That it's fucked up?
That comes the heart, cuz.
What do you mean support.

petrol_sniff_king ,

Does Saturn Devouring His Son inspire any feelings within you whatsoever.

petrol_sniff_king ,

What the fuck is this self-important bullshit.

Dude, if you want to kill her, fine, whatever, but we're putting your ass in prison.

petrol_sniff_king ,

Oh, you poor soul.

Here's the wikipedia, if you wanna read.

And here's a video about the history of slavery and its after-effects that is kind of relevant.

The tl;dr is that there were laws, like vagrancy (i.e. not having a job), that were vague and applied to "everybody" but realistically only applied to black people through legal jiu jitsu and selective blindness on the part of police. Sundown towns are known as such for that behavior. They were (are) very unwelcoming if you're not white.

petrol_sniff_king ,

If I'm punching up, you know, who I hit? Several women.

You're doing that thing where you accuse black people of being lazy because you were poor once but managed to work hard and find a good job.

In society, women are beneath men. Would you care to argue they're not?

who don't want to be put on the same level as rapists.

Why do you keep self-including into bizarre categories like this?

petrol_sniff_king ,

Oh! We're doing race.

Would you say it's okay for a black man in the 1860s to say that very white american towns make him kinda nervous? Or like, a town in Idaho today.

petrol_sniff_king ,

Are you being catcalled right now?

I didn't realize this discussion was happening outside of your house. Is there a garden I shouldn't be stepping on?

petrol_sniff_king ,

its a 45 minute walk to the nearest train station,

Yeah, this is a really, really, really big problem with designing society for cars. Tons of people live in suburbia, with no mixed zoning, where they're a 2 hour walk from their nearest church, a 4 hour walk if they want a coffee; and so like you say, driving becomes their only option. It's the only thing they can do, realistically. And if they ever lose their car somehow, uh, say hello to poverty. Good luck getting a job at that coffee shop 4 hours away.

In situations where someone who lives very far from a city is visiting someone else very far, cars probably still make some sense. In the OP picture example, though, that is a prime candidate for transit refactoring. The presence of cars there is actually hurting them.

petrol_sniff_king ,

Do you mean the activity about the question or the question itself?

I haven't engaged, so I don't know how mean people have really been getting, but that topic was more about, like, a verifiable sociological reality among women. I wouldn't take it personally.

petrol_sniff_king ,

I still like to, if I can, because I don't want old-breath hotboxing CO^2 brain damage. My mom calls this fresh air.

petrol_sniff_king ,

If their level of self-driving is so new and revolutionary, maybe it should be kept in the oven to bake a little longer.

petrol_sniff_king ,

If not, that would indicate that this newfangled self-driving is more dangerous than a little ol' "caught in the stone-age" Nissan Leaf, wouldn't it?

petrol_sniff_king ,

Now there's one I wish I could have read.
Jesus christ.

petrol_sniff_king ,

Ah, yeah. Now it makes sense, hahaha.

petrol_sniff_king ,

"Immutable" in a mathematical sense probably isn't true, yeah.

I imagine people forget that biology and evolution will do literally anything that doesn't not work. And the whole male/female thing isn't really a fundamental truth, it's just a really popular answer.

petrol_sniff_king ,

It implies a reward for work, which is a basic model all games use for basically everything you do.

How is it pay 2 win if you're not paying anything?

[edit] Okay, you said "or" xD Yeah, I'm sure Call of Duty would sell it to you.

petrol_sniff_king ,

And I suppose Roe v. Wade doesn't factor into your goals then either?

petrol_sniff_king ,

Well, they're already doing it.

Unless you're planning the coup tomorrow, I don't know how this is supposed to help me.

petrol_sniff_king ,

My favorite thing about conspiracy theories is the all-at-once victory these events are supposed to be.

Like, dissenting opinions are so heavily discouraged that everything gets turned into some 5D mental chess gambit. So you get things like:

They were trying to kidnap scientists without anyone knowing

Okay. Kind of elaborate for that, but why not.

And they made a lot of money.

O... kay. I guess. Does that mean the money was important to the scientist kidnappi—

And there was a lot of evidence on that plane they needed gone, too.

Wow, popping this plane really was a golden egg, wasn't it?

petrol_sniff_king ,

Do you mean in 9?

I remember 9's being kind of hard for some reason, but I don't remember it being worse.

petrol_sniff_king ,

They got angry because it forgot what the reminder was.

It asked for information A, then it asked for B repeatedly, and once that was finally settled (with an answer that is technically supportable but absolutely not what the user wanted) it then asked for A again.

If this were a real person, I would definitely be thinking "should I just ask someone else?"

Passkeys might really kill passwords (www.theverge.com)

Passkeys: how do they work? No, like, seriously. It’s clear that the industry is increasingly betting on passkeys as a replacement for passwords, a way to use the internet that is both more secure and more user-friendly. But for all that upside, it’s not always clear how we, the normal human users, are supposed to use...

petrol_sniff_king ,

Am I paying for Bitwarden?

