made climate activists look stupid for decades to come over some nonsensical and ineffective attention grab

didn't stop climate change

Yeah, seems about right.

They had the right idea when they spray painted those private jets. IDK what they were thinking with the Stonehenge stunt.

Ragdoll_X ,
@Ragdoll_X@lemmy.world avatar

The Stonehenge stunt was an ineffective attention grab. Vandalizing the private jets was an effective attention grab.

Like if some Just Stop Oil activist took a shit in the middle of a busy NY street that would get them a lot of attention, but it wouldn't be even remotely positive or effective in any way.

They should stick to vandalizing the property of the biggest culprits of climate change. I and most other leftists can get behind that, and it actually puts a spotlight on the people causing the problem. The Stonehenge stunt just comes off as a petty attack on the public who has little to no say on climate issues.

Ragdoll_X ,
@Ragdoll_X@lemmy.world avatar

I didn’t hear about the vandalizing of private jets until people were complaining about stone henge.

It'd be a bit odd if you had heard about the jets before the Stonehenge stunt since they vandalized the jets one day after Stonehenge. I heard about each of them on the day they happened as I was listening to the news.

this does seem like a much more effective way of bringing attention to the issue.

Even most leftists didn't support the Stonehenge stunt while the majority of comments and posts I've seen on the vandalism of the jets was positive. The majority of the public has grievances towards private jets, their pollution and who's using them, and how they should be taxed. You'll be hard-pressed to find anyone who thinks Stonehenge is bad or that vandalizing it is good.

This only serves to make them and other climate activists look like petty fools, besides creating infighting on the left. Nearly everyone already knows about climate change and has an opinion on it, and the Stonehenge stunt does nothing to move the public to our side or make Just Stop Oil look good.

Most of the time I think with my own voice, but sometimes when I've been watching a lot of videos from the same creator I'll start thinking with their voice and speech patterns. This was moderately annoying when I started hearing my thoughts being narrated by Jacksepticeye's high-pitched Irish voice.

No but you see he is a visionary! A real life Tony Stark!! He'll do great things with that money like... Making Twitter X likes private for some reason...? I'm sure that cost a lot of money somehow /s

According to a new report released Sunday, 3,309 cases of hate and violence against the LGBTQ community were reported to the Association for LGBTQ Equality in Israel in 2022.

Twenty-five percent of all reports of anti-LGBT incidents occurred during the months of November and December, after the elections and around the time the new government was being sworn in. This is an increase of about 11 percent compared to 2021, when about 2,971 cases were reported. The association reports that the increase is part of a continuing trend in the number of reports in recent years.

But Israel is totally an LGBTQ safe haven, guys...

Like what's the threshold here? How homophobic does a group of people have to be to justify genocide? Can the same argument be made towards Republicans, since a majority of them are homophobic?

IIRC it was something like a fraction of a fraction of 1% that was CSAM, with the researchers identifying the images through their hashes but they weren't actually available in the dataset because they had already been removed from the internet.

Still, you could make AI CSAM even if you were 100% sure that none of the training images included it since that's what these models are made for - being able to combine concepts without needing to have seen them before. If you hold the AI's hand enough with prompt engineering, textual inversion and img2img you can get it to generate pretty much anything. That's the power and danger of these things.

This did happen a while back, with researchers finding thousands of hashes of CSAM images in LAION-2B. Still, IIRC it was something like a fraction of a fraction of 1%, and they weren't actually available in the dataset because they had already been removed from the internet.

If you read one Wikipedia article on a topic you're already more knowledgeable about that topic than 99% of people.

At the same time you shouldn't assume you know everything/enough about a topic just because you read a Wikipedia article on it.

A while back on R*ddit I had this discussion with a "libertarian" where they unironically defended the idea that local communities should be able to dictate people's clothes. For leftists "freedom" means expanding and protecting the rights of the people, while for them it literally just means "freedom to oppress others".

Please tell me how an AI model can distinguish between “inspiration” and plagiarism then.

[...] they just spit out something that it “thinks” is the best match for the prompt based on its training data and thus could not make this distinction in order to actively avoid plagiarism.

I'm not entirely sure what the argument is here. Artists don't scour the internet for any image that looks like their own drawings to avoid plagiarism, and often use photos or the artwork of others as reference, but that doesn't mean they're plagiarizing.

Plagiarism is about passing off someone else's work as your own, and image-generation models are trained with the intent to generalize - that is, being able to generate things it's never seen before, not just copy, which is why we're able to create an image of an astronaut riding a horse even though that's something the model obviously would've never seen, and why we're able to teach the models new concepts with methods like textual inversion or Dreambooth.

In early 2019 bittorrent's website views fluctuated between ~6M to ~9M. Now it's around 3M to 4M.

In early 2019 utorrent's visits fluctuated between ~26M to ~75M. Now it sits around 25M to 21M.

The fact that there were far more captures in early 2019 for both of them might be an indication that this was their peak, and while visits have reduced since then they're far from dying.

Streaming services may be part of the reason, though I also think it's because many games and software have switched to freemium & microtransactions so spending money is optional, along with the fact that free and open source alternatives to mainstream software have become more robust and popular. When I was a kid I torrented Sony Vegas, but now that's simply not necessary since we have DaVinci Resolve.

I'd guess the file in question was from a drawing software like Clip Studio Paint, where the layers and panels would be stored separately so you could corrupt just one of them.

Well she's right about one thing, and that's that true crime is about as realistic and useful as fairy tales lol.

Like come on, let's be real: We watch true crime out of morbid curiosity and because the shows are entertaining. That's fine! IDK why some people try to launder their interest in true crime as some sort of "research".
