They can pry my kroner from my cold dead hands!

But seriously, you're right. What makes it even stranger is that the value of kroner is pegged at 746,038 kroner pr. 100 euro. Which, basically, is just euros with extra steps.

Building My Home Server | Kev Quirk (kevquirk.com)

I came across this blog today while searching and I'm finding it very detailed, human, and instructive. For a beginner like me, this kind of resource is invaluable. What does a server failure feel like at a personal level? How do you make decisions about cost or utilizing existing hardware? These kind of thoughtful reflections...

nis ,

The post is five years old. A lot have changed in that time.

I'm not sure if I would call the post "very detailed". An overview, at best.

nis ,

Plexs movement away from selfhosters.
Cloudberry is now MSP360, and I can't tell what it actually does.

The author actually went back to a Synology NAS after one and a half year of using this server.

nis ,

I just added two temperature probes to a esp32 using esphome in HA. It's going to measure the temperatures in a still 🙂

nis ,

I use 2Do on my iphone and like it. I'm pretty sure i haven't paid for it. At least I can't remember paying, and can't find a receipt either in my mails nor the appstore.

nis ,

You are right. I found the receipt in App Store. I bought it in 2022 at a 50% discount campaign. Sorry to get your hopes up.

nis ,

So... Did you find documentation about how to do that?

nis ,

Attaching the caps to the bottles fixes a problem.

The lost fishing gear is another problem.

Fixing one will not fix the other. Fixing one helps. Fixing both helps more.

nis ,

Yes. Deposits for recyclable bottles also fixes a problem. Seems like we are fixing problems all over the place :)

nis ,

Another fix for the problem! Lets do them all! Every bit counts :)

nis ,

At home I'll use Forgejo, but at work I'll set up Gitea for my department where we are forced to work in a Windows infrastructure.

I would like to be able to use Forgejo both places.

nis ,

I may be misreading your post, but it seems like your argument against Unraid is that they "rolled their own" which is why you'd never use it and instead "roll your own"?

nis ,

I think AI will help alot with the boring stuff, and leave the bigger/interesting/more creative work to us. It will take some to work all this out, though.

When i went to school as a kid, the degree i got at university didn't exist yet. When i finished university the job i now have didn't exist yet. The world has always, and will always, change.

nis ,

Yeah. They exist. Here is the only video clip of one. It is dramatically slowed down. It shows the reaction of the Fast Loris just before attacking its prey. (The cameraman did not survive)

nis ,

...ice which has never been polluted by any human being.

shows picture of human being polluting said ice

nis ,

Ah yes. The famous write-only backup solution :D

nis ,

Same here. My Kobo Libre 2 syncs with it over Wifi. It's nice.

Hosting websites over 4g

I have been hosting a few websites from my home server and it has taught me a lot. I have recently had major issues with the electrical storms, Kogan NBN support (Australia), and the NBN network in general. I know 4g is not fast, but I would like to use it so that in the event of a network outage, im not at the mercy of NBN. On...

I'm using Headscale for something similar.
I have a VPS and a server at home. Both are on the same Headscale network.
On the home server I set up a Matrix server. On the VPS I set up Caddy as a reverse proxy for the home server with its Headscale IP.
It works nicely.

I'm not on 4G, though.

nis ,

Your Grandma's WiFi is so bad the image is not loading for me :D
