Because only women are worried about becoming step-parents? (This prolly could've been an Ask Lemmy.) (lemmy.world)

I'm looking for some good reading on how to, eventually, best help be a step parent to my partner's children and NEARLY ALL books are geared toward the woman's perspective as though men don't want to be a strong teacher and develop these kids into healthy adults. Ugh!...

It is because men aren’t engaged in parenting nearly as much as anecdotes suggest. I used to work at a family court and like 19 out of 20 men never even bothered to appear in their custody cases. When you go on reddit it’s a huge vast sexist conspiracy against men but in real life they fail to do the absolute bare minimum.

There aren’t any books about it because you are the 1 out of 20 dude and a large percent of that cohort doesn't buy books.

Difference in quality? Yes. Difference in bias? No. The NYT has an extreme neo liberal US oriented business empire bias that as a refugee of the Iran Iraq war and victim of US foreign policy they supported that I don't trust. I also don't trust Breitbart.

The past we know is a carefully crafted and curated story and not at all accurate as it is. It is valuable to learn and understand but also be skeptical. I don't really think wide spread forgery changes that. Historiography is a very important field.

Any serious historical research will have to verify the physical copies exist or existed in a documented way to be admitted as evidence. This is called chain of custody and is already required.

Public opinion can be swayed with a TV advertisement by a game show host and real estate developer. We are all so insanely propagandized now it can't be more so.

The least interesting thing in the world is people complaining about Hexbear, maybe that is why your comments were removed? Why can't you just block their comms and ignore them? Works for me, I have an account on .ml I use that federates with Hexbear and when I see things that I think are uninteresting, stupid or immature I just move on like a normal person.

This was extremely ambitious. I am not a C# developer but I was able to get a LLM to build a really simple app for me to take in input and fill out a table in an azure storage account and then use an azure function to update a document with the information to add to a firewall threat feed for a demo. It took me 3 hours where learning and doing the old fashioned way would have taken me a few days. Cool stuff but not magic, it was like working with a really smart idiot.

yikes what the actual hell, it is seriously disturbing how many people in the comments feel this way

hamid ,
@hamid@lemmy.world avatar

I know why people feel this way, its shocking and upsetting so many people do

I don't think the fact that a small group of people who are easy to manipulate by the US government and millions of edits originating from Langley are a small or invented problem. I'm extremely scared of having resources being centralized and controlled by the US propaganda apparatus and think this is a major problem.

I'm extremely grateful for all the work Ruud and his team has done to make Lemmy.world possible but I see the limitations in it that I didn't understand 9 months ago when I started. My communities are all pretty small and I guess I can just start over but I wish there was a way to migrate my comm to a new instance with my subscriber lists and posts so that I can move my sillyness to a small well maintained instance

hamid ,
@hamid@lemmy.world avatar

How did you do that? Just cross posting everything?

hamid ,
@hamid@lemmy.world avatar

Ah I see, that isn't really what I had in mind, bummer. That to me is starting over which is I guess the plan. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure Microsoft's intent is to drop these non-paying non subscribing customers and let them use Linux. Microsoft is 100% focused on promoting Azure consumption, Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Enterprise Agreement customers and not delivering operating systems for people who won't pay monthly.

They'll continue thru their azure and entra (identity) services regardless of what OS you are on.

hamid ,
@hamid@lemmy.world avatar

True, but I'm just saying Microsoft doesn't care about this segment as part of their current strategy and knowing the OEM business is slowing down year to year. It has been a liability since the XP was running well into the Windows 10 era.

Tons of websites use Azure as their back end. Entra is their IDP service that is often invisible to you and that people can use in their apps to build identity into it. It used to be called Azure AD. These are not public facing technologies, they are PaaS services that developers and hosts use to deliver white labeled products.

I can confirm there is a silent majority of comerads. This is the thread that drove me to be a monthly donor. Thanks for everything.

I have a brother laser printer that I love. I just fill up a tub with generic toner and it keeps printing for almost a decade now. I'm old and like to print things. I think it's much easier to read on paper and I'm happier to print out a 150 page book than read it on a Kindle lol. I've also broken multiple ereaders commuting on trains but still have all the papers I saved in binders I printed and really enjoyed reading and will last nearly forever.

Apple was hoping to white label a Chinese ev and slap an iPad in it but the trade war is too hot now for them to deliver.

Reddit Is Letting Power Users In on Its IPO. Not Everyone’s Buying::Reddit says it wants to reward users by letting them buy into the company’s public listing. Some say it’s too risky—others say they won’t pay a company they’ve already given hours of free labor to.

I got the invite but unprofitable companies don't really make up a large part of my portfolio

I live in a dry climate and very tightly meter my water usage and running the dishwasher twice uses less water than doing it once by hand unless I am extremely careful and use a single basin of water and a rag to rinse. That takes longer and is extremely annoying to do.

I agree with you that the real reason for it is EEE but their justification for it is that for enterprise and corporate customers, the only ones they care about, they can't control Firefox in the same was as they can Edge or Chrome with the Microsoft Account add in which allows the MDM agents like InTune to apply DRM. Their primary concern (so they claim) is the enterprise administrators ability to control the computer, provide settings, configure defender xdr security and all the other bs products they sell.
