This is only true if you're still using a 32 bit cpu, which almost nobody is. 64 bit cpus can use up to 16 million TB of RAM.

Until you get to the last book. Then they're self-replicating.

TheRedSpade ,

Installing software on Linux almost never involves "copying and running random bits of code" unless you have a need for some really obscure program. Learn how to use your distribution's package manager.

I made a closely related comment just a few days ago. Odd that it came up again so soon.

With that netherrack texture, they may be on legacy console.

Versions of SteamOS before 3.0 were Debian-based.

One of the grocery stores in my town also had video rental. When they started carrying DVDs, they put the "Be kind, Rewind" stickers on the cases.

Harassment? Once there's physical contact isn't it assault?

Roku explores taking over HDMI feeds with ads (www.lowpass.cc)

Roku is exploring ways to show consumers ads on its TVs even when they are not using its streaming platform: The company has been looking into injecting ads into the video feeds of third-party devices connected to its TVs, according to a recent patent filing.  ...

Kodi is cross-platform, so it doesn't have to run on Linux.

looks like a PS5 interface

I've never actually seen the PS5 interface, but this part of the comment is particularly amusing since Kodi started off as XBMC (XBox Media Center).

TheRedSpade ,

How is it a wholesome comment?

TheRedSpade ,

Huh, only place I've seen/heard it is in Vault Hunters which definitely isn't made by Gen Z. That may be where they got it though. Hard to say as I've never heard anybody use it irl.

GTA V which doesn't work at all

YMMV. Works out of the box on the deck and I don't remember having any problems with it on arch.

Microsoft is once again injecting pop-up ads into Google Chrome on Windows in a bid to get people to switch to Bing (www.theverge.com)

The software giant first introduced malware-like pop-up ads last year with a prompt that appeared over the top of other apps and windows. After pausing that notification to address “unintended behavior,” the pop-ups have returned again on Windows 10 and 11....

Before my PC died, my Index was working under Arch FWIW. Can't speak for other hardware though

I just want to point out that the other commenter's experience isn't universal. My mom lived on a boat for years and loved it. I couldn't do it long term as there's very little space available, but it doesn't have to be a negative experience.

This particular marina had bathrooms with showers up on land which the majority of, if not all, residents used. There was also a restaurant on the water with bathrooms. Electricity and tap water were available at each slip. Heat wasn't necessary, because it was Southern California.

I never knew how much it cost, but I know for a while she lived there while working as a waitress at that same restaurant, so it couldn't have been too expensive.

What's the one between TikTok and Alexa and the one below iCloud?

I'm on between 2 and 4 of those hooks (though one is in pretty deep) depending on what those other 2 are. Though I suspect that if I was using them on a regular basis I'd recognize their logos.

    TheRedSpade ,

That's what I do on a desktop, sure. Isn't an option on mobile though.

    TheRedSpade ,

It's a string that your browser sends to websites with information about the browser itself and your OS. Sometimes that info will be used to block functionality.

Years ago I tried to use TurboTax from Firefox on Ubuntu. It wouldn't work because only Internet Explorer on Windows was supported. I changed the user agent to make it appear as though I was using a supported setup, and it worked flawlessly.

I haven't actually needed to use one in a long time, but an extension search for "user agent switcher" should turn up something that can do it.

It's an audio-only ad platform where they fill unsold time with most of a song or just people talking.

Gender pay gap means women work first two months of the year unpaid - so today is Women's Pay Day (www.thecanary.co)

New Trades Union Congress (TUC) analysis reveals Women’s Pay Day – the day when the average woman stops working for free compared to the average man – is today, Wednesday 21 February. In some industries and in some parts of the country where the gender pay gap is wider, women effectively work for free for even longer...

I'm not familiar with the meme, and it's still obvious one is copying the other. Although, it does make it look like Linux copying Windows rather than the path that reality took.

    TheRedSpade ,

I've been listening to the cover by Turisas for years without even realizing that it's a cover.

    TheRedSpade ,

Considering that's the only version I'd heard and I can barely understand a word of it, why would I not?

    TheRedSpade ,

Isn't axolot the studio behind raft (another excellent game that was in early access for years)?

    TheRedSpade ,

Couldn't you just move to the side a bit?

So, people actually believed that an 18 or 19-year-old developed this revolutionary tech likely requiring several fields worth of knowledge to bring to fruition? I'm not familiar with the story beyond this article, but it sounds like those investors made a bad call. Not that that makes her less guilty of fraud, but if she didn't scam them someone else would have.

As another millenial, this thread is the first time I've heard of Skibidy Toilet, and I'm wondering if I should bother to look up what it is.

    TheRedSpade ,

    What's SFM?

    TheRedSpade ,

For real. The wait is often shorter than the cashiers' lines, and I don't have to interact with anyone. 99% of the time that someone has a problem with them it's user error. Though I do hate that the ones near me can no longer be muted.
