The Forest Occupation Movement in Germany (crimethinc.com)

Lignite mining, express highways, gravel mining, parking decks, lime pits, and candy factories all have something in common that might not be obvious at first glance. Capitalists need to cut down forests to make way for them. But all around Germany, people are mobilizing to stop them. Over the past decade, forest occupations and...

I would agree somewhat and it would be really helpful if you could point out what has changed so others could also learn

Forming An Antifa Group: A Manual (itsgoingdown.org)

Anti-fascist groups, often called “antifa,” are popping up all around the United States, and a number of people have asked us for advice on forming a group. Because antifa work is different from other forms of radical organizing, and because the antifa groups themselves are changing, we have written down some of our...

Food Not Bombs (foodnotbombs.net)

Even though we provide meals and groceries to thousands of people, we are not a charity. Food Not Bombs is trying to inspire the public to participate in changing society and focus our resources on solving problems like hunger, homelessness and poverty while seeking an end to war and the destruction of the environment. We are...

punkisundead OP Mod ,

You are the second person I see in a few days that alludes to conspiracy theories when anti voting positions get mentioned in anarchist circles. Would a discussion between us about that even be worth it? We seem to have very different views about that.

Nice false flag op

And just wondering in general, is calling someones actions a false flag in line with the discussion culture slrpnk.net wants to see?

punkisundead Mod ,

Please check again, its not 10 minutes for everyone.

punkisundead Mod ,

If you can cast your vote via mail, then get those papers and let someone, who actually wants to but cant vote, vote. Easy win for everyone (kinda)

punkisundead Mod ,

Bad-faith actors

All of a sudden for no particular reason

You're messin up the narrative

Please stop with your conspiracy theories. Voting or not voting is a fiercly debates topic in anarchist circles and not even close to being settled. There is no need for outside interference to start argumemts about voting, anarchists are perfectly capable of this by themselves. Literally just check every anarchist forum, plattform or online community and you will find arguments around everytime there is a mayor election happening.

punkisundead Mod ,

I thought an alternative where we combine someone who doesnt want to participate, someone who wants to vote and some fraud would be appriciated

punkisundead Mod ,
punkisundead Mod ,

Like if I were in the US I most likely would be voting if I lived in a state where it matters. But I dont

Voting is a better use of part of your morning (or whatever) than almost anything else you could be doing on that one day, positive-change-wise.

I would like to add, that if voting stops someone from doing the things they need to do to survive like working or childcare, then they should prioritize those things. Providing those who cant vote without losing something with the ressources they need to vote is something I so rarely see in these discussions. Instead people assuming voting is an easy task for everyone :(

punkisundead Mod ,

Never really noticed any an-prim tendencies here. I also feel like many posters and people commenting participate im more than one of the anarchism communities, at least I do.

Plus, would love to see more anti-civ stuff here or in other communities, but I think i am pretty alone with that wish :D

punkisundead ,

I think for conversations like this its important to talk about what words like job, work and labor mean for each of us.

I would prefer not having a job. A job to me is a when sell my time to someone and perform tasks they give me. I dont like that.

I would prefer not having to work. To me working means performing at a job.

I want to do labor, but preferably in a way that benefits my community, the world and me. I want to do labor based on my abilitiy and I want it to be organized by me and my peers. I also want to witness the direct impact of doing my labor instead of abstract things like "company profits go up".

Other people use the words job, work an labor differently. That is okay, but it can lead to misunderstandings.

punkisundead ,

I feel like those things would be connected. The act of doing genuine helpful acts of labor feels very rewarding to me and many people I met felt the same. Especially when these acts enable me to show my "humanity" and/or my inner self.

punkisundead Mod ,

If you just stay home it indicates that you don't care and are not a threat to their reelection campaigns.

Sorry but its not that simple. Not voting is also often connected to disillusion with the current system or a lack of satisfactory choices. So it absolutely can indicate more than one thing.

punkisundead Mod ,

I domt really care if people vote or not, but its really funny how there is always so much discussion around the most liberal way to participate in politics.

Also to those that advocate for voting as one of the ways to influence the world, do you think people should also run for office or actively pursue people to vote for the harm reduction choice? Where do you draw your line and why?

