Like my professor used to say: "Implementation is trivial, a trained ape can do it."

DeAmazoning a FireTV

I never want to get a smart TV, but I found this exact TV (Toshiba FireTV) on the side of the road and decided it would be a fun project to try enhancing its privacy as much as I can. It did not come with the remote or any other accessories besides the TV, so if there is any way to pair an iPhone/Pixel as a remote that would...

OSMC (Debian based), if you want to install additional software or LibeELEC if you like to use only Kodi.

And then there is Sweden...

Filofax If from UK. For these organisers and notebooks they produce, imho it actually makes sense to have several (equally spaced) holes.

Swedish Triohålning and especially the corresponding binders however, are mildly speaking impractical: It works starting from ISO A6 instead A7 and reading documents in a trio binder is a mess.

On the platform formerly known as 🐦, there was the option to completely block a user (mutually invisible), not only muting (invisible for me) them, which avoids this problem.

They recently managed to complete porting to QT5 framework. Thus it is still missing in distributions that do no longer ship QT4, like e.g. Debian 11+.

Successful_Try543 ,

Speaking of Debian:

No bugfixes? Yes. The software will not be changed to fix a usual bug.

No security patches? No. Security patches are applied.

Successful_Try543 ,

Exactly. The Debian team is quite conservative in fixing non-critical bugs in the stable branch, as it may introduce new bugs.

If one wants more up-to-date software, the testing branch is a valid choice or Siduction, if one is brave enough.

Chemistry is just the physics of the electron orbitals of atoms.

Successful_Try543 ,

I've been waiting for this one.

The formula on the top right of the rectifier is indeed purely 3d mathematics, no physics involved so far.

Thanks for asking. I'm using Debian and didn't know either. :p

I know, but NK politically isn't that far away from PRC.

I recall a statement from an article I've read several years ago on the presentation of Will Scott, a professor who has been in NK, at 31C3 2014.

When Scott gained root access, he found a program inaccessible to normal users that allowed the convenient setup of encrypted data carriers. "That's interesting if you need an AES-encrypted data carrier that the NSA is guaranteed not to have tampered with," joked Scott.

I don't know how it came into my luggage either.

You could still enter the URL manually if you are concerned.

I think it's about the privacy being harmed when needing to login, e.g. for bug reporting and working with the source code by means oft GitHub, not for the passive part of just downloading the source for local use.

Estonia just came into my mind, as it supposedly is about police harassment of homeless people.

Then, maybe, Baikal a Cal-/ Card-DAV server is what you are searching for.

Successful_Try543 , (edited )

In principle any DAV client should work. On Android, I use DAVx5 and Tasks.org to access my Nextcloud. On Thunderbird + Lightning, you can e.g. use SOGo connector or TbSync to use the address books, calendars and tasks.

The article 'dat' doesn't match with Nordic languages. Google translate says its Krio language, which is English-based and lingua franca in Sierra-Leone. However, I can't tell whether that's correct.

Successful_Try543 , (edited )

I just wanted to defend that it doesn't look Dutch, but neither Nordic. I know how they look, as I've been living there for a while.

But, looking at the image, It's probably just a joke that one can't write a properly spelled text with that keyboard.

For me it looks like my grandma has been trying to write a text in English 'by ear'.

Unity was a nice DE. Being on KDE since 12 years, I still miss some of its features, e.g. merging the menu items with the title bar.

Successful_Try543 ,

That would not be equivalent to 'remote location', as the files would be stored locally on your computer and being synced with the cloud.

Nice to know, I've always thought BSD is actually UNIX.

The BSD variants are descendants of UNIX developed by the University of California at Berkeley, with UNIX source code from Bell Labs. However, the BSD code base has evolved since then, replacing all the AT&T code. Since the BSD variants are not certified as compliant with the Single UNIX Specification, they are referred to as "UNIX-like" rather than "UNIX".

Successful_Try543 ,

UNIX is trademarked by 'The Open Group', Unix is not. 🙃

To make things more confusing, according to German Wikipedia, Unix is used for Unix-like OSes which are not officially UNIX-certified. 😵‍💫

Successful_Try543 ,

Isn't it the exact opposite, as you are really forced to sit straight and don't lean against the support?

Successful_Try543 ,

Idk, but it could be because the payment of the delivery is done 'via surname' to the postman when the package is handed over. So the bank can't track on what you spend your money on (in case you are afraid they do). This option exists at least in Germany. However, it costs an high extra fee.

That's literally their name in German (Nashorn), Dutch (Neushoorn), and the Nordic languages (S: Noshörning, DK: Næsehorn, N: Na/eshorn).

I'd say yes. According to their German Wikipedia entry, they support Sea Shepherd, environment and wildlife protection, and indigenous people in their fight against deforestation.

Otherwise, the system would at least be in an unstable equilibrium position.

It depends. The seller may note a device ID, e.g. the IMEI of a smartphone, on the invoice.

But one could also use linen, hemp, ramie/urtica/nettle. However, they are more complicated to process and as the results are textiles, they are not windproof or water repellent.

As far as I understand the comment on Wikipedia, Android can be seen as a Linux distribution, but not as a GNU/Linux distribution which we commonly understand as 'real' Linux.

Android is a Linux distribution according to the Linux Foundation, Google's open-source chief Chris DiBona, and several journalists. Others, such as Google engineer Patrick Brady, say that Android is not Linux in the traditional Unix-like Linux distribution sense; Android does not include the GNU C Library (it uses Bionic as an alternative C library) and some other components typically found in Linux distributions.

    Successful_Try543 ,

So it should be the some other components which don't make Android a 'real' Linux according to some definition.

Personally I agree, that the Linux kernel makes a system a Linux system. However, the choice of a specific C library is important as it ensures some kind of binary compatibility between distributions, i.e. download a generic 'GNU/Linux' binary and run it is possible.

    I use Debian btw. ;-)

If you plan to do this on day, here is link to a nice presentation at 37C3 on how to.

    Successful_Try543 ,

Yes, that matches what I've found too. The goats climb into argan trees to eat the fruits. However, farmers place goats in the trees for tourists and force them to stay there all day, which is bad for the goats, as they are subjected to the sun and heat, as well as for the trees, as the hooves damage the bark.