I've legit been telling people that it's free. xD

petrol_sniff_king ,

. and .. are how terminals navigate around file systems.

The command cd . means "change directory (cd) to here (.)"

cd .. means "change directory to here, but one level up: my parent directory."

So following that model, winrar and maybe older versions of 7zip used folders called '.' as navigational tools within the archive browser. If you double-clicked through them, you'd see where they go.

I don't know how much of this you knew, but the point is it shouldn't freak you out too see them.

The White House wants to 'cryptographically verify' videos of Joe Biden so viewers don't mistake them for AI deepfakes (www.businessinsider.com)

The White House wants to 'cryptographically verify' videos of Joe Biden so viewers don't mistake them for AI deepfakes::Biden's AI advisor Ben Buchanan said a method of clearly verifying White House releases is "in the works."

petrol_sniff_king ,

Yeah, I don't really find it that funny.

I mean, I have no idea who made it. I think it's entirely possible they did this just as a bit of fun.

But it runs entirely too close to "ironic" 4chan "Hitler was good actually" posting.

There isn't really anything grounding it in the realm of parody, of insincerity, and so it's kind of indistinguishable from what someone who actually likes this abuse fantasy would do.

The point is, I had an argument about literally this very subject with someone 2 or 3 weeks ago, and this is extremely vindicating.

Not to say the game can't be fun. I believe people when they say they have a good time. It's not like you have to do this.

petrol_sniff_king ,

Well, sure.

It really depends on the kind of engagement the game is getting.

I don't expect most people have any real problems, this even is probably ironic, but it does raise an eyebrow.

petrol_sniff_king ,

If all of your time is spent correcting the answers you know you want it to give you, what use it to you exactly?

Like, I'll take your word for it: you can trick it into giving more correct answers.

You would only do this if you already know the correct answers.

I mean, you can use it for rubber-ducking, I suppose. I don't know if that's revolutionary, but I guess it's not useless.

petrol_sniff_king ,

Is that why it works, or is that just how they did it?

petrol_sniff_king ,

And yes, the reason they failed is because they were lazy, but if they weren't lazy they wouldn't have been just bland raceswaps.

You're confounding two variables, though, so this example is incapable of proving anything. Is this the result of half A and B? Just A? Just B? It's not possible to know.

Further, even if it was true, that audiences just can't handle black Ariel, I don't think that means there isn't a problem. If we're not allowed to race swap characters, then that means we can't really hire black actors. "We can just write new characters"? Yeah, we can do that. But you're basically saying that the last 80 years of shared, televised cultural history, even past all of the racial segregation of the 50s, the 60s, and on, is just inaccessible to the "other kinds." Like, is a black woman not allowed to write a Cinderella?

I don't think the complaints could've been that many,

Last thing: You should go looking for these people more often. Not so you can be like them, just to see them. I used to think that we lived in a post-racism world years and years ago. You don't really get a sense of how the public behaves until you survey them. It's good for you, though; know thy enemy.

petrol_sniff_king ,

You can if you squint your eyes. I don't think about how Peter Parker has shaken hands with his successor nearly as much as I think about Spiderman's new name being Miles Morales.

And also because I am perfectly comfortable with a black Spiderman. This resistance to thinking of them as the same person is just not felt in my brain.

This is a learned skill, by the way. Or unlearned, maybe. I.e., you should think about it.

I used to think I had a problem with Nintendo just deciding for some game that Link would be a girl now. Not a different canon, not a different timeline, not Zelda in disguise: just "Linkle." In the years I've had to think about this, I've realized I do not give two shits about it. I might even welcome the sensational 5-gum freshness of it.

petrol_sniff_king ,

Do we really need to keep rehashing the same stuff over and over?

Okay, but you realize this is a different argument. Remakes are being made, so it's weird to cut certain people out of it.

I have a laundry list of problems with the Disney live-action remakes, but the fact that Halle Bailey is in some doesn't count for one.

The fact that these remakes often completely misunderstand the story they're supposed to be telling counts for like 5.

You're Not Imagining It: Google Search Results Are Getting Worse, Study Finds (gizmodo.com)

For the past few years, a growing number of users, analysts, and experts raised alarms about a truth that feels obvious to a lot of people who surf around in web browsers: the quality of Google results is in serious decline. Google disagrees.

petrol_sniff_king ,

Subscription services still get worse. The arrogance Cable TV must have to show us ads—cable was the ad-free service back in its day. The same is happening with Netflix. The same will happen with Spotify. This thing is a snake eating it's own fucking tail.

I want something without perverse incentives. Donations, maybe. Taxes, possibly. I get free roads, why not a free search index.

petrol_sniff_king ,

Sure, they could still make a change that intentionally breaks compatibility, but why would they?

This is the kind of naivety that gets us deepthroated.

If they're "definitely not going to" then they don't need the power to, yes? They should agree to our terms.

No one who's here is going to leave just because the Threads users are gone.

I'm only here, specifically here, because communities I liked on Reddit pulled me. Granted, I like it here, but no platform is worth more than its content. If people get used to threads and threads leaves, people will leave with threads.
