Some kids also get obsessive about phones once they get one, or obsessed with other people's phones until then.

tamal3 ,

Yes, but it's also new territory for us as a species. I'm sure the guidance and monitors will be significantly improved in the next decade, but a decade ago... It was the wild west, baby.

tamal3 ,

Eh the kids are alright

Doing meth, or working? That's the US these days.

tamal3 ,

Nah I'd just change the channel

However, this comic is largely talking about how stereotypes harm individuals...

I don't know anything about it, but apparently alpha wolves are not actually a thing. Can someone chime in more info?

A casualty while trying to survive the open road, killed by animals. My soul has left my shell.

I'm not a doctor, but some combination of deadlifts and running have saved my lower back. I notice a huge difference in my back pain if I don't workout for a while -- these last few weeks of snow mean I'm not running as much, and the pain of NOT moving sufficiently is different and worse than the soreness from weightlifting! It's surprisingly noticable.

tamal3 ,

That is lucky... But do you wake up with all sorts of weird sorenesses?

tamal3 ,

Has anyone tried this? https://odditymall.com/arm-slot-mattress-designed-for-side-sleepers Looks like the skot would rub your armpit to shreds, but I like the idea.

I hear that, and fun music is how I enjoy it. I listen to a lot of reggaeton and cumbia. Knowing that I'm getting stronger, and improving my future living standard, are also plenty motivating. Like I said, back pain and then no back pain? I'll do it.

It also scared the shit out of me to realize that some people my age couldn't do an air squat... I don't want to get old like that!

But, movement and strengthening in general is where it's at. This works for me, but whatever keeps you interested. I don't mean to make this an ad for my exercise routine!

tamal3 ,

That's probably an accurate analysis. It's hard to believe that with all the time we spend sleeping we haven't figured out a way to do it comfortably.

Maybe suspend me in a vat of liquid?

I do not use self-checkout for several reasons, including what other people have said: i don't get a discount, it's taking someone else's job, it's annoying as fuck. Further, I use my own canvas bags, and that machine yells about the weight mismatch no matter what I try. I'd rather listen to nails on a chalkboard.

But i also shop for groceries 1 time per week, which means I'm buying beer, which means the self-checkout STILL requires somebody to help me. I end up standing around for longer than it takes to go through the regular line.

Anyway, the self-checkout lines generally see very loud usage in my NC town.

It's organized so that more powerful operations get precedence, which seems natural.

Set aside intentionally confusing expressions. The basic idea of the Order of Operations holds water even without ever formally learning the rules.

If an addition result comes first and gets exponentiated, the changes from the addition are exaggerated. It makes addition more powerful than it should be. The big stuff should happen first, then the more granular operations. Of course, there are specific cases where we need to reorder, or add clarity, which is why human decisions about groupings are at the top.
