He is in the third-party repair business, so it makes sense for him to promote right to repair to protect his industry.

That, and as he often says, in an ideal capitalist world for both producer and consumer, the best way to retain business is to keep the customer happy, and an easy way to do that is to produce a quality product and not screw the consumer over, lest the product break or total itself and the customer go elsewhere for repair or replacement of the broken product. Satisfied customers in the first initial sale can lead to those customers returning often and recommending the business and product to others, leading to much more business (and profit) overall.

Hmm, that sounds expensive. How about I give you a shoddy bomb casing filled with used pinball machine parts and put off worrying about any repercussions until next quarter?

what are you even doing with your life

Based on what he's said here and over on politics, I'd say he's trying to create division using whatever wedge issue he thinks will get the most outrage.

A lot of Redditors hate the Reddit IPO | Reddit warned us that its users were a risk factor, and boy do they sound excited about shorting its stock.::Reddit seems like a likely candidate for a meme stock. But the actual reaction suggests that r/WallStreetBets isn’t going to send the stock to the moon.

The market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent.

There is no indication that the vending machine is inappropriatly storing or transmitting personally identifiable information or that its making decisions based on biased data.

And until the machine malfunctioned, there was no indication that the vending machine was collecting any data at all. Businesses can say whatever they want in the court of public opinion, but until these same claims are made in a court of law they should be considered lies to placate the public.

Furthermore, why even collect such data if it's not meant to be utilized? They already know what the most popular products are (since they know what they restock the most) so for what reason do they need to collect demographics?

if you need any more reason to skip it

Nah, "Substack" was enough for me.

It breaks down significantly when the cost of entry becomes prohibitively expensive.

You think you can build a better toothbrush? Go for it.

You hate your ISP and want to start a new one? Good fucking luck.

Not gonna lie, Gandhi would be pretty low on my list of "people I'd expect to nuke the world."

Not just because he's a nonviolent Hindu, but also because he's dead.

In a two-party-consent state, maybe.

But in a one-party-consent state, all that Personnel Human Resources People Ops will do is point to a clause in your onboarding paperwork where you agreed to be recorded while on company property using company telephony equipment as a condition of your employment.

billiam0202 ,

A two-party-consent state requires both people to consent to being recorded. So even if you (tacitly) agree to being recorded as a condition of your employment, if the person on the other end of the conversation doesn't then it's an illegal recording. That's why it probably wouldn't be an issue in one of those states.

But in a one party state, the other person on the recording doesn't have to consent as long as you do. So as long as you know your conversation is being recorded (again, hypothetically as a condition of employment) the other party (probably) doesn't have any recourse should your employer use a third-party to monitor it.

billiam0202 ,

The article specifically called out "workplace communication platforms" so my comments were more directed at companies monitoring their instances of Zoom/Slack/Teams/etc. But it's a certain bet that Walmart will try to use AI to monitor its breakrooms to make sure nobody says the evil "U" word.

Politicians passing laws based on things they don't understand?

Quelle surprise.

But also:

a protection that's been in place since the 1990s

That's not necessarily a guarantee, c.f. Hyundai and Kia's lack of ignition locks.

That's because you all up there in America Lite hate capitalism, freedom, democracy, eagles, and baby Jesus.

OpenAI wants to raise 5-7 trillion dollars. Yes, Trillion (decrypt.co)

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is in talks with investors, including from the United Arab Emirates, to raise between $5 trillion to $7 trillion in funding. The goal, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal, is to increase the world's chip manufacturing capacity and enhance AI capabilities....

Have you tried something like a Pill Pocket?

My goldie-mutt would spit out every pill I ever gave her no matter how much cheese or peanut butter it was buried in, but since we started using these she gobbles them up instantly. The ding dong thinks she's getting a treat everyday but joke's on her, it's her medicine.

billiam0202 ,

That's probably because your cat chews her food, while my pupper inhales food as if she's never gonna eat again, despite what every past day in her life might indicate. 😂

billiam0202 ,

When my doggo was younger, we would just do that- drop it in the back of her throat then hold her mouth shut and massage her throat to encourage her to swallow. But now that she's on a vet-prescribed regimen for probably the rest of her life, it's just easier to pop a pill in the meat pouch since she just gobbles them up.

Real estate appreciates in value, human resources appreciate in cost. Clearly that's a bad investment. /s

I used to agree with you, but now I really think he's just a narcissist who wants the attention. If Twitter wasn't profitable, the longer he owns it the more money he's going to lose on top of how much he over paid for it. If he really wanted Twitter gone, he could have bought it and just... shut it off.

Like every single techbro, he thinks he's the smartest guy in the room and demands the masses worship him for that. He just was lucky enough to have money to buy an entire platform to stroke his ego.
