I've shucked probably 100s of those WD essentials and they just had a little SATA -> USB adapter on it. It's been a few years but it doesn't seem like they'd make a whole new PCB just to include USB.

Pretty sure I remember people saying this kind of stuff would happen as soon as deepfakes started being a thing accessible to the public.

We really don't have any solution to this yet. The tech is advancing so quickly at this point; every other month there's a significant jump in capabilities. I feel like the cat is out of the bag, photorealistic AI images are available to the home user with virtually no technical restrictions or limits and no amount of regulation is going to put the genie back in the bottle.

I agree with everything you said but I don't actually see a solution you've posted. Yes we could grow up and have a more mature view of sex and the human body but that doesn't change the ease of access or manufacturing potentially illegal material right now.

    I tell my trans and PoC friends as often as I can (without being obnoxious), now is the time. Arm yourself, get a gun or two (a long one and a short one), learn how to use them. Start networking with like-minded people in your community. Get some basic first aid training (medics really just need to know how to stabilize someone). The police will not protect us, that much has been shown; they would sooner club an old man to the ground than render aid to someone upsetting the status quo. When this country begins to fracture and fall apart, ourselves and our communities are the only things that can truly protect us.

    Prepping for a natural disaster is a good idea.

    Having some non-perishable food, batteries (and candles), water, meds/important documents, etc tucked away for an earthquake or tornado is a lot different than stockpiling guns and ammmo; hoping for the end times so you can become a raider or something.
