One of them should say "that's a no from me, dawg"

technomad ,

So that you can wash your wrists/arms?

Lol

technomad ,

But was he always an asshole??

technomad ,

They could've given him one of those automatic brooms too.

technomad ,

But you know that they didn't pay him enough too.

Just ain't right...

technomad ,

Searching for an address in Organic Maps, however, has been pretty hit or miss for me.

Anyone else been running into this?

Edit: literally the next comment I saw is talking about this XD

technomad ,

Could we ask what it is that you do? (you don't have to share if you'd prefer not to)

technomad ,

quite the changeup, what made you decide on video production?

technomad ,

Back up a little. I thought that their new choice in profession was genuinely interesting and wanted to hear them talk more about it. Obviously they chose a different route because trucking wasn't making them happy.

Don't be so presumptive in saying that I should just infer things rather than asking questions. This is supposed to be a place for meaningful discussions.

technomad ,

Thank you for being respectful, and I appreciate you saying that. Consider it nothing.

technomad ,

Thank you for this. You just made my day XD

Note-taking app that looks too good to be true? - Siyuan

Recently stumbled upon this note-taking app called SiYuan, but it honestly looks a bit too good to be true(?). Has anyone here used it or got any experience with it? Trying to replace Obsidian is a difficult task, and I've been through almost all note-taking apps there are out there, however this one looks fairly similar....

technomad ,

What is your master thesis on, if you don't mind me asking?

technomad ,

That is really cool, and super interesting! Thanks for sharing!

technomad ,

Wow, that's almost as fast as my phone's hotspot!!

technomad ,

and having the rest of the day for myself

XD

technomad ,

Ok, it's a nice thought.

I'm trying not to be too negative here, but have you seen the innumerable graphs/charts that show the productivity increase vs. wage stagnation, etc.? Hard not to see how this would be abused immediately for corporate -profit$- instead of benefiting the workers.

technomad ,

I love the ideas that you have for this space.

I wonder if there should be any concern over the wording for the ideas. Particularly 'hacker space' and 'mushroom lab'. I think some people might see those words and immediately assume the worst. It may not be an issue, but just something to consider.

'mycology research' and 'makerspace' might be some good alternatives

technomad ,

No problem :)

technomad ,

Hey, I was thinking about your project the other day and wondering if you will have any kind of dedicated space for recycling/donations? I would like to start taking more/better initiatives towards taking care of my own stuff, and if there was somewhere to send it.... (I know there are places I could probably look up and send things to, but your project came to mind first).

I sometimes find myself in possession things that are almost too valuable to donate, but not really valuable enough to warrant trying to sell. If there was a valuable cause to support, I'd feel good about giving them to that cause. I think maybe a lot of other people would have good things to give as well.

It's mostly electronics.

technomad ,

Awesome, and no worries. I just wondered if it had been something that was thought of already or not. I hope it does materialize, even if it's not soon, even if it's years from now really. I enjoy seeing your progress 😁

I'm having a hard time imagining how the terminology 'anti-racist skinheads' makes sense. Isn't that some kind of oxymoron?

Skinhead, by it's definition is a slang term for white supremacy right? White supremacy is racist, therefore skinheads=racist, right?

Am I missing something?

technomad ,

Thanks for the explanation.

It's a shame that is what ended up sticking then, and that the terminology couldn't have been associated with something better. In my mind, it's impossible to think of them in any other context. That is the default definition that I have.

technomad ,

What I do for work is very niche, so imagining exactly how it will be affected is kind of difficult. There is design work above me, which very well could be affected. I kind of get the impression that the advancements of AI will possibly lock out any kind of lateral moves that I might be able to make...

Automation would be a bigger concern for what I currently do, but the robots still have a ways to go (I hope).

Toyota cars collecting and potentially sharing location data and personal information, Choice says, and it's not the only car brand facing privacy concerns (www.abc.net.au)

Rafi Alam from CHOICE told The World Today: "When we looked at Toyota's privacy policy, we found that these Connected Services features will collect data such as fuel levels, odometer readings, vehicle location and driving data, as well as personal information like phone numbers and email addresses."...

technomad ,

There needs to be a guide that lists which year models (how far back do you need to go) don't have privacy violating tracking built in.

Is it possible to have an on-screen keyboard that provides word suggestions without compromising privacy? (kbin.social)

I've been playing with both the Thumb and the Unexpected keyboards. I like 'em both but, man, I have to admit I'd like them more if they had that top bar that predicts what you might be. Is that just a no-go from a privacy perspective? Can that functionality be local?...

technomad ,

What are NPU's?

technomad ,

Interesting concept, thanks for explaining

technomad ,

I've been using a version of openboard with sayboard implemented. It doesn't work perfectly, there's a good amount of frustration that comes with it, but it works good enough for what I need it to do and I'll gladly take the trade-off for being less dependent on google.

Hopefully, it continues to get better or a more exact/perfected alternative comes along.
