My 13 year old MB has 16GB.

It came with 8GB and at some point I spent $50 or so to add another 8GB.

You know, back when upgrading Macs was a thing.

ripcord ,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, my (sigh) "Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G 2023" has 8GB. And the 3.5 jack. And an actual fingerprint sensor. And I spent $160, although I bought it used.

I don't have one of the ARM ones, and after using Macs for like 20+ years, I barely use the ones I have. But that 16 hour battery life and performance is really nice.

Mac OS X used to wow me in the 2000s and even 2010s; it was definitely why I used Macs. But nothing about it is all that interesting to me anymore, and in some ways it's gotten worse.

@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

If you have a laptop that supports that, yeah. Which you should, but definitely isn't always true.

Used to be true on Macs...good ol' days

Pretty sad trolling effort

Sigh was because I was about to type out that stupid-ass name :)

I like the phone a lot.

No, the Biden admin is just doing a lot of good things like this. Or in this case, at least the current DoJ.

(Awaiting all the replies about what they're NOT doing, because nothing is ever allowed to be good here)

Ahhhhh, makes sense. Duh!

Ok, but that is virtually no real effort.

The Tesla owner was complaining that he (incorrectly) thought Rivian wasn't allowed to charge there, not because he was upset someone bought a Rivian at all.

Also, from the article - am I reading this right? The guy just assumed that the other dude actually called the cops? After he left? There's no evidence he did?

ripcord ,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

I think it's more like - you're looking to charge your phone at an airport. You're a Samsung user and you bought a contract to be able to use special Samsung-provided kiosks, which used to be an exclusive feature for you.

As you look for a charger, you see a dude with an iPhone sitting across 2 of the charge stations. (Maybe there's only a couple other stations free. Idk from the article). You don't realize that Samsung recently opened the chargers to iPhone users.

You're also irritated because it's been common for people to be assholes and doing things like leaving their phones plugged in and hanging out for hours. Way linger than they need. Or people sitting at the chargers who are just waiting for their planes and not charging at all. So youre sensitive to people you perceived as being assholes and making it harder for Samsung users to use the service they paid for.

Tesla dude was clearly overreacting, in the wrong, and being a douche. At least, based on this one-sided ragebait article.

But I was mostly replying to your Coke vs Pepsi article, where you were making it sound like the Tesla guy was mad at the other dude simply for buying a Rivian.

    Or maybe, more specifically, how the Reich wing was blaming it on "DEI"

    All I see is *******

    Fairbuds are Fairphone’s proof that we really could make better tiny gadgets (arstechnica.com)

    But of course we all know that the big manufacturers don't do this not because they can't but because they don't want to. Planned obsolescence is still very much the name of the game, despite all the bullshit they spout about sustainability.

    ripcord ,
    @ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

    So - takes up too much space, is the main reason :)

    I don't care, still worth it to me. As long as I have the option, any phone I buy (including the one I bought last year) will have a 3.5mm jack.

    ripcord ,
    @ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

    In my case, lots of people I know care about it. And I definitely do.

    But these are just anecdotes, and I haven't seen real data.

    I'm guessing the majority of people would prefer to have it, but don't care enough that it's a major factor for their phone. And the number that care at all continues to shrink. But we're both just guessing.

    I might be on board with this, especially how simple and reliable the USB-C analog audio system is supposed to be. And my ongoing problem with Bluetooth is just how amazed I am at how slow/unreliable it is to both pair and to reconnect on a slew of different (modern!) hardware.

    But it's funny. I have a tablet with 2 USB-C ports. I have USB-C to audio adapters that I've used with it for a while.

    Recent trip, I forgot the adapters. So I picked up a pack of adapters at the local Best Buy. Didn't work! Tablet behaved as if they simply weren't plugged in. Rebooted, tried stuff, then bought a different brand of them. Same problem! Got home, original ones I had worked fine.

    I don't care if it's the tablet's fault, or the adapters, or what. I've never, ever, ever had to worry about stuff like this with 3.5mm jack on any device. Ever. That's the reason it's worth it to me (plus not having to worry about charging, or various other complications with wireless. Like when enabling Bluetooth headphones on my last laptop crushed wifi performance. Or makes my good ol' Steam Link start to freak out with my 8bitdo, or...)

    Oh, good ol' Penny Arcade. Those were good days, with Penny Arcade TV, and PAX just starting up and whatnot.

    Before Mike decided he loved the "stylized" work of another cartoonist and made the characters ridiculously exaggerated. And before Jerry found the Jesus.

    It's still good, just not...what it used to be.

    I'm glad it's still going though!

    Yes, 99.9+% of the time stuff on Wikipedia is correct.

    This info, for example, is accurate.

    Are you claiming it isn't...?

    No, everyone is replying pretty reasonably to your stupid, stupid comment.

    As I understand it, expansion doesn't really affect local systems like galaxies directly/significantly. It's not really a factor for voyager returning or not.

    Amazon Ditches 'Just Walk Out' Checkouts at Its Grocery Stores (gizmodo.com)

    Amazon is phasing out its checkout-less grocery stores with “Just Walk Out” technology, first reported by The Information Tuesday. The company’s senior vice president of grocery stores says they’re moving away from Just Walk Out, which relied on cameras and sensors to track what people were leaving the store with.
