Because nobody in any public transit board has ever implemented such a thing?

In North Carolina, park and ride busses for the state fair have long been a thing, among a litany of several other examples.

wolfpack86 ,

Frankly it doesn't matter. Japan has several private companies operating rail services. Tokyo has several subway systems.

We need more appropriately priced, accessible mass transit. I don't care if it's public or private.

That photo panel is the bottle rotated 90 degrees.

Actually think this is more about protecting against unscrupulous scalpers selling tickets multiple times.

When you can just email a pdf or print it, nothing stops you from doing it multiple times.

At the end, it's ticketbastard that has to listen to the people that got scammed. This method forces authentication and secure the chain of custody.

Also who would believe they got an all leather glove for $20

wolfpack86 ,

But pedal accelerating an ebike is not quite as easy as a regular bike. They're over 20kg due to steel frames and batteries.

The CEO was selling physical locations to his own privately held firm and leasing them back to Sears, increasing their operating costs significantly... And him walking away richer.

And they missed the whole online shopping "fad". They were the king of print catalogue sales and distribution for a century. All they needed to do was digitize it in an intelligent way. And they didn't.

Were you a lawyer in the Bush administration?

What can you get to within a 15-minute walk of your house?

A recent YouGov survey asked Americans what they think they should be able to get to within a 15-minute walk of their house.

Of these choices, I can currently walk to all of them from my apartment, aside from a university (no biggie, I'm not currently studying, although there is a Tafe within walking distance), a hospital, and a sports arena.

How many can you get to with a 15 minute walk from your house?

@fuck_cars

wolfpack86 ,

I have all of this in a 15 minute walk of my apartment. The key thing, if people would like all of this very close by is they will need many fold more apartment buildings.

That's the thing people aren't willing to accept in the US.

Also who tf really needs the post office that close by, these days? Makes me think this was an older crowd that was polled.

Any number of businesses could enroll as a pickup point for packages in a walkable city. They don't need to be sending points, only pickup.

This model works pretty well where I live.

wolfpack86 ,

The area i live generally maxes out at 5 stories. You don't need towers, but duplexes aren't going to be enough to get the density needed to have the full listing of services in a walking distance.

wolfpack86 ,

What's the cool zip utility?

wolfpack86 ,

I was wondering where this left WinRAR. I never felt like WinZip was ever cool.

Passkeys might really kill passwords (www.theverge.com)

Passkeys: how do they work? No, like, seriously. It’s clear that the industry is increasingly betting on passkeys as a replacement for passwords, a way to use the internet that is both more secure and more user-friendly. But for all that upside, it’s not always clear how we, the normal human users, are supposed to use...

wolfpack86 ,

But we need one that isn't using our logins to track where/what we are doing.

wolfpack86 ,

Yeah it's a shitty parsing of it, because my mind went there too.

But if the restaurant was using 1 entire cow to make 1 single 1/2lb burger, that's on the restaurant to do better.

There's a lot of that happening that corporations need to focus on.
