This won't apply to everywhere, but near me (in the UK), the council removed some of our bus lanes and cycle lanes last year, to appease some angry car babies, and possibly Rishi "We're a nation of car drivers" Sunak.

It's now difficult to safely cycle to the city centre.

At commuter times, the bus can now take 45 minutes for a 40 minute on-foot journey. Used to be 10 - 15.

The buses also get stuck in traffic at various earlier points in their route, so may be 10 - 30 minutes late or cancelled. This was already a problem, because the bus company is appalling, but it's got worse since some of the bus lanes are gone. Very little chance of using this to get to work on time, or to get to the train station if you're working out of town.

I'm not surprised bus and cycle usage is down. I walk instead, but I imagine many others can't afford the extra hour of travel time every day and are now driving again.

So... on average late 30s/early 40s? So it's actually a Lemmy post, rather than a Reddit post?

fakeman_pretendname ,

I think it goes futher than that, and it's "not Heathcliff, with Heathcliff" on a weekend.

Removing Heathcliff (character) from Heathcliff (comic) during the week.

Adding Heathcliff (character) to a random Unrelated cartoon/comic on the weekend.

I imagine the original comic had a plain white canvas.

That's okay, you can still install Linux on Apple computers 👍

fakeman_pretendname ,

Your can conjure them up quite easily.

  1. Go to Steam Forums for a game that doesn't support Linux
  2. Post a new thread, politely asking about the possibility of native Linux support
  3. A Windows fanboy appears to tell you that you are wrong
  4. Warning: Since the introduction of the Steam Deck, it's a bit harder to conjure up a Windows fanboy on the Steam forums, so you might have to try on a couple of game forums to conjure up your Windows fanboy.

Was one of the records "Largest Dwarf Fortress Fort with a playable frame rate"?

fakeman_pretendname ,

You can mod almost everything in Dwarf Fortress, down to the shear strength of a single beard hair - but you can't mod the threading :)

Ah man, looking at those bullet points I realize I've got the first two down pat

No you haven't.

MY MIDDLE NAME IS LOOT PACKS MCGEE

No it isn't.

It's pretty mainstream in Lemmy Terms. On Lemmy, to be a niche computer user, you need to be running FreeBSD, Gnu/Hurd, TempleOS or still be running AmigaOS :)

fakeman_pretendname ,

It's fine, you're doing well. You just need a few comments back and forth, then you start your fourth comment with "well, actually I think you'll find...".

On the fifth comment, you need to attack a minor spelling or grammatical error they have made.

Sixth comment, try and sound like you're reasonable, and they're obviously not... then it's a race!

First person to compare their opponent to "basically Hitler" wins!

You should receive between 100 and 1000 argument XP, depending on the level of your opponent (you get about 10% more for a victory, but you can still level up if you lose every time).

I love that someone wrote a poem about our cats. Thank you.

I think they'll like it too - I fear they're growing tired of me singing "Who's a little black/stripey/silver cat with a fluffy little nosey-wose, who is a cat with a fluffity tail" to the tune of "Ride a White Swan" by T-Rex.

fakeman_pretendname ,

They actually all lie about different things.

Grey cat likes to lie to get into the room you're in, if the door is closed, by pretending there's a horrific emergency on the other side of the door. "Help! Help! Let me into the bathroom with you! My agony shall not subside until I have access to this room! I am ill! I am dying!"

Stripey cat likes to open cupboard doors, cardboard boxes and then hunt, kill and eat pouches of wet cat food, then pretend it wasn't him at all, and he is hungry and hasn't eaten for days.

Black cat likes a more traditional "I've not been fed yet, I am starving", and also "I have no idea how the water bowl ended up upside down, but it looks like we're out of water again".

Thankfully, none of them will scratch or bite (at least not me or my partner). Black and stripey will both gently push your hand away when they've had enough tummy-tickle-time. Grey cat can be tickled for at least ten minutes. He just waits for you to get bored.

They're all boys (and twin brothers) and they're all equally adorable, although maybe that one's a little more equal than the others :)

Looks great, thanks! :)

Looking at some of the
Excerpts from "I could pee on this and other poems by cats", I think ours are actually very well behaved (so far!).

I can almost cope with those in comparison to the pronunciation of ball and wall.

Bawawoo

Wawawoo

Bouncing a ball on a wall?

Barn sing a bawawoo on a wawawoo

fakeman_pretendname ,

I might have exaggerated it a bit, but some of the Southern accents (at least the cockney-ish ones) pronounce "L" at the end of some words as a sort of weird double-W sound, like "wwoow".

I personally find it troubles my ears a bit more than "grarse" and "barth" etc.

Music Piracy Is Back, Baby (gizmodo.com)

"Muso, a research firm that studies piracy, concluded that the high prices of streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music are pushing people back towards illegal downloads. Spotify raised its prices by one dollar last year to $10.99 a month, the same price as Apple Music. Instead of coughing up $132 a year, more consumers...

If you use the NewPipe android app to watch youtube, you can download directly from there, as video or audio, in a selection of formats.

fakeman_pretendname ,

Or Pictures at an Exhibition (wikipaedia link) by Modest Mussorgsky?

(Especially the Emerson, Lake & Palmer version) (Youtube link)

In the UK at least, "Picture" is totally fine shorthand, even today, to refer to a flat 2D thing that might be put on a wall in a gallery, whether it be a painting, drawing, photograph etc. More formally it would tend towards being a figurative (rather than abstract) work.

Make the car cost £400 more, once, when it's bought first hand. That will cover any costs for the lifetime of the vehicle. There you go, chuck the subscription in the sea.

fakeman_pretendname ,

You can fix both of those problems in the same evening :)
