CEO of Google Says It Has No Solution for Its AI Providing Wildly Incorrect Information (futurism.com)

You know how Google's new feature called AI Overviews is prone to spitting out wildly incorrect answers to search queries? In one instance, AI Overviews told a user to use glue on pizza to make sure the cheese won't slide off (pssst...please don't do this.)...

If you can't fix it, then get rid of it, and don't bring it back until we reach a time when it's good enough to not cause egregious problems (which is never, so basically don't ever think about using your silly Gemini thing in your products ever again)

An Important Hypothetical - What Android Apps Do You Install?? (sh.itjust.works)

You're twelve years old on Thanksgiving at six thirty in the morning. You'll be leaving for Grandma's in about a half hour, and she's lives a three hour drive away, going in one direction. You have nothing to prepare yourself on this journey, other than a tablet running Android Eleven. Beware, the speaker is broken and there is...

Be glad that it's actually growing. It used to be so much lower.

And we're gonna make it grow so much more.

I got it long after the Antennagate problem got fixed. I believe iOS 4.3 was out when I first bought it.

It's probably a mix of both.

I have said multiple times before that 2013 was the worst year ever. I'm still proud of that opinion, but maybe, just MAYBE, there was something good about that year after all, so it wasn't all darkness and rainstorms.

It had MOAR websites to access.

First I get misgendered by actual humans, and now I'm potentially gonna be a victim of misgendering by robots.

I bet they're gonna say I'm a girl too. I am not. I have never been one. I was assigned male at birth, identify as male, and use he/him pronouns. Stop telling me otherwise.

Sometimes people apologize, othertimes other people insist that I need to "behave like a man" even though it conflicts with my personality massively.

Replace "for just a few weeks" with "forever", and "reduces" with "gets rid of", and now you have an even better statement.

    Resol ,
    @Resol@lemmy.world avatar

Or even more better: just get rid or all social media that is associated with massive corporate giants (YouTube is still too useful to get rid of, but it dors still have lots of problems)

Get an Intel powered Mac and install Linux on it, just to mess with Apple.

(Note: only Windows and macOS are officially supported on these kinds of computers, and on the new Apple silicon Macs, only the latter)

VLC: it can do anything media related. I wish iTunes can do this without being so bloated.

I like listening to full albums because then I can decide which songs I can listen to again later on, and which ones to actively avoid.

Hmm... I wonder why Linux has yet to rise.

I mean, we only have like 17 months until support for Windows 10 ends, it's not like it's that long.

I'm thinking the same thing with KDE Neon. Idk, Mint just feels WAY too similar to Windows. I get some people like that, but I don't wanna be reminded of something inferior.

    Good luck with your mint.

Eh, my lappy has terrible battery life regardless of what OS is running on it, and even then, I always use it plugged it anyway, exactly like Strong Bad (it's why I used the word "Lappy")

I guess that kinda makes sense.

But we'll, Ubuntu was basically the average computer user's introduction to Linux (even if it kinda sucks now), I kinda think it could still do the job fairly well... only for those users to switch to a potentially better distro.

Oh, I use it quite a lot.

Once I spent a few days with Ubuntu, I had a very strong reliance on the terminal for simply installing stuff (because I wanna avoid that Snap Store), it takes some time to learn, but I don't think it's that difficult.

I'm sure DankPods made a video about bone conduction headphones on YouTube. He tested 3 different models from different manufacturers and... well, he had quite a lot to say about them, especially when comparing them to sunglasses that are also headphones.

Quite a lot of people in my country still use Windows 7, even 4 whole years after support ended, they really don't wanna give it up.

I wonder if the same will be true for Windows 10.

Microsoft is once again injecting pop-up ads into Google Chrome on Windows in a bid to get people to switch to Bing (www.theverge.com)

The software giant first introduced malware-like pop-up ads last year with a prompt that appeared over the top of other apps and windows. After pausing that notification to address “unintended behavior,” the pop-ups have returned again on Windows 10 and 11....
