You messed up worse than just getting rid of awards.

reddig33 ,

I see that anti trust / Internet Explorer investigation had no effect at all.

reddig33 ,

Sounds like “that one place” is put together by the lowest bidder.

reddig33 ,

Maybe. Or maybe someone buys them out, or the landlord is given the option to flip them open for free use. The good news is it should leave the infrastructure in place.

reddig33 ,

I’d be fine with that. Hopefully it means grandma stops sending me “funny videos”.

reddig33 ,

I have my doubts it will be cheaper. It’s Comcast.

reddig33 ,

It’ll be cable when they start making you contact customer retention in order to cancel.

reddig33 ,

Where is she getting the money to afford these appeal lawyers? Wasn’t she sued until she was broke?

reddig33 ,

What’s really insane is to think that it’s cheaper to manufacture something like this halfway across the world and then put it on a boat spewing god knows what into the atmosphere just to get it here. Something is broken when rinky dink items like this aren’t manufactured on your own continent.

reddig33 ,

This isn’t just true of capitalism. Greed and laziness exists in most economic systems.

reddig33 ,

Changed well known Square branding to “Block”. Killed Vine just before TikTok took off. Sold Twitter to Elon Musk. Now kicked off the board of Bluesky. What a genius! 🙄

reddig33 ,

Idiots.

reddig33 , (edited )

It should’ve ended well. Someone at the top made a huge bungle of it all. Windows phone 7 and 8 were some of the best phones I’ve owned.

reddig33 ,

Studios shouldn’t be allowed to own the channels. It’s a problem similar to when studios owned the movie theaters.

Jack Dorsey was just a year or two early with Vine it seems.

reddig33 ,

As is “autopilot”. There’s no automatic pilot. You’re still expected to keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road.

reddig33 ,

“But one reason that pilots will opt to turn the system on much sooner after taking off is if it’s stormy out or there is bad weather. During storms and heavy fog, pilots will often turn autopilot on as soon as possible.

This is because the autopilot system can take over much of the flying while allowing the pilot to concentrate on other things, such as avoiding the storms as much as possible. Autopilot can also be extremely helpful when there is heavy fog and it’s difficult to see, since the system does not require eyesight like humans do.”

Does that sound like something Tesla’s autopilot can do?

reddig33 ,

I keep wondering who’s gonna hire away Ben Gomes after they read this.

reddig33 ,

It folds the mirrors in and puts the car in neutral. Stuff like that.

reddig33 ,

Homebridge covers a multitude of mistakes. For every non compatible device, you can usually find a Homebridge plug in that’ll make it work. The only exception I’ve run into is with Chamberlain garage door openers because the company is particularly aggressive about funneling you through their app.

reddig33 ,

But by all means, let’s give Elon that huge bonus he’s asking for! 🙄

I don’t understand why I need AI to find a charger on a map. It’s not like the charger has legs where it gets up and moves to a new location every other week.

Telecoms To Get $45 Billion In Taxpayer Broadband Subsidies, But Are Whining Because They Might Have To Deliver Affordable Broadband To A Few Poor People (www.techdirt.com)

The 2021 infrastructure bill is throwing more than $42 billion at America’s mediocre broadband networks. And while a lot of that money will be put to good use shoring up fiber, a lot of it is…

reddig33 ,

This is in addition to the last two times we gave them billions to build out internet infrastructure.

96% of US Hospital Websites Share Visitor Data with Google, Meta, Data Brokers, and Other Third Parties, Study Finds (www.theregister.com)

Academics at the University of Pennsylvania analyzed a nationally representative sample of 100 non-federal acute care hospitals – essentially traditional hospitals with emergency departments – and their findings were that 96 percent of their websites transmitted user data to third parties....

reddig33 ,

Is the DMV a .com or a .gov? Because it should be a dot gov — but Texas has stupidly put some of their government websites on dot coms.

reddig33 ,

It’s almost as if ICANN doesn’t know what the fuck they’re doing anymore!

reddig33 ,

Or you could just virtualize the machine in an emulator and run it from disk images. 🤷‍♂️

reddig33 ,

Thinking about cost effective solutions, like running it in an emulator on modern hardware with disk images instead of floppies. They’ve probably gone and spent millions on replacing working sensors and writing all new software though.

reddig33 ,

Why the hell do I need this in a web browser? Why isn’t it a stand alone app?

reddig33 ,

Just more unnecessary browser bloat.

reddig33 ,

Sounds like a good time to switch to 5G internet and cancel cable.

reddig33 ,

Sounds like something that should be illegal, if it isn’t already.

reddig33 ,

The Verge has such a hard on for this story. They’ve published like ten articles about it already.

reddig33 ,

Best Buy has really missed an opportunity to stick it to Amazon. They own a huge amount of retail space that could double as warehouse/online order fulfillment. You know you aren’t getting counterfeit merchandise. Returns are simpler thru walk in. You can inspect before purchase.

Instead, you walk into the retail space and they are out of everything. A warehouse should never be empty.

They’ve already announced they’re working on RCS support. Should be interesting to see how they adopt it considering the obstacles like adding encryption support, working through Google’s implementation, etc.

    reddig33 ,

They’ve been bought and sold to the point that all that’s left is their patent portfolio. Their current business strategy appears to be “patent troll”. They’ve been holding industry telecommunications methods hostage instead of negotiating fair use fees.

    Google “nokia lawsuit fair use”.

    reddig33 ,

It’s not just tech titans. Letting media companies megamerge left us with a handful of corporations that control the narrative. Studios shouldn’t be able to own the content, the tv channels, the set top boxes and the wires they’re transmitted on.

    reddig33 ,

Try the app for your grocery. Chances are there are coupons for sone of this stuff on the app. Try fresh or frozen green beans next time. Canned green beans are awful.

    reddig33 ,

They should be cheaper to repair since there are less parts. The added costs are related to design decisions.

When things are welded together instead of paneled, it’s more expensive. When battery packs have to be replaced in their entirety instead of individual packs or cells, it’s more expensive. Etc. Etc.

    reddig33 ,

Oh well. I guess they’ll just have to go bankrupt then.

    reddig33 ,

Lol. There’s no proceeds from taxing power when you’re paying cryptominers not to use it. The grid in Texas is so horribly mismanaged. If we’re going to offer something to these customers, it should be free solar panels to help wean them off the grid.

    reddig33 ,

Before TestFlight was a thing, you could self-sign your own apps (.ipa) and install them to local devices through iTunes over a USB cable connected to the device. The developer signing certificate for this was/is free, included when you sign up for the free version of Apple Developer account.

Nowadays it looks like you can still do this directly from Xcode. See section: “Connect real devices to your Mac”

    https://developer.apple.com/documentation/xcode/running-your-app-in-simulator-or-on-a-device

*The mention of Apple Developer Program in the bullet points of this section is an “if” and is optional. It’s not required for testing apps on local devices.
