Apparently for some people (my mom) the search or filters work better on Temu. No idea why, I only ever use AliExpress.

exu ,
@exu@feditown.com avatar

Ok, that's fair. I just use the english terms anyways and usually also change the interface language to english.

BTW, I did fix the error. Turns out I was in a public network and the rule only applied to domain networks.
Also these fucking rules don't show in the usual GUI, you have to look into the registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\Mdm\FirewallRules

Get a cheap VPS and set up a VPN of your choice.

I mean it sucks for him, but after having been away for three months with more leave time coming the company probably doesn't have any obligation to keep him hired.

At least that's the case here in Switzerland (if you worked for a company long enough) and I'd be surprised if the US had better protections.

I don't know of any project that already supports that AI processor. You'd still be using the CPU and GPU at the moment.

exu ,
@exu@feditown.com avatar

I can really recommend XCP-ng. For me it strikes a pretty good balance of features and ease of use.

You mean to tell me nhentai is your model porn site?

exu ,
@exu@feditown.com avatar

A lot of the stuff you get on nhentai is sometimes questionable. Like 12y/o looking sister questionable.
And what exactly did nhentai figure out that Pornhub didn't?

exu ,
@exu@feditown.com avatar

You mean just not caring or something else?
Thing is, you can't just do that as a registered corporation, even if you're from another country.

There are basically two different approaches to drivers. Windows will have some very basic drivers built-in, but most of them are downloaded and installed when a component that requires them is detected in current versions of Windows.

Linux on the other hand includes every driver it knows about out of the box. You won't ever need to install additional drivers if the hardware is supported. This makes Linux an excellent portable system, you can just take a drive out of one pc with an AMD CPU and Nvidia GPU and put it into one with an Intel CPU and AMD GPU without driver issues*.

*as long as you stick to the included drivers

You can pay ARM to build and sell cores, you can't do that for x86.

exu ,
@exu@feditown.com avatar

Usually you can get the kernel source for Qualcomm at least, MediaTek tho...

New stuff gets called AI until it is useful, then we call it something else.

exu ,
@exu@feditown.com avatar

And 2d, who self host on a server/VPS they rented somewhere.

exu ,
@exu@feditown.com avatar

Using whatever works better for the current project is doing Hybrid Cloud. Now your boss can brag about how modern the infrastructure is.

exu ,
@exu@feditown.com avatar

An active fork (last I checked) would be hyfetch.

exu ,
@exu@feditown.com avatar

You can install Wireguard or another VPN to encrypt your traffic to the VPS.

    I'm not sure how involved Micay still is with GrapheneOS, but he did seemingly talk in the name of the foundation this march in discussions of Mozilla Location Service being retired.

    https://github.com/mozilla/ichnaea/issues/2065#issuecomment-2001175420

    And he still feels the need to attack other projects. (Last paragraph)

    If I had a Pixel I'd probably still try it, but not sure how well they'd like me rooting and customizing the device.

    It feels like I heard that somewhere before and looking at my profile, I did cancel Jellyfin at some point.

    I supported Finamp for a while until they removed sponsoring, guess I'll do Findroid now.

    exu ,
    @exu@feditown.com avatar

    And they now have a working release pipeline, so releasing often is easier.

    You'll want to install a reverse proxy of your choice on the VPS. Have clients access it over ipv4 and configure it to proxy pass it to your ipv6 address. Nginx at least is capable of doing ipv4 & ipv6 -> ipv4, I think the inverse should also be possible.

    You can use OpenCL instead of ROCm for GPU offloading. In my tests with llama.cpp that improved performance massively.

    Definitely do benchmarks for how many layers you can offload to the GPU. You'll see when it's too many, as performance will crater.

    By launching llama.cpp as a server you'll actually be able to continue to use openwebui as you currently have.

    It's probably still more efficient to keep a 192k opus and a 320k mp3 around than one flac.

    I remember a HackerNews comment by the lead XFCE dev about how KDE was actually better optimized, because they have so many more devs working on it.

    exu ,
    @exu@feditown.com avatar

    Yes. I use a hacky script to copy them to the right place

    I don't know how good it is, but for Turing and later GPUs there's a new official open source driver being developed. You'd likely have to use a more bleeding edge distro to get that.

    VR works depending on your headset. Index is fine, Oculus doesn't work.

    You could make a usb stick of your desired distro and test everything without permanent changes before commiting.

    Apple's Wifi router database: Surveilling the Masses with Wi-Fi-Based Positioning Systems (www.cs.umd.edu)

    Apple's huge database, which usually records the locations of Wi-Fi base stations to the nearest metre, has apparently been exploited without hindrance: With little effort, attackers are able to create a ‘global snapshot’ of all the location data of the WLANs recorded there. This allows them - over a longer period of time -...

    @exu@feditown.com avatar

    With Mozilla Location Services going away soon, I'm wondering at the legality of using the Apple data to seed a replacement.

    exu ,
    @exu@feditown.com avatar

    Yeah, they're more power hungry, but they're also way more performant than a pi 4.

    On my phone (Android, LineageOS) there's an option in the hotspot settings to allow clients to use the active VPN.

    VAAPI is the "standard" interface for hardware en-/decoding on Linux. It should work with any GPU using the open source drivers and mesa.

    I don't know how QSV can be installed; AMF, the AMD equivalent, is limited to their proprietary driver.

    exu ,
    @exu@feditown.com avatar

    Syncing two instances sounds like a fun challenge. I think there's some project to replicate an sqlite db over the network. Similarly, you could use ceph or other distributed storage for the media.

    I built something like this for Nextcloud a few years back, fun times.

    I know at least one pr that wasn't (still hasn't been?) merged for years; Proper 8-bit color sequence support.

    As a user it's definitely harder to get into than apt or dnf. However, as a packager, it's very easy to package new applications for pacman. That's also why the AUR offers this many packages often not found in other distros.

    exu ,
    @exu@feditown.com avatar

    Generally /usr should be managed by the package manager, /etc is for global custom configs and the user home is user specific.
    /var shouldn't really be config, mostly logs or webservers for some reason.

    exu ,
    @exu@feditown.com avatar

    Actually that's RMS getting older. Afaik only GNU rm protects the root.

    exu ,
    @exu@feditown.com avatar

    Is this still an issue with UEFI nowadays? The other bootloader should still be selectable in the bootmenu if it wasn't overwritten.

    exu ,

    Have you never just run an nmap of the whole network and made a list of ip addresses that are occupied?
