it also proxies the video and blocks trackers iirc, giving you some form of anonymity from Google

iPhones And Androids Can Now Warn You of 'Secret Trackers' (www.ibtimes.co.uk)

In a collaborative effort, Apple and Google have developed an industry-standard detection feature called "Detecting Unwanted Location Trackers" (DULT) for Bluetooth trackers. This standard allows users on iOS and Android devices to be alerted if an unknown Bluetooth tracker is monitoring their location.

Aren't most of the data the NSA collects from third parties like Google and Apple who already sell that data? can't anybody theoretically buy that data if its being sold? much like the mobile US carrier's were doing

helpmyusernamewontfi ,

problem is most people do. anybody remember watch dogs?

helpmyusernamewontfi ,

what's so "new" about this concern? I'd probably be able to afford a house if I had a dollar for every article I saw on Tesla's wrecking or nearly wrecking because of FSD.

helpmyusernamewontfi ,

brother I'm American and I didn't even know you could buy waffle maker machines until a few months ago, I thought they were all frozen

helpmyusernamewontfi ,

imagine not being a gigachad bringing your nintendo 3ds, that actually has a physical switch to disable wireless communication and can record videos and take pictures that totally don't look like they're from 2011

helpmyusernamewontfi ,

Gaming.

if you game on Linux you wanna go with bazzite, games "just work" on there without any tweaking or fixing or patching. And in the rare case you do need to patch a game like gmod, they have a built in script for it like ujust fix-gmod

helpmyusernamewontfi ,

No, if it's working for you, why bother? Unless you're the adventurous distro hopper, stick to what's working for you. I'd only take the time to switch my home to bazzite if Nobara started causing problems.

helpmyusernamewontfi ,

what?

helpmyusernamewontfi , (edited )

There's no emulation. Worst case scenario, the game is using Microsoft's proprietary DirectX graphics API, so we translate those calls to Vulkan or OpenGL with DXVK. That's simply out of our control since we cannot see or modify the code, but everything else is running on Linux.

Intel actually uses DXVK on Windows for better compatibility and performance for their Arc GPU's.

helpmyusernamewontfi ,

I've been on fedora for quite awhile, what makes tumbleweed better or unique? might try it sometime

helpmyusernamewontfi OP ,

yeah just like Chromium technically speaking

helpmyusernamewontfi OP ,

damn I wish I lived where you lived

helpmyusernamewontfi OP ,

based asf

helpmyusernamewontfi OP ,

its most definitely the lesser, but there are still many people who would suck off Samsung and Google if they had the opportunity to.

trust me I've met them

helpmyusernamewontfi OP ,

Foss ftw baby

helpmyusernamewontfi OP ,

Fanboys are not the same as people flaunting wealth.

while they are not the same, a lot of people who use either Apple or Samsung are both, and will constantly fight against right to repair when they don't know what they're even talking about, for very stupid reasons, and constantly fight against open standards that are just better, like using type-c for their products, etc etc. these people buy iPhones for the image of wealth, I agree, but these same people also argue about its apps and ecosystem's and argue that rich, trillion dollar companies are fine and pose no threat, because it is completely fine to be a monopoly and choke hold the industry. they defend their status symbol in every opportunity they get, and often times I've seen them make it personal, probably because its personal for them.

sometimes I see these same people who buy Apple as a show of "wealth," get into those political arguments when they just have no idea what they're talking about, because for some reason they want to defend the status symbol Apple or Samsing is even if it kills people and the planet.

That's just my observation over the years.

helpmyusernamewontfi OP ,

yeah, again, just like Chromium technically speaking.

Let's use the lesser, Foss version of Google's product so they can continue to have a monopoly, so then later they can force you to install a proprietary blob or account apps or services need.

helpmyusernamewontfi OP ,

like I said I wish I lived where you lived

helpmyusernamewontfi OP ,

nothing lesser about grapheneos or lineageos at all.

iirc there are problems with trying to use some mainstream apps on these operating systems. When I say lesser I don't mean to demean them, I mean they're the lesser used and not really known about alternative and thus not really supported unless you can live your life in f-droid which if so, kudos to you, you're livin' the dream.

but im all ears if you have a usable alternative for a foss phone.

https://postmarketos.org/

helpmyusernamewontfi OP ,

while I agree, signal is also on Linux and is a more polished alternative

helpmyusernamewontfi OP ,

wdym condescension? sorry if I'm being rude that isn't my intention

helpmyusernamewontfi OP ,

without software, what is hardware? same vice versa, you need good software and hardware to match for a good user experience.

stock android's software is extremely shit, bloated, and slow. but I guess that goes for every out of the box os these days ¯_(ツ)_/¯

helpmyusernamewontfi OP ,

bruh

as a linux user I am embarrassed they didn't know

helpmyusernamewontfi ,

Support small refurbishing shops online and buy your phone used from them, and put Linux or another Android fork such as Calyxos or Graphene on them. Works great for me.

helpmyusernamewontfi ,

blah! Android forks!

postmarket os is where it's at!

or Ubuntu Touch if you're... that type of person.

helpmyusernamewontfi ,

purism is literally a scam company and shouldn't be promoted

helpmyusernamewontfi ,

wasn't the same thing said about ATM's? and then it created the need for banks to hire more employees?

iirc, technology/robots has only been able to create more jobs, right? or am I misinformed?

helpmyusernamewontfi ,

The problem I have with this though is if enough people on Firefox spoof their user agent to Chrome, it's gonna look like less and less people are using Firefox and Chrome will eventually have a monopoly.

helpmyusernamewontfi ,

Sorry I dont really understand your point, it could be my bad English.

I'm gonna explain my point further; You can make it look like you're using Chrome when you're not, and if everyone just makes it look like they're using Chrome, then developers will only support Chrome and Google can and will pull off whatever shit they want to like Web DRM, just under a different name which they've done in the past.

So the minority using Firefox won't have proper support and will see more pop ups like these from more websites. The only difference being whatever feature the website needs actually won't be supported on Firefox because developers only see that everyone is using "Chrome".

helpmyusernamewontfi ,

sadge.

helpmyusernamewontfi ,

both have become extremely shitty and bloated, in my personal pov

postmarketos ftw
