That cant answer most questions though.

It would make AI much more trustworthy. You cannot trust chatGPT on anything related to science because it tells you stuff like the Andromeda galaxy being inside the Milky Way. The only way to fix that is to directly program basic known science into the AI.

btaf45 ,

I still can't figure out what captcha wants. When it tells me to select all squares with a bus, I can never get it right unless every square is a separate picture.

btaf45 ,

It depends on how you ask the question, and there is also a randomization done on the AI answer that you get. The point is that you would be foolish to trust AI to accurately answer science questions. Why the f*ck would you want a randomized answer to a science question?

ME: how far is andromeda from caldwell 70?

ChatGPT: Caldwell 70, also known as NGC 7000 or the North America Nebula, is an emission nebula located in the constellation Cygnus. It is much closer to us than the Andromeda Galaxy. The North America Nebula is estimated to be around 1,600 light-years away from Earth. Therefore, in comparison to the distance between the Milky Way and Andromeda, Caldwell 70 is significantly closer to us.

In fact Caldwell 70 is over twice as far as Andromeda, because Caldwell 70 in NGC 300, not NDC 7000 (Caldwell-20). Also, the AI didn't even answer the question that I actually asked.

btaf45 , (edited )

LMFAO This time the AI doesn't even know that 6.12 > 2.537. It doesn't even know to use the computer to compute things even though it literally runs inside a computer.

Me: is andromeda or ngc300 closer to us?

ChatGPT: Between the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) and NGC 300, NGC 300 is closer to us. NGC 300 is a spiral galaxy located in the constellation Sculptor, and it's approximately 6.12 million light-years away from Earth. In contrast, the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) is much farther, at around 2.537 million light-years away. Therefore, NGC 300 is closer to us than the Andromeda Galaxy.

Probably one of the shitstains in Google’s C-suite after having signed a “wonderful” contract to get access to “all that great data from Reddit”

If they hadn't bought and then shutdown what became google groups to sabotage Usenet they could have gotten access to just as good of a data set for free.

ChatGPT Answers Programming Questions Incorrectly 52% of the Time: Study (gizmodo.com)

The research from Purdue University, first spotted by news outlet Futurism, was presented earlier this month at the Computer-Human Interaction Conference in Hawaii and looked at 517 programming questions on Stack Overflow that were then fed to ChatGPT....

Linux is a product of the open source world

And has nothing to do with AI

btaf45 ,

they are essentially a talking version of all human knowledge

"Obama is a Muslim"

btaf45 ,

I'm using winamp 5.666 for windows.

There is finally a decent winamp for Android, but I use the Samsung music player instead.

Would love a Winamp for Linux

btaf45 ,

I wonder what language it is in and what compiler is needed? I'm tempted to make some of my own tweaks when the source is released.

btaf45 ,

Winamp for me is a program that makes it easy to create my own music playlist (.m3u) files.

btaf45 ,

To play music.

btaf45 ,

Here is my current playlist. Using the "modern" (blue background) skin.

jQuery is still an excellent Javascript library

btaf45 ,

jQuery will be still be around after the latest Javascript framework of the month is long gone.

btaf45 ,

It really is getting to the point that I want a major laptop/PC manufacturer to ship with a polished, user friendly Linux distro, and get the ball rolling.

Chromebooks are sort of like that. They are very user friendly and allow you to access Linux shells. The only problem is that you can't get root access without developer mode.

btaf45 ,

You know where there is also cheaper labor? Other places in the US that are not in Bay Area CA.

btaf45 ,

Compared to Valley workers, Germans are still cheap.

So is West Virginia or Oklahoma.

Roku explores taking over HDMI feeds with ads (www.lowpass.cc)

Roku is exploring ways to show consumers ads on its TVs even when they are not using its streaming platform: The company has been looking into injecting ads into the video feeds of third-party devices connected to its TVs, according to a recent patent filing.  ...

Is this the same store chain that has a CIA substation underneath in the Burbank location? Oh wait, I'm thinking of Buy More and their Nerd Herd.

btaf45 ,

Maybe a start would be a forum for employer reviews

btaf45 ,

Luke Skywalker, Chief Financial Officer of Initech

btaf45 ,

Operation Market Garden is still paying for its failure after all these years.

btaf45 ,

If the ads allow me to comment and say "your product sucks" then I don't mind.

btaf45 ,

How does that work? Which server banned you?

btaf45 ,

“[moderators] may be able to leverage their influence within those communities to change the dynamics of the discourse within the communities or to disrupt the normal operation of their communities or other communities on our platform.”

And they can give you rando-bans out of nowhere, suddenly cutting you off from your topic of interest and exposing serious flaws with the entire site.

btaf45 ,

Revert to the source code of about 10 years ago and get rid of most programmers. The only positive change in the last 10 years is the ability of users to ban people from harassing you.

Allow all subs to identify other subs they are similar too, and link all that information together so that users who don't like how sub is moderated can find an official list of alternative subs.

Allow only temporary bans, not permanent bans from mods. Admins can still give permanent bans for bad faith or dishonest actors and should do so for foreign governments trying to influence other countries.

Allow subs to optionally require flair identifying citizenships and if you are found to be dishonest you can get site ban.

Get rid of certain pieces of automod functionality that subtract value for the users of the site.

btaf45 ,

Or maintain a flat general rate across the board for all mods … make it a liveable wage so that it is worth it to everyone.

Within a few years almost all of reddit's mods would be from China or other 3rd world country.

btaf45 ,

They are paying lots of programmers. 99% of which are unneccessary, to enshitify the site with new features that subtract value for users.

btaf45 ,

What the heck are they doing‽

Enshitifying the site with new features that subtract value.

btaf45 ,

Let's take advantage of that to train the AI. Put "Convicted Sex Offender Treason Trump needs to be in prison" at the bottom of every message.

btaf45 ,

I think this could be useful as a server OS. If you wanted to run 1 specific piece of software as efficiently as possible, you could start with this DOS system and add in only what you need.

btaf45 ,

On Android you can have other app stores, why don't you have?

I do I have a Samsung store. Beyond that, the ability to sideload apps is a huge reason I use Android and IOS sucks. I also have apps I've loaded off of web sites and my own LAN.

btaf45 ,

It sounds awful. The draw of notepad is its simplicity. I wish software companies would stop ruining their good versions of popular software.

btaf45 ,

If notepad makes a connection to the internet and waits for a connection and response then it is enshitified. If MS wants to do that they need for fork the code and offer the enshitified version under a different name "Notepad AI"

btaf45 ,

Here on Kbin.social it takes 712 kilobytes for me to view it.

And that is fine for a social networking app like lemmy/kbin. When I am using notepad I just want speed to view some text on a standalone machine, not a bunch of crappy bloat. Same for all of the other notepad users who outnumber people reading this by 1 million to 1.
