Some people experience some things more than others. I believe that's how they place you on the spectrum

nyctre ,

Look, at this point it's just an agree to disagree thing. You think it's ok for companies to do irreversible operations as long as subjects are desperate enough to consent. Others think that's abusive. There's obviously no changing your mind. That's ok, just move on.

And no. If you've spent any amount of time here then you know that a ton of people here are also against bezos and pretty much every other billionaires out there.

And for what it's worth, I do see your point. And I'd probably be inclined to agree. But at the same time, I do see the fact that it's morally questionable

nyctre ,

Oh. I thought that was a lollipop. This changes things.

All the ways streaming services are aggravating their subscribers this week (arstechnica.com)

Below is a look at the most exasperating news from streaming services from this week. The scale of this article demonstrates how fast and frequently disappointing streaming news arises. Coincidentally, as we wrote this article, another price hike was announced....

nyctre ,

Yeah, that could be true. But seeing as how 99% of companies are following the same business model of squeezing more and more profit out of people, I'm gonna go with Occam's razor on this one and say they're most likely just trying to make more money because they can. As long as it keeps working, they'll keep doing it.

nyctre ,

Just listen to cattle decap. The morally superior band. Kidding. They're pretty great tho, more people should listen to cattle decapitation. Especially the later albums which are more approachable

Fairbuds are Fairphone’s proof that we really could make better tiny gadgets (arstechnica.com)

But of course we all know that the big manufacturers don't do this not because they can't but because they don't want to. Planned obsolescence is still very much the name of the game, despite all the bullshit they spout about sustainability.

nyctre ,

Does that include fairphone's explanation for the removal of the headphone jack? Cause to me it sounds reasonable. It could be bs, sure, but I don't think it is.

nyctre ,

I believe they're saying you do. I also believe you are also saying you do. Perhaps we're mistaken.

nyctre ,

"don't do thing that leads to bad thing". When the thing in the comic that lead to bad things was walking down the street.

nyctre ,

Could you give me a recent source about these kidnappings? And if it's the unaccompanied immigrant children which haven't been kidnapped, then please don't even bother.

nyctre ,

"The Supreme Court ordered Abbott to let Border Patrol remove the razor wire barriers. Instead—acting in defiance of the president, the Supreme Court, and federal authorities—Abbott installed more." ... Then some stuff about congress blocking decisions.. dunno... Doesn't sound like it's all on Biden. Especially since, like most of the stuff that people are complaining about, it stated with Trump. And it's been getting better just not fast enough. Which, again, not saying Biden is doing his best, but it doesn't sound like it's all his fault, does it?

nyctre ,

Maybe I misunderstood but how is it Biden continuing doing it when they're actively trying to improve the situation but congress is blocking change and even when they sued Texas and the supreme court ordered them to take down the fences they still put up more because of the gop scum governor? If after all that you still think it's all Biden's fault then whatever, one of us is wrong, neither will admit it, but at least those that read the comments can make up their own minds. Have a nice day.

Just let him tire himself out and then ram into his side with a shoulder? Or kick him in the nuts or something? He's 80.. can't imagine he's got much speed or stamina left.

nyctre ,

Because when you give most people the choice of convenience vs privacy, they'll choose the thing that they can feel 99 times out of 100(convenience ). Most people don't care about metadata because first of all they have no idea that's even a thing, let alone what it does. And they're not visibly affected by it. The difference between using signal and Whatsapp for the vast majority of people is the fact that one is green and has everyone you know on it and the other is blue and nobody besides me uses it.

But, if you give signal the convenience of being able to use it with everyone, then the choice becomes "do I wanna use this app that my friend is saying is spying on me or do I wanna use the secure, hacker app?"

And hopefully, more and more people will switch and we can be rid of fucking meta

It doesn't really need to perform well financially. He can sell everything as soon as it goes public and retire

AI hiring tools may be filtering out the best job applicants (www.bbc.com)

an AI resume screener had been trained on CVs of employees already at the firm, giving people extra marks if they listed "baseball" or "basketball" – hobbies that were linked to more successful staff, often men. Those who mentioned "softball" – typically women – were downgraded....

nyctre ,

I'm no expert but in my experience most CVs follow the following format: personal info (name, contact info, etc), studies, past jobs, skills, extras (hobbies and such)

nyctre ,

Right fair. They're usually sorted by date. Some do it ascending others do it descending

nyctre ,

How did this post help you figure out the instance name? I don't see the connection

nyctre ,

Person below us posted a pic of some sharks around a table. That's a plushie that Ikea sells. Its name is blåhaj (swedish for blue shark).

nyctre ,

How do teams get into the NFL? Could she buy a non-nfl team and bring it up to NFL standards and then win the Superbowl with it? I'm not asking if it's realistic, just, you know, curious if it could be attempted like rich guys do in soccer

nyctre ,

Wow, thanks for the detailed reply. Yeah, super expensive...

nyctre ,

Same appeal as all the other decent hospital/cop shows of the time. Just because some of the tech scenes were did poorly on purpose doesn't mean the rest of it is equally bad. The cast, dialogue and plot were fine. Not sopranos or whatever, but definitely not "drivel". Not everything needs to be super serious all the time.

Edit: lul, the guy actually questioned his father's intelligence because they enjoyed NCIS. What sort of person judges others for their taste in art/hobbies? Jfc.

nyctre ,

Was it like those people that enjoy watching interviews/documentaries with serial killers or was it more like those people that write them love letters?

nyctre ,

Yes, because the first guy who lit a fire on purpose was like: "you want warm? You give food! Else fuck off!"

The age at which you meet has nothing to do with it. Healthy relationships are about evolving together. If you can't do that or if you do it separately, that's when it falls apart. Sometimes you're lucky and you find a compatible person early, sometimes you don't. That's all there is to it.

nyctre ,

Which apple product doesn't have a chaper alternative?

nyctre ,

Ah, okay then. Have a nice day :)

nyctre ,

Why not just use the new wrapper for the old blade? That way you don't need to keep the wrapper until you throw the blade away

nyctre ,

I agree, makes more sense to reverse the order

nyctre ,

Yes, that makes them swedish-speaking finns. Still finns tho
