If you like chunky and portful check out the MNT Reform

For technical purposes that need to handle both you can just disambiguate it with "Letter (new)" and "Letter (work or school)"

If anyone is considering how to avoid this on their own site: https://indieweb.org/URL_design

Avoiding spyware doesn't mean you're opposed to labor-saving technology

Neither does being a Luddite

They confined their attacks to manufacturers who used machines in what they called “a fraudulent and deceitful manner” to get around standard labor practices. “They just wanted machines that made high-quality goods,” says Binfield, “and they wanted these machines to be run by workers who had gone through an apprenticeship and got paid decent wages. Those were their only concerns.”

The corporations in Wall-E were short sighted and misguided but ultimately well intentioned. We're way off track for Wall-E

brisk OP ,

There are a few PCB drones out there.

Most PCBs, even really cheap ones, are made from FR-4, which is a very robust fibreglass. It's would be a pretty decent choice for drone components in general.

Not drones, but Carl Bugeja on YouTube makes some fascinating machines almost entirely out of PCBs (although he uses a lot of flex PCBs, not just FR-4).

brisk OP ,

I appreciate the ambiguity in your comment created by the missing pronoun.

It's not clear from your post whether you've read the article. In case you haven't, it's not really about printers.

The Northern Territory contains no alligators, and three "Alligator River"s

What non-FOSS software have you been unable to quit?

For me, Google video search, Google books (Internet Archive is good, but doesn't always have the same stuff), Adobe InDesign (but in the process of learning LaTeX), and Typewise. As for the Google stuff, I liked Whoogle a lot, but almost all their instances seem to have been blocked or shut down. Also, apologies if this is...

Podcast Addict
I really want to use AntennaPod, but I can't do without priority podcasts.

Also Feedly. Feeder (FOSS) is so close, but doesn't allow different sorts for different feeds.

Is there anything unsavory about ProtonMail?

For some reason I have it in the back of my mind that they were at one point accused of being a honeypot for US intelligence because of their association with MIT. Probably complete BS, but maybe not. Are they as open source as they claim to be? Looks like they're on github. F-Droid seems to think they have some Google libraries...

FYI Thunderbird now natively supports PGP (and possibly WKD?) without the need for Enigmail.

brisk ,

Who could have ever guessed that naming different software the same thing would ever come back to bite them

brisk ,

Will we ever stop referring to the Web as "the Internet"?

brisk ,

I'll throw in, YouTube channels are all fully functional RSS feeds, and you don't need to interact with YouTube at all to get your subscriptions.

Replaceable caps definitely exist, they are common on glass soft drink bottles where I am. They look just like the plastic lids but in thin sheet metal, complete with perforations and ring.

Some of the screwtop beer bottle style reseal pretty well too.

It doesn't directly answer you but what you're thinking about is the sort of thing addressed by a book I'm a big fan of, Data Oriented Design. It's addressed briefly in the online version here https://dataorienteddesign.com/dodbook/node6.html#SECTION00620000000000000000

Nicotine eCigarettes are still available by prescription

I disagree with the chosen changes , but they come as a result of nicotine being found in the vast majority of "nicotine-free" vapes and juices. So we're not really coming from a position of "choose what goes into your body".

Gender pay gap means women work first two months of the year unpaid - so today is Women's Pay Day (www.thecanary.co)

New Trades Union Congress (TUC) analysis reveals Women’s Pay Day – the day when the average woman stops working for free compared to the average man – is today, Wednesday 21 February. In some industries and in some parts of the country where the gender pay gap is wider, women effectively work for free for even longer...

Not entirely, and those factors constitute part of the pay gap and shouldn't be dismissed out of hand.

A percentage of income still isn't equitable though.

If you're destitute a week's income means you starve.

If you're a millionnaire a week's income stings bit doesn't affect much.

If you're a billionnaire there is a good chance you don't technically have an income, and if you do you can lose half of your wealth without feeling it.

The FTC argued this would happen, it's the court that swallowed Microsoft's tripe. This is the FTC's "I told you, bro!"

“Hague Shmague,” tweeted Netanyahu’s minister of national security, Itamar Ben-Gvir.

Do they not even want to pretend to have credibility?

My only complaint is the suggestion that engineers like to be clear. My undergrad classes included far too many things like 2 cos 2 x sin y

The US Textbook industry single-handedly justifies the existence of Library Genesis (if it requires justification)