And those that strongly oppose voting, do you think anarchists should burn ballot boxes or atleast more actively disrupt the electoral politics?

punkisundead Mod ,

It’s not a text, it’s a YouTube video… I don’t prefer videos as a source of information, they cannot be quoted, they cannot be scanned quickly. A video demands you to go all in.

If I can add something to that: YouTube that lets you see a (most times auto generated) transcript of the video. When you expand the video description you can click "Show transcript" for it to appear next to the video. This might atleast help somewaht with quoting

punkisundead Mod ,

When there is an election, in most democracies not voting is allowed and should be viewed as one of the decisions that democracy allows. Its not the anarchist choice, but just one of the many democratic choices.

And I dont agree on "Trump&Biden are the same". I can see why there might be similar outcomes (maybe in some situations the same) from them being in power, but I thb another Trump presidency is super scary and unpredictable on a level that Biden will never be.

I think voting and discussions about voting take way to much space in relation to the impact voting has.

punkisundead Mod ,

That is probably true. I think for people living in the so called US it would not be the same tho

punkisundead Mod ,

The guillotine has come to occupy our collective imagination. In a time when the rifts in our society are widening towards civil war, it represents uncompromising bloody revenge. It represents the idea that the violence of the state could be a good thing if only the right people were in charge.

The text is not against revolt, violent revolution or killing oppressors as self defense. Its just advising us to not think like the state.

punkisundead Mod ,

We do not advocate it seriously.

When we, in France, praise the guillotine,...

Who do you include in your "we"? I think it might be useful to be more precise here so.

Most people I personally met that made jokes/memes/references to guillotines, to putting people against a wall and shooting them or to gulags were some kind of communists and communists implemented / used the death penalty when they got into power many times (or even every time?).

Reading suggestions for deeper theory and praxis

Hey all, I started my dive into anarchism a little over a year ago and I've read a lot of the anarchy/socialism 101 type books but I'm starting to find a lot of it repetitive. I'm looking for suggestions to deepen my understanding of anarchism and libertarian socialism. Especially praxis and tactics, a lot of theory that I've...

punkisundead ,

Do you have access to special ressources / infrastructure, have specific skills or did you notice any problems in your neighborhood or daily life that you want to change? I feel like those can useful to pathways to learn specifics of organizing in relation to your individual situation and very often there are already some anarchist theory texts or report backs to be found.

Besides that, is reading your go to way of engaging with other peoples ideas?

punkisundead ,

Did you check out crimethinc? I really like them for approach that to me feels very different more classical texts i read (didnt read that many tho)

Also which book from list did you feel most connected with / engaged by?

punkisundead ,

I read both of kropotkins books (bread book 100% and mutual aid 40%) and I connect with his ideas / views on mutual aid :) I think he writes in a way that just make it seem so natural and reproducable.

punkisundead ,

You mentioned lots of topics that I feel like you could make an big impact. I am from different continent so I dont know if I am just assuming, but there might be already active people/groups/organizations and maybe the way you want to be active aligns with the way they do things. I think its possible to "do anarchism" with others that are not anarchist ot atleast dont use that label.

Other than that, I enjoy reading your comments, to me they are engaging and precise, so maybe that is a skill you can use somehow.

Can you wear big headphones? Also I can always pretend to be in a zoom meeting lol

    punkisundead OP Mod ,

I hope this does not come over as a gotcha or trick question, but why is being a landlord worse for you than owning share of a public corp like lets say Tesla or Apple?

    punkisundead OP Mod ,

Over the years I saw several instances where people wanted to buy property collectively and asked for private loans. This atleast stop market / capitalist control of some living spaces

    punkisundead OP Mod ,

Some related discussion over on anarchistnews.org:

    TOTW: Investment (Archived Version)

    punkisundead ,

, i dont want to be inhumane to anyone but where do we draw the line?

Imo we draw the line when someone who wants to be housed is threatened with being houseless and provide them with housing. Providing housing first is also the best way to deal with all the issues connected to being houseless like drug use, trauma from violence, mental health issues, etc

Imo the line has been crossed long ago and gets crossed every day and its important to keep in mind when trying to find solutions that are more like band aids on a broken system.

    punkisundead Mod ,

And every single stateless society created after a revolution has been crushed by state violence.

Since achieving a stateless society is my goal, I dont see why that strategy is a failure.

And while I dont claim them to be anarchist, Rojava and the Zapatistas are still resisting state violence.
