! THERE IS NO SUCH THING. STOP TALKING ABOUT HYPNOSLUGS WE THAT DO NOT EXIST.

OpenStars ,
@OpenStars@startrek.website avatar

Ngl, I think that was the message. As in "this is my backstory", end of story.

What made it good was perhaps more in how it was done.

Not every movie needs a moral of the story moment...

Don't forget the rest of your phrase there: justify... "to who"?

If to you, he would have to do a LOT more than he has, for you to still buy in despite seeing that.

To them, merely having the title of "CEO" seems to be enough, to those who refuse to dig deeper. pOsItIoN oF aUtHoRiTaH.

They will be shocked, Shocked I tell you, SHOCKED when their money goes poof.

Put another way, your question presupposes several things, e.g. "In a fair world, how could that be allowed to happen!?".

BTW, Donald Trump lowered the funding for the SEC, the agency responsible for investigation of financial fraud matters. Also he + the Republican Congress lowered the funding for the IRS too. After ACTUALLY "defunding the police" with his right hand - while simultaneously claiming that the leftists wanted to "defund the police" with his left - we will see a lot more of this than we did in the past.

In the past, criminals feared the police and did not want to get caught. Now that there are fewer investigations into financial frauds... we have FA, and we are about to FO.
