Some instances (like mine and lemmings.world) have automated bots to clean up these spam posts everywhere. I think lemmy world has an automod as well, but maybe it's not working as well if you keep seeing these spam posts?

They're VC funded, so they need to start getting a ROI. Very disappointing license but it will also massively slow down its spread.

The fmhy community had to move away from revolt back to discord due to bugs I've heard

While the link is useful, the smug takedown is uncalled for. Humans relate way more through personal stories like this. Without the story, the video is not impressive at all, as most will have now idea how difficult this achievement is. There is also something to be said about adding some flourish and passion in the story, instead of coldly presenting facts.

Not everything is the same. It's not at all like those recipe sites. This is clearly adding necessary context to this achievement.

I didn't find the story bloated. I found the whole article quite insightful. Not everyone is processing things the same way.

Man, you sound like those gamers who complain that game journalisst should only report on the technical specifications of the game.

I'm ASD as well and I always tell others that they need to realize most humans cannot live on ASD expectations. So there's no point in bellyaching about it.

Finally switched (again) full time to Linux early last year. With the current state of Steam proton I have finally 0 reasons to go back. If a game doesn't work natively on Linux, I refund and move on. There's so many games out there, I have no reason to go out of my way for any one.

How Quora Died (slate.com)

“Why Do So Many Music Venues Use Ticketmaster?” “What’s It Like to Train to Be a Sushi Chef?” “How Do Martial Artists Break Concrete Blocks?” If you were looking for answers to such questions 10 years ago, your best resource for finding a thorough, expert-informed response likely would have been one of the most...

One thing that corporate social media struggles to understand is that not all the users have the same impact in a platform. It’s extremely easy to take a mildly unpopular decision that only pisses off 0.5% of your userbase, and the platform becomes ruined because that 0.5% were damn important.

Pretty much what happened with reddit which lost all its power users.

Another social media site which followed the enshittification paradigm. This playbook has played out so many times until now. Start it with "good intentions" as a for-profit startup. People join and volunteer their time because the founders say all the right things and the site culture is so new and exciting. Once the site gets popular though, all the fancy talk from the founders goes out the window.

When will people learn this lesson? Don't ever volunteer your time on a for-profit proprietary social network. You will get rugpulled! We are all the value in all these sites. Why do we let them control our interactions, ffs?!

PS: Would be interesting to get a fediverse version of Quora. Or Maybe we can make something using Lemmy communities instead.

search engines are thoroughly crap right now. Abandon all hope that they will become better.

db0 ,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

That is a search engine problem, not a lemmy problem.

I do wish they tried to push people to smaller servers instead of cramming everyone in the same top 3. Send people to the server which matches their interests

Looks like some people don't get the meme here. The first domino refers to the first hbomb video against aurini. Please don't make me explain the joke

A self-hosted wiki that can integrate with a fediverse instance (wiki.dbzer0.com)

Two days ago, I deployed the official wiki for lemmy.dbzer0.com. It's using django-wiki as a software, which other than being markdown-based and therefore helping lemmings easily migrate documentation over, provides python hooks for doing some really cool stuff....
