As a more progressive guy who owns solar panels, drives an EV, and been moving over to plant based meat substitutes a few times a week, yeah, I do miss the era of the old cars, they had style along with their absolutely crap gas mileage.

Don't miss the overt racism that went along with it of course.

Okay, show me a list of high end products that last with our society of corporate planned obsolescence.

My friend just picked up a 50+ year old joiner and drill press that still works like a boss. Meanwhile, my Delta drill press that I've had for less than a decade has already started acting up.

I'll grant you that higher priced items will last longer than the harbor freight stuff, the Sam Vimes 'Boots' Theory of Socio-Economic Unfairness still apply in this day and age, but it's not anywhere near the build quality and maintainability that things used to be, at least that's what I've noticed.

Again, the Sam Vimes 'Boots' Theory of Socio-Economic Unfairness still holds but planned obsolescence where shit, even good shit, falls apart more readily than before.

Sure there could be survivor bias as you state but I still own a crap ton of stuff inherited from the 50/60/70's that's holding up much better than today's cheap plastic junk and items that are literally designed to fall apart, including your dewalts, deltas, milwalkees, mikatas. Not saying that planned obsolescence wasn't a thing back then, it certainly was but it's a fuck ton more prevalent now than it was back then and repairing, something that today's companies are actively fighting consumers against makes it even worse in today's throwaway culture.

That and I still think that the OP of this conversation thread is a bit of pretentious dick.

Can't blame them but at the same time, yeah kind of sad they folded as easily as a Nintendo DS.

I will say Nintendo can count on me, a older game with disposable income and kids, not buying a switch 2 with they way they've been acting with all of their lawsuit and anti-consumer practices.

So been working as a software engineer for twenty years now and seen the steady decline of workers. Started out as the last straggler for a pension, rapid decline of insurance, crap ass 401ks, the lack of employee investment and the chacing of the median salary.

I tell every new hire to spend a year here, get your experience, then look for another job, come back a few months later if you really like the work.

I mean honestly, fuck these corporations, they don't care or have loyalty to their employees and you can be screwed with a 401k anywhere so get you pay bump and fuck their expectations of loyalty.

I use them in my job and I find them better than the software only solution and I like them when I have to use them for sensitive file transfers.

My experience in the past twenty years on both the looking and hiring end is that ultimately I don't think AI changes anything.

You've just replaced humans in HR that have no fucking clue what to look for and relied on algorithms and key word searches to filter out the good people to just going to directly to algorithms that will do the same shit job.

I mean caveat emporium applies here and if you want cheap storage from Amazon sponsored cheap ass flash drive or when microcenter branded drivers by the checkout, those have always been the risks.

And honestly, as long as you understand that cheap shit is cheap components, I really don't have a problem with this since this saves these chips from being instant e-waste and puts it to use.

Still got a handful of these no-name microcenter SD and USB drives going strong along with those that have up the ghost.

You pay for x number of simultaneous streams it shouldn't fucking matter who the hell are using it, it's still x number of simultaneous streams.

But hey streaming was good while it lasted and a VPN is cheaper after all.

Mind you that it can get these frame rates at the low setting. While this is pretty damn impressive for a APU, it's still a very niche market type of APU at this point and I don't see this getting all that much traction myself.
